Quality video. Being a former t track day driver, I was already aware of almost all your tips. Shifter position was a new one to me though... I've never really thought of it. I do know that at 6 ft. tall ... seating position with the stock seats and a helmet on is absolutely terrible. This is a quality video that really should be shown during the classroom sections of lapping day or time attack schools!
Great video! Got an NB (just for street) - problems I had was trying to keep the seat distance good so the seat wouldn't compress but it felt somewhat cramp down there. Also tried to have that rule of wrists right over the wheel and managed alright position but seat feeling just a tad too vertical. Wish the wheel had adjustments haha! Good detail you went over and awesome 86!
Thanks for watching. It is usually the steering wheel position that’s the hardest to get perfect. But it’s worth it to extend and lower if needed to get the positioning correct.
I don't track, but I've been thinking about these things a lot with my 88' Supra (comfy stock bucket seats, and telescoping steering wheels, but the wheel is pretty huge) and my 01' Celica GT-S (I'm only 6 feet tall, but it has a moonroof so the ceiling is so low that I have to adjust the seat back pretty much to make it work. Probably would be much improved with a racing seat) I thought having the steering wheel closer was weird, but I never thought about the angle like that. I'm going to go back and do the wrist test in both of them and see what difference I can make in adjusting. I tend to drive a lot more "actively" than most people I think, very alert and fairly aggressive. At least the seats in the 88' Supra are hands down some of the best ever made.
@@johnrussakoff Yeah, they have ruined me on pretty much all new cars. BTW, since you have experience. Are racing seats, Sparco particularly more narrow that stock? I've been really wanting to put them in my Celica, but I'm afraid of the actual bottom of the seat being way too slim. Not a light guy, but the stock seats are just OK. I would figure deep bucket seats might be too small for me, not sure.
They have different sizes for different waist size drivers. My evo s is good to about a 34 inch waist, the regular evo is a couple sizes larger, and the L is probably safe to 40-42
@@johnrussakoff Ahh okay, I didn't know if they took waist sizes into account. The Celica isn't too big, but yeah something around 40 would be nice. Anyhow you earned a new sub. Can't wait to see more of your vids!
Would love to see what the steering column spacer would look like. I have a tilt column and want to extend my wheel further than it currently is, making it higher than i want as well. Or could we simply add washers... I think there is still enough thread?
a subject we never talk about and is always overlooked! good info!
DANG! Thanks for commenting ❤️
seating position is often overlooked. great video John!
I’ve seen in car video of driving mistakes that would have easily been prevented by proper positioning. It’s so important.
I had to watch twice because the first time I was just drooling over the intact dashboard in your 86 XD
😂😂😂
Really good vid on setup. Well done

Thanks for watching 👍🏻
i had my doubts when i saw the car, but i found it very informative, ill try it next time i step into my car
Thanks for watching
At looks amazing. I'm not a deep dish/widebody guy, but whatever it is (86? Corolla?) is styling inside and out.
Great video! Quality info, I wasn't aware of half the tips you explained. Thanks for that! That JSP shifter is badass with all the adjustability.
Thanks for watching 👍🏻

Preach it brotha!
im 5'3 short king builiding a 350z drift car your video help me alot on how to position myself cuz im feeling kinda uncomfortable with my setup
Nice, 350z is harder for shorter guys because of the high window height. Makes visibility tough. Were you able to lift the seat up?

Supra seats are really good for sure

Thanks so much, I appreciate it
that beautiful hair just breezing in the wind
Correction, my beautiful hair actually makes the wind breeze.
Is that burned titanium I see!!😮

I’ll post about the spacer when I make it. It will depend on how much spacing I decide.
what kind the slider you have?
This is a nagisa seat rail. I like them because they are super low and double locking.
What shifter is that?
JSP beams reverse lockout shifter for j160 transmission
Thanks!
