In 2003, The Beatles released a now-out-of-print bonus disc of rehearsals from the Get Back sessions. It featured an excerpt of an abandoned song titled "Paul's Piano Piece". But historians have long regarded this piano piece as a cover version of Samuel Barber's iconic "Adagio For Strings". Tell us what you think.

Being a classical music fan, this makes me love Paul even more. And I really didn't think that was possible. The thing about Paul was that he had the most uncanny ear for music growing up. Listening to and _absorbing_ everything, then taking what he'd soaked up and creating his miraculous oeuvre.
Nicely put. Thanks for watching.
That's precisely what the best artists do! Take what they love, combine it, and make something new out of it.
I was brought up on classical music from the age of 8,1960. At 10, i began to self teach guitar. I tried to learn a piece of Bach played by Andre's Segovia " ,Segovia plays Bach".
In a interview by Michael Parkingson, he explained how he came up with "Blackbird ". It was the same piece that I'd learned in the early 60s.
He was on to something very beautiful with this piece. It sound s"somewhat" like the Adadio, but that bit of coutnerpoint to me reflects bach or handel more than Barber. Too bad he didn't develop it a bit more.
what do i think? i love the beatles but i don't think every beatle or mccartney fart is a work of genius worthy of intense scrutiny and absurd study. that's what i think.
Paul is a musical genius, and John was a lyrical genius, even though they crossed over at times and inspired each other. During this piano session, Paul also plays Golden Slumbers, and it really demonstrates the great gifts Paul has as a musician and songwriter. George is also brilliant, but he worked hard at it while it just came more naturally to Paul and John. Ringo is often totally underrated as a drummer. They all came together at the perfect time and gave us some of the greatest music of the 20th century; I feel lucky to have been alive at that time.
@@dean4482 I grew up with Lennon and know all his music. I perform his music more than all the others. I didn’t say he didn’t write beautiful music, but he could not sit down at a piano and play like Paul could, and Paul was much more prolific musically, was interested in Bach, etc. John was more creative with words, and even he said his musical ability was limited. But he had a unique way of phrasing his compositions that makes him unique, and Martin enjoyed working on Lennon’s songs most because there was a lot more for him to play with. Paul’s songs we’re almost always already fully conceived and close to finished.
@@dean4482 this is true. Moonlight Sonata. But Beethoven wrote that, and John took Beethoven’s piece and ran with it. I never said John wasn’t brilliant or a great songwriter. John constantly took ideas from others, like Mr. Kite coming from a carnival poster, or Come Together directly from Chuck Berry’s song You Can’t Catch Me. Of course, it was Paul who told John to slow it down and change the bass line so they wouldn’t get sued. None of that detracts from John’s brilliance, or from what I wrote.
You have to be in awe of Sir Paul. I love the Stones about as much as The Beatles but if you take the individual aa around talents of Keith, or Mick, it doesn't come within a country mile of McCartney. It's no knock on them they are great, but it's a fact.
@@vernpascal1531 Yes, I too think Paul is really a major song writing talent with no real competition. But I also think his greatest work was with The Beatles because of the influences of his band mates and George Martin, who also had their own unique and special gifts that happened to come in full force at the exact right time.
The Beatles were great. Paul was a genius.
Still is ..❤ blessed by God and loved by people
The Beatles are great and Paul is a genius
Yes.
PAUL IS A GENIUS 😉
Still is!
So moving.. well done…especially the short clip of John George and Ringo simply listening. How lucky we are to live on this side of the Beatles story
Thanks. That’s some creative editing based on something Ringo once said to the effect of ‘I could watch Paul play for hours’.
My thoughts exactly. Well said!
the images are not from the moment that paul plays that, but yeah, we were lucky all of them were genius
This has to be realeased as the final Paul McCartney's single. Sad and wonderful.
Nah. I’ll take “Now and Then” finished.
@@jennywren9068 same.
@@jennywren9068 Now and then could come out 2023/2024...Paul said he wanted to finish it 18 months ago, he must have done something by now.....
@@knockedoutloaded279 I don’t know. I really think it should be saved for the very last thing because it’s the two of them. The way the Abbey Road record ended with the suite and it’s perfect line- I would like Paul’s last project to be absolutely perfect. I like this - but I don’t agree it should be released as the last single. A classical piece wouldn’t be fitting as his last.
Confirmed. One of John’s demos ( they didn’t say but most assume “Now and Then” - I certainly hope so! -) to be released as the last Beatles song this year. It is finished.
I love hearing this piece completely produced. It’s gorgeous. Paul McCartney IS on a whole different level.
Thanks for listening. Appreciated!
Wow! So moving. You guys have excelled yourselves this time. You've have done Paul proud and fully realised this beautiful piece.
Thanks, Peter.
Would love to see Paul get his hands on this again with a full piece.
I always loved that intro piece on the let it be film. I heard ages ago that it was a cover of a classical piece but now I’m thinking that this was a McCartney original. Paul is Pure genius.
Same here!
OMG, I'm literally crying right now... Thank you so so much, this is just absolutely beautiful... I hope Paul sees this... Wow, just wow. (I love you Paul you're a genius😭)
Thanks @Michelle~
Gorgeous, i hope Paul gets to listen to this soon.
Everyday the Beatles continue to contribute and amaze ...
Thanks to demos and dedicated content creators.
Wow... this one made the hairs on my arm stand up.
When the singer comes in.... takes it to another level. it's hauntingly beautiful.
Best video you've done. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. We’re excited about Vol 2 and the next batch of videos.
I hope Paul's sees this soon, as agrees to play it with all of you, with your beautiful arrangements! They do justice to this piano piece he camebup with!
A gem in musical writing is when you can identify the complete song in the very first 3 to 6 notes that were composed in an original and precise sequence
My pleasure of playing the piano by ear for the past 55 years made me understand the genius simplicity of Paul music.
The following examples is how I can make my point hoping this makes sense to the reader ,,,
Ex: Fool on the Hill
Day___afterday
1____2 3 4
Ex: Yesterday
Yes___
terday
1____
2 3
What Paul was playing in this video was more of mumbling exercise of notes to eventually come out whit something valuable.
But this is just my say…
I imagine it was a piece Paul worked out at home as a way to make something that was completely classical. The inspiration is there but Paul has one of the greatest ears, he could find whatever sound with whatever chords he wanted.
Paul ought to record an album of piano pieces. 😊❤
The shots of the other 3 Beatles sitting and listening in “awe”, especially Lennon are hilarious. Although Ringo was actually sitting next to Paul when he was playing (and partially improvising) it. He looks pretty impressed. Has Paul heard your arrangement of this? I think he would like it.
Spectacular work. Amazing job finishing and realizing this piece.
Thanks @andylaw3
One of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard, was by Paul McCartney: The Palace of the King of the Birds", also known as "The Castle of the King of the Birds"

You have created (or rather re-created) a new addition to be included in all of Beatles history. You did it with care and love for the music and it shows. Thank you for such a gift to us all.
Thank you for those warm words. Means so much.
I think that the relationship between Lennon and McCartney reached an almost magical level of symbiosis, and the commercial demands to which they were tied was what suffocated them... in the Get Back videos, they looked exhausted, wanting to recover that magical relationship, but it was too late, they both created together with Harrison a very great work. It's hard for me to decide who was better than the other. On the one hand Lennon was innovative and quite raw in his lines while McCartney was more melodic and refined. Harrison was not given the time or the space until he was a soloist to prove it, but he managed to give true jewels to the quartet's catalogue. That is my point of view.✌️🌼🌻✨
It sounds as though it would've fit nicely on The Family Way. A lovely interpretation by all involved. Thank you Brett for another fascinating video. Ttake care my friend, RNB
Thanks RnB!
You're doing such a great job with these "almost songs" but it's bittersweet these tunes were abandoned, probably in favor of other more commercial or rocky songs. Thanks again for the supurb work...
Thanks for watching!
Superb rendition and arrangement. Stunning.
Thank you so much.
Barty
Thanks, Barty!
We're discovering there was more Paul to the Beatles from Rubber Soul onward than John George or Ringo.
Awesome...haunting!
Jack ~'()'~
Not a classical fan but this is a beautiful piece. John was said to have written "Because" from having Yoko play "Moonlight Sonata" (correct me if I have the wrong song) backwards and 'riffing" on it. How many great melodies have been inspired by the classics? I can totally believe Paul was inspired by the classical piece.
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Fine work and an excellent short documentary! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Paul still Genius.Yesterday was his 81th birthday.
WOW. Well done! Gorgeous. You've done a fantastic job with this. There's also a part of me that wishes that you could get Paul to pen some lyrics for this piece (I get it, it's a classical piece, but so much of Paul's stuff could be classical if you removed the lyrics and adapted it for orchestra or piano). Still, BRAVO!!!! 👏
Paul has used a couple of classical pieces as inspiration over the years.
What a wonderful arrangement and sensitive performance by all. I bet Paul was well chuffed. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Blessed to have grown up during his early solo career.
I think it is amazing for a kid to hear something years before then produce something similar years later having only heard it perhaps one time.
I thought the same thing. He really has an amazing mind.
You're doing a fantastic job, you really are.
Thanks!
Paul’s piece and Barber’s Adagio are both contemplative in a minor key but not the same. You’ve done a nice arrangement.
Sadly, I hear this as a requiem. Perhaps for the Beatles or for Sir Paul. 😯
The poem "Old Friend", beautifully written by literary artist David Sanz and confirmed to have been written in the same poetic style as John Lennon and inspired by his last words to Paul McCartney, is both mysterious and heartwarming. As explained by the author, "The poem pays homage to the unbreakable bond between two teenagers from the small port city of Liverpool who, along with their mates, impacted the lives of millions and changed the world with their songs... forever."
"Think about me every now and then, old friend." - John Lennon ruclips.net/video/gwLbAlbsbCA/видео.html
Thanks for sharing,I’d love to see your piano score of this song.
Could we get a proper version of Commonwealth, the Beatles Protest Song?
"YES!"
Or Madman. That’s a good one too.
Beautiful sound & video editing; captured the art & melancholy of Paul’s piano piece. Made my first experience of the piece that much more enjoyable. Subbed.
Many thanks!
Paul’s music is the soundtrack to the lives of so many of us. This piece is heartrendingly beautiful.
Paul's expressed emotional lament from the break up & future of the Beates!🎉
The Bach comparison was honestly closest for me. Also it sounds a lot like McCartney being chord led rather than based on turning a melody into harmonies like Barber.
Wow! What an unexpectedly brilliant video that was!
Thanks, Keith.
Please also post videos on the sources of Madman/All i want is you & Paul’s Piano Piece.
Another beautiful interpretation.
Thanks for listening
Beautiful! This is Classical Music!
Is it possible to have a tutorial of the song or some chords? Love this piece!
Thank you for all that you masterfully have done here! Bringing this music to life!
Thank you for taking the time. Appreciated!
Paul should write the lyrics to this. And sing it
At a couple of points it feels like it is going to break into Baby I'm Amazed, it definitely shares a chord or two

Brilliant.....Best play & analysis of Sir Paul's hidden gem..... while those with biased comments below have no peace at all!
Bravo!!! Masterfully done👏👏👏👏
one word ....Wonderful
Great video and performances! One thing that’s perplexing me… at 4: 20 why is the lady singing into a mic with no lead connected? 😅
Nicely done. I don't really hear this McCartney piece as a copy of Barber's "Adagio for Strings." Yes, there is a transition from one chord to another that's the same and is therefore somewhat reminiscent for a measure or so, and as pointed out the mood is similar. But for me that's where the similarity ends. If copying a musical piece is defined as moving from one chord degree to another particular chord degree--and that transition also happens to have been made in some other piece--then all songs are copies of some other song because all those movements have been made before--countless times. Instead, this is an original piece that sounds at times like it could have been written by a number of different classical composers.
Remember, Paul wrote a symphony
Still is … 🙏🏻❤️
THANKS! I always wondered about this, since 1969!
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Happy Holidays!
@@almostbeatlessongs It's the season for you to post The Beatles' annual Christmas messages to their Fan Club and their song Christmas Time is Here Again, and George singing Good King Wencelas!
Wow, thats beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful, everyone!!! 🎻🎻🎻🎹🎼 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
Thanks for sharing this exploration. There are many examples of McCartney writing passages which he acknowledges are attempts to emulate a classical style or specific composer. Penny Lane"s high trumpet solo and obligato is a well-known one (JS Bach) and the keyboard breaks on several Help! and Rubber Soul tracks also. Having classically trained producer George Martin around to advise was also influential.
Interesting!
And so Paul composed "Yesterday" on Air from suite 3 by Bach.
It's not a million miles away from Winter Rose from Back to The Egg.
The Beatles throwaway and give away music is as good or better than many bands hit songs😅
Actually it has a bit of a baroque feel to it.
Lovely beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
❤❤❤❤Great music Paul!
thank you that was enlightening,
Wonderful!
Great cover
I don't know what happened to Paul - maybe he "ran out of inspiration" (whatever that means) or he felt he had nothing left to prove - but most of those songs he wrote between about 1964-1976 are incredible, he was a force of nature.
Everyone gets old, I guess. I'm still in awe at times.
@@almostbeatlessongs
Glastonbury astounded me - I mean, 80 years old!
I love a lot of his recent work. Some of it is less densely musically clever, but there are plenty of clever and unexpected gems. He's still got the music
I would say 1963-1980. He wrote some good pieces on London Town, Back to the Egg and McCartney II.
I agree with 1964ish to 1975ish, but I think 1997s Flaming Pie and 2005s Chaos And Creation are also two of his best solo albums
Great paul😊😊😊😊❤❤
McCartney’s work is, at its core, more interesting. A wonderful piece of music. I see no relationship to Barber’s overeaten cake.
So very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!

Anyone else hear for a second 'from the chandeler!!! I wanna swing, from the chandeler!!!
So, the demo of this is where Paul kind of noodles a bit more and stops and starts, right?
Macca could've probably been a concert pianist if he had been born in a different enviroment.
It doesn't matter what I think, or what anyone thinks. What does Paul think and have to say about this?
Amazing
