Ironically, to make Mikarta the "clean" way, it helps to have a dirty floor so it chips off easier when you spill it, lol. Thanks for the video. I like the molds.
if you really want, you could just add some layers of newspaper, a silicone mat, put it in a bucket, shove the whole thing in a plastic bag, etc., to control the spillage onto either something easy to clean or dispose.

Hi! Is simple polyester resin, the one used for fiber glass, you can find it in any diy shop, is the cheap one available, you can buy it also on amazon
Just watched the last video and think you still could use better gloves, something like latex or nitrile. I've also fiddled with micarta like this and my main issue is that the fabric or yarn in my case gets dark and dull when wet.
Gabrulo it looks like your scraps fabric changed color. The white appeared to turn clear. I did construction paper and it all looked just wet. I'm also using clear resin
I used simple fabric, you can use all the kind of fabric you want! You can mix different fabric in different colors and obtain always something cool! You can find the resin in every diy store, is the one for the fiber glass
I believe this video was intended to be much more inclusive, but I’m guessing the rest of the footage was deleted after he discovered the rag piece was full of air voids, impossible to fix, and he didn’t want us viewers to know it. You can’t just drop big handfuls of little cloth scraps into the epoxy. As the many pieces become submerged, they take lots of air pockets with them. Each and every piece of fabric must enter the epoxy in such a manner that assures no air follows, just like the second batch he did.
There is a video after this where i use that piece of micarta for a karambit, there were some small voids but nothing so bad to be unusable. If you want to check it is just after this video
Hope my tutorial can help you out! I suggest you to watch a lot of tutorials and take something from everyone, i did like this to obtain a process good for me
@@Gabrulo_knifemaking thanks again. I'm definitely gonna keep watching some more videos on how to make micarta and knives. There's a lot to learn for sure.

@@Gabrulo_knifemaking your etsy...$175 for your "bowie" which by the way doesn't look anything like a bowie knife. Thats a pretty high price for something that isnt demascus or even hand polished. So, good luck selling those. The knifes for €28, thats affordable and a more realistic price.
Now that's a great way of not wasting epoxy leaving a clean job , thank you 👍
I once fixed a plastic boat using a old pair of pants and epoxy. Not pretty, but it held up for years.
That jello looks delicious
Супер, молодец. Все казалось бы очень просто, но очень технологично

I was wondering what you going to do with the extra trsin from your first squeeze out. Brilliant use of material. 👍😎
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya
Very interesting video to watch, now I have to google what Micarta is!
Микарта это текстолит. Хлопчатобумажная ткань в эпоксидной матрице
That looks like it worked very well. Thank you for the video I need to try this.
Congratulations buddy!
Good luck!
Very nice job!!! thank you.
You must use some high quality wax paper because your removal out of the mold was the cleanest I've ever seen on any how to video.
I used the milk brick, the paper milk bottle that has a layer of aluminium and a layer of plastic inside, that's why is so easy to remove
Gabrulo I didn't understand your response at first but watched the video while rereading it. So simple yet genius. Thank you.
Looks like parchment paper to me.
Genius mould container system
Ciao bel lavoro.....lo si può fare anche con resina epox?
Si certo, viene anche meglio, non la uso perché il costo è più alto e il risultato è buono anche con la poliestere

Now that I know how to make Micarta I would like to see a nice pre-shaped brass screen Micarta. Guess I know what my next project is.
This light source makes this video look like a Pixar movie. I thought it was computer generated at first!
A little dialog describing the process would be nice.
What kind of cloth were you using??
Самая большая проблема указанной методики - разнотолщинность пластины, хотя конечно приспособу можно придумать чтобы устранить этот фактор
You are the best
What type of resin or epoxy are you using?
Polyester resin, is cheaper than epoxy or clear resin and for micarta is good enough
Beuty... Is epoxi resin?
Thanks! Yes is epoxy resin or polyester resin
is the combined dust of the resin and fabric as itchy as fiberglass dust?
It's crazy how some people will not use enough and then complain about not being able to mix it properly with their material
Hi whats the resin called you are using matey and where can i buy it

Сколько слоев ткани было при изготовлении второй микарты .Спасибо

I think that with a clear casting resin it should come out the same colour
Gabrulo it looks like your scraps fabric changed color. The white appeared to turn clear.
I did construction paper and it all looked just wet.
I'm also using clear resin
Yes also because it is a kind of fabric quite thin, so once wet it turn trasparent
Try polyester fabrics maybe? I know they don't soak up anything.
Perfect !!!!!!
would have been nice if you'd shown WHAT you poured into the container!!!
Is polyester resin, the one used for fiber glass
that sound through headphones though...
Deus vult brother
Hahaha that's my favorite sound.
Take off your fuckin headphones then
You don't show the finished product sanded?
So basically, you should just buy micarta scales on Amazon?
What material used to make this and where can you buy it or find
I used simple fabric, you can use all the kind of fabric you want! You can mix different fabric in different colors and obtain always something cool! You can find the resin in every diy store, is the one for the fiber glass
Gabrulo what was that weird liquid use to mix the fabric together and what do you do with it
It is the resin, from liquid become solid, like glass, and since it is liquid at first it can be soaked in porous materials
When you make those stuff it look like jello
The marble rag piece isn't anywhere near level or flat. How will that work? The other piece is real nice.

What is the finished Micarta used for?
Knife handles
Most knife handles, but can be used for a lot of things, even rings or jewelry

process worked well but uses too much disposable waste.. This could be streamlined in order to make it profitable
I need it more to make my own knives than sell the micarta, but yes you are right

@@zackworrell what would you recommend?
Is this fiberglass resin? Epoxy is clear and very strong but this fiberglass changes the color....not in a good way!
Yeah but fiberglass resin is cheaper! Isn't good if you want bright colors, but is good enough for basic micarta
