Thank you for this video creation.
is there a way to just leave the bulky part above the instrumental gauges and such out but still have a nice looking dash, or is there an aftermarket dash for a 1993 chevy c3500?
Thank you for the good video I gained some confidence after watching this and just completed the swap out in around 10 hours with cleaning on the weekend on my 1992 Silverado

I just did this job this morning. To save time, you don't need to remove the steering wheel or the right AC vent. I had the dash out and the heater box removed and disassembled in 2 1/4 hrs. The hardest part of the job is getting the screws out of the back of the dash that hold the wiring harness and the screws that hold the inner molded duct work that blocks the wiring harness. Hey how did you take out th (P)brake plastic and cable off the dashboard? we took out a dash but we cut the cable for the realese of the break to be able to take the dashboar but now we are going to put it on our 1992 chevy pickup 1500 but we don't want to cut it since this is our truck...the other truck was parting out so it wasn't a problem to cut that cable.
I wanted to see exactly how you took the glove box door off. I know this was not your point, but it would have been nice to see that part because i'm told you have to take a vent out to properly remove or install it without breaking the pins. You called a vent a switch and never made any comments on the removal process
Is the #2 dash trim panel the correct name for it? I'm asking cuz I need to get mine replaced cuz the bolt holes are all stripped so it won't hold the benzle in place.
93 1500 forgot to remove neg battery before removeing a lot of the dash .I got to the instrument cluster an pulled it out a little an at the bottom it has like a little slinky type cord thatgot pulled on.im wondering if i set off a kill switch or something an the truck wont start when im thru.as well im wondering in my truck the factory radio thats over the cooling controls seems like its soldered in once you remove the cover icant get the dash hood off. i dont want to cut the wires an resolder
disconnect the battery. remove your steering wheel. this is crucial for a smooth experience but does not require it to actually be removed. be warned. the job will be insanely more difficult if you do not remove the steering wheel. remove your instrument cluster. remove the top 5 screws (1 behind the left speaker, 1 behind the right speaker - 3 above/in the window defroster vent) / remove the two bolts under the dash located at each corner of the cab. one on the driver side and one of the passenger side. these are somewhat hidden but are right on the edge of the dash. remove your hood latch release and any other accessories located next to it. remove the single screw holding the bracket down that is housing/holding the radio thing. this is located next to the floor vent on the left side. i don't know what its called. all i know is the radio connects to it. you will also need to remove this radio junction box thing. now, push the tabs on the fuse box and push it back. do the same for the instrument cluster connector. dont forget to pop the parking brake lever cable off. the dash should now slide/TILT forward. don't let it tilt all the way. let it tilt forward and now unbolt and release all the wires. your dash is now free. it's a lot easier than it seems and takes about an hour.
I started it. Because of a wiring problem. Then asked a shop to check it out. I'm looking for a complete wiring harness just to be safe.. The damage isn't known just yet. In this group does anyone know where to get a complete replacement (Aka OEM) wiring harness and instructional videos? Thanks
He leaves out one important part ! when you take out the dash cluster there is a plug behind it , getting that plug out is nearly impossible & getting it back in can be even harder , but If your just looking for the way to take out the heater A/C box to replace the cores & blower motor all you need to do is unbolt the side dash mount bolts and the top of dash bolts and unplug some of the wires by the glove box and pull the dash out and down then hang the right side of the dash up by the sun visor mount to get the dash out of the way then work on the box to remove the box , just watch the wires . take pictures as you go so u can back track if you need help to reassemble it , It's not that hard just remember to take your time and remember what you've done !
steven anderson I need to replace the A/C evaporator and I suppose might as well the heater.. So are you saying it is possible to remove the a/c evaporator without removing the whole dash which also involves the steering wheel? Just need to remove/replace the A/C can it be done simply?????? buffalodiesel@gmail.com
is gettig to the heater core on a 94 different than on a 96? when I did my the one in my 96, I was able to get to it by unbolting the cover underneath near the floor. no need to even touch the dash. i thought it was wasn't neccessary to remove dash until 99. i'm pretty sure my 94 is same way, but I really havent looked at it since I've only had it couple months and it warm out.
I have an issue of cold air coming into the cab from the right side. The truck was in a front end collision before I bought it and I found gaps in the heater box, which I bonded closed. However, cold air seems to come in at highway speed above the heater box in the right side. Is there a seal in the cold air inlet that may have been displaced? Is the cold air inlet beneath the cowl on the right side? This is a real problem in northern minnesota when it gets below zero. The heater can't keep up. Thanks for the help.
Craig Bruce Did you ever figure it out? I have a van that was also wrecked in the side with that same issue. Winters are brutal, and the floor freezes basically at highway speeds.
Hey i installed a new battery and now my radio/deck now longer has power!?! Its set up in the space in the middle below the vents like yours. I checked for blown fuses but found none. Any ideas? thank you.
Does anyone know if all the dashes from different years of these trucks are compadible and fit each other ven tho they could be a year older or younger will they fit?
Your video is very helpful. I wanted to know if the dash from a 1996 Chevy Tahoe would fit inside of a 1996 Chevy Silverado. I also wanted to know if the wiring would match-up and if the dash would bolt up the same without any additional fabrications. Any help from you would be GREATLY appreciated and THANK YOU in advance!
Erik Tobler I have some experience with this and yes, it should match almost perfectly. Only thing I can think of that may be different is a rear window defrost button, but thats only on your dash bezel. You can keep your current one or live with the switch thats not plugged into anything, no big deal. Suburbans, tahoes, and silverados are almost exactly the same in this generation of trucks.
Man you are a tremendous help. I just notice a bad typo. My vehicle is a 1992 Chevy C1500. I found a 1996 Chevy Tahoe at my local salvage yard. I want to remove and use the dash, passenger femder, passenger front door, front bucket seats and middle console. Do you have any videos showing if these items are interchangeable with my 1992 chevy tahoe? Any help that you may provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Erik Tobler In that case, it probably won't match up. Chevy did their design changes in 95 which made the whole instrument panel different. Radio, gauges, etc are different. As for the fender, yes. Doors are identical as well, only issue you might run into are the door panels and everything behind like the power windows and locks. Not sure about all that, I have a 97 myself. As for the seats, I don't think you can change them out seamlessly after the refresh in 95. I believe that chevy had a split bench up front until 95, so a center console is out of the question. Your 96 has the drivers airbag right? none of these older ones had it so thats a big problem right there.
Erik Tobler Try junkyards, not sure where you live but here up north the rust gets to all the trucks so cosmetically, most are ok in the junkyards for parts like that. Besides that, you can try craigslist, maybe someones parting a truck out on there and selling the parts. i have a high quality dash mat on mine so any imperfections are hidden. You might try that if all else fails.
This video didn't address alot of things. What do you do about the big harness that goes to the cluster, how do you get the bracket off from under the deck with the main harness runs through, all the little plugs and connecters under the driver's side, how the hell do you get the glove box light socket out
Old post I know, but, can anyone tell me where the Tan with White Stripe wire connects to the box at the driver's side firewall (inside cabin). I accidentally disconnected it (long story) and can't find where to connect it. It is a VERY important wire. I have already tried searching for hours online. Can't find exactly what info I need (as usual). Anyone who knows WHERE the Tan with White Stripe wire connects at the drivers side firewall box (inside cabin), please tell me. Thanks a bunch.
i have a 1993 GMC sierra 1500 v6 , manual 5 speed ... and the dash is all broken and some of the pieces are missing ... where can i find another one to replace it ??? i've been looking for it but cannot find it anywhere .... is a navy blue color btw ... do u know any website where i can find it ? my dash looks just like that one on the video , just different color .... please help me out
Does anyone know where to find a complete dashboard for a 92 GMC ? My dashboard is falling to pieces , its just about to fall completely off. Im located in Dallas , TX
What they didnt show is that you have to unbolt the heater it runs through the firewall and connects to the dash otherwise its not coming out. Also their are two bolts behind gauge panel the are actually behind thr dash itself they must be removed as well
I have too much slack on shifter wire Indicator after connecting it back to the instrument cluster to the steering column and I know it wraps around the side of it so that when you shift down it pulls it over but I have an inch or 2 when everything is in correct possition
Great video but for anyone about to attempt this just know that he doesn't show how to disconnect any wiring and behind the cluster is a big pain but very doable goodluck 👍
@@codyj101cj ok thank you will try find screws someone else posted clip in front on bottom are the screw in front or back mines slide left and right about 1/2 a inch could not fiugre out how it would come out of the rail thingy it was in
1988 dash frame and wiring is totally diferant. The internal skellatin is the same but that's about it. I would make a custom fiberglass dash if I was you.
I want to add to my previous comments about this video. At the 9:10 mark when he miraculously just lifts the dash out. That's bs. He hadn't disconnected the dome light wires on the sides of the dash, and the the speedo cluster plug that was sticking through just disappears. It is connected to the wiring harness that has two bolts holding them to the dash, and then the harness is up inbetween the blower vents. You almost have to at the least get behind the vent and take out the screws from behind to be able to pull that wiring harness out of there. He already had that dash out before he took it out again for the video. They put the wiring harness on the dash at the factory before they put the dash in and then connected all of the wires. All of these videos and comments are bs.
Rolando Irene Won't work at all, mounting points are different, plus you have the airbags, steering column, and instrument cluster which are all different.
Thanks so much for the help man, 12 years later and this video is still helping people out

So true, thank you for your input! much appreciated!😎
steven anderson I need to replace the A/C evaporator and I suppose might as well the heater.. So are you saying it is possible to remove the a/c evaporator without removing the whole dash which also involves the steering wheel? Just need to remove/replace the A/C can it be done simply?????? buffalodiesel@gmail.com
is gettig to the heater core on a 94 different than on a 96? when I did my the one in my 96, I was able to get to it by unbolting the cover underneath near the floor. no need to even touch the dash. i thought it was wasn't neccessary to remove dash until 99. i'm pretty sure my 94 is same way, but I really havent looked at it since I've only had it couple months and it warm out.
found a mint dash in a 94 burban im going to replace my beat up cracked dash in my 91 c1500 using your video .
Thanks for the video got it out know how do i get it back in it is driving me to the bottle

What truck are you removing the dash from??? I have a S10 and that is what I put in the search box.
The dash is from a full size chev truck (1500, 2500).
Hi. could you replace the dash with a new type from 95 + or 92 - 95 suburban?
I did this once in my 94 obs... lots of work!
Salvaged perfect dashboard took me 37 min . No cutting of any harness or damage to other good equipment
🙄
@ScottysDetailing....The dash and door panels was changed in 95, but yes most of the other trim was unchanged.
Nice job now when in the Houston area come and remove mine and put on the new one your the best just let me know when your here. 💯👍🏼😊
My dash is in pieces, I'm looking for a replacement. Could you point me in the right direction?
It does have the airbag in the 1996 model. Do you know where I might get a complete dash for my 1992? My old one is cracked up quite a bit.
I have a 94 and a 95. Can these dashes be interchanged? I want to put the 95 into the 94. No air bags involved in either truck.
This video didn't address alot of things. What do you do about the big harness that goes to the cluster, how do you get the bracket off from under the deck with the main harness runs through, all the little plugs and connecters under the driver's side, how the hell do you get the glove box light socket out
i got a 91 chevy project im working on , do you know if i can swap out the dash for 98 or 99 dashboard?
Yes! If your not afraid of some wiring.
1990 Chevrolet K1500 5.7L Auto is mine.
hey ***** would it be possible to fit a newer 95+ dash on my 93? i can figure out the wiring but will the mounts fit the same?
yes
Nice video, thanks! I let the wiring harness be mountet to the dash and liftet the dash out with the harness.
Will the wiring harness from a 91 hook up to a 97 dash.
same thing happened to my 93 i just ran new speaker wires and it works fine now.
i have a 1993 GMC sierra 1500 v6 , manual 5 speed ... and the dash is all broken and some of the pieces are missing ... where can i find another one to replace it ??? i've been looking for it but cannot find it anywhere .... is a navy blue color btw ... do u know any website where i can find it ? my dash looks just like that one on the video , just different color .... please help me out
Does anyone know where to find a complete dashboard for a 92 GMC ? My dashboard is falling to pieces , its just about to fall completely off. Im located in Dallas , TX
Hi, do you know where to buy a dashboard of my chevy C1500 year 94?
oh end yea u should put a video on how to put it back :) , thanks alot for making this video i learned alot.
Will this dash swap to a 97 sierra?
Where can I get a full replacement dash?
What they didnt show is that you have to unbolt the heater it runs through the firewall and connects to the dash otherwise its not coming out. Also their are two bolts behind gauge panel the are actually behind thr dash itself they must be removed as well
LMC Truck doesn't sell this years style dash does it?
Thank you for video. New dashboard still available in the market assmply.
where can i get a complete dashbored on my 1994 chevy silverado Z71
Would the same unscrewing apply to a 1993 Chevy Caprice?
hola tengo una silverado 93 y quiero cambiarle todo el tablero por el que trae la 98 se podra cambiar sin tantas complicaciones?
Anyone one know a good site to buy a new dash for that same year and model?
Can you make a vid removing the stuff under dash because I east to do a full restoration on my 93 1500
Do you have to remove the steering wheel
how do you remove the fuse box from the dash on a 1998 GMC topkick. The dash looks like the same as the dash in this video. thanks
There is a tap at the bottom of the fuse box in the front just left it up.
I have too much slack on shifter wire Indicator after connecting it back to the instrument cluster to the steering column and I know it wraps around the side of it so that when you shift down it pulls it over but I have an inch or 2 when everything is in correct possition
+1youngprod try attaching the rectangle metal piece farther on the steering column that way there is no slack at all
Great video but for anyone about to attempt this just know that he doesn't show how to disconnect any wiring and behind the cluster is a big pain but very doable goodluck 👍
How to disconnect the fuse box from dash
@@josephbowen5359 thats easy its just screwed on
@@codyj101cj ok thank you will try find screws someone else posted clip in front on bottom are the screw in front or back mines slide left and right about 1/2 a inch could not fiugre out how it would come out of the rail thingy it was in
@@josephbowen5359 after double checking its clipped on on all four sides I got it out with flat screwdriver
I have a 1988 chevy k2500 pickup, will a 1998 Suburban dash and door panels fit ?
Do u know if I take all of the dash of a 92 Chevy nd instal like a 95-97 dash would it fit perfect or do I have to do some modification
Rolando Irene Won't work at all, mounting points are different, plus you have the airbags, steering column, and instrument cluster which are all different.
***Classified*** it's been done but its not a straightfoward swap
Oshawott I don't know why anyone would want to do it quite personally. That style of dash hasn't aged as well as the more modern 95-98 style.
Is that Rachmaninoff piano concerto I hear? Nice!
any idea where I can get a new dash? seems to be a hard find
I have one on a donor truck we just purchased. Where do you live I could ship it to you.
+ScottysDetailing still have that? If it fits a 1990 c1500 lol
