  • We do a bit of cleanup on this frame with a new tool. The needle scaler! I highly suggest picking one up if you are doing rust removal.

at harbor freight look by the grinding wheels. I grabbed a couple of the silicone carbide black wheels for the grinder and now I will always reach for those when I’m removing rust and mil scale. It’s very impressive

I saw another video where a guy took a harbor freight impact hammer gun and put a heavy-duty rubber band on the chisel attachment and the other end on the back handle and what it did was turned the tool into a mini jack hammer. worked way better than the scaller

The great thing about the needle scaler is that it gets into very small areas, like around bolt heads and into corners and will remove old paint too. Some guys like to use the air chisel, which works fine for heavy rust, but try to use one on your gas tank straps, or your crusty brake backing plates, which I did with the scaler.

Do ya know of any kit to fix that or any advice? Just first time i had to deal with this. Or is replacement frame ideal?

Whats sad is, a little extra effort by these vehicle manufacturers and they can prime and paint these frames right at the factory before anything is on them and save us a ton of bull shit down the road.
I am quite pissed at the moment. I got a 2019 colorado which I just rinsed off at the car wash, its white in colour and showing rust bleeding through the paint in pin hole size. You might be thinking oh it can't be that bad, there is like 100s of little rust spots all over the doors, box sides and tail gate. These aren't from rock hits either.. Its rust bleeding through a shitty paint job on a new truck..
    A 40,000 dollar lemon..
I did a little test, they don't just rub off but you can scotch pad them off. I did one little spot but it totally fucks the clear up.. Trucks going to be a fucking rust bucket in 2 years..
Any other colour other than white and you probably wouldn't even notice it.

I make my own mixture of cooking oil motor oil some used automatic transmission fluid and some phosphoric acid and thinned mineral spirits or diesel and spray using a garden sprayer and or cheap paint spray gun annually hot summers day are best for . I make sure to get oil into all boxed in areas and inside the frame doors tail gate cross members box all lines making sure to stay away to exhaust and manifolds and catalytic converter and wear goggles and oil mist approved fitted respirator

I found the nicest almost affordable anti rust coating system. I used to use another system but since DUPLICOLOR a company that was known for some really shit products came out with their rubberized frame paint it's works right over that rust converter. I do recommend doing exactly what this guy does by defurring the fuzz and fur scale on the frame hit the frame with rust converters on a paint brush and then use that DUPLICOLOR stuff. I went 2 winters with it now since it's been out since 2016 I got ahold of the stuff Summer 2017 and it stuck on real well. I did use a EURO clear coat over it and touched up a few chronic spots. Chevy has lost their reputation for quality manufacturing. Durable undercoating should have been applied at the factory when the truck was made. Several other companies had the same problem but quickly responded to customer complaints and now thoroughly undercoated their new vehicles at the factory.
