If NL is showing anything with all this wacky builds, is how well balanced the game is with so few balance tweaks. It's actually pretty incredible the amount of variety you can go for in your builds and still make them work
It's really impressive considering that all of the abilities are generally very simple and easy to understand.
it's not because it's balanced, some can get more consistent win/lose results then others, it's just that they all have a scenario where they work better, combined with the complete randomness of your shop and impossibility to pick the "best team"(like 5 lvl 3 chettas), this leads to a diversified meta
And then you get wrecked by a crab cascade at 9 wins

To be fair, he specifically said in the tier list that he'd literally never bought one and wanted to see if it could work
with his food build there was definitely no synergy, but this is technically a can for every tier 1 animal you buy, so it only cost 2, this can be good for scaling

I love making weirdo builds like the 4 birds on turn 2 that just make people go "what the"
My favorite was the round 3 level 3 ant and pufferfish 2 squad marty
I finally got around to try and make a hedgehog build work. It was stupid, it didn't get to go far (sadly I never saw a pufferfish and I probably don't know how to make that build work well). It may have lost at 5 wins, but damn were these early wins glorious. Doing good builds that win games is fun, but trying to make dumb synergies work is just as fun sometime. And hey it can even work out from time to time. Usually, achievement hunting helps with trying out weird builds too, trying to get lvl 3 on less popular units (though I know it's gonna be a pain to do that for units that gain nothing when leveling...). So yeah, a toast to weird builds !
My favorite was when I decided to I was done with my squad so I pilled a microbe in the shop and went to battle. It was my gift to whomever the engine matched against my team. You're welcome. I hope y'all laughed as much as I did. :)
Duudeee. NL hit the nail on the head when he said it was sick to have a unit you spent 3 gold on beat their 30 gold unit. He's investing so much into the scorpion but it still frequently just trades with the one unit.
The Skunk in D tier was a mistake. I disrespected this unit for too long but it's a great counter to the crab meta

Love seeing NL 'go a bit crazy here', or in other words, discovering food builds. (I feel confident making snarky comments like this because I've never played this game and never watched anyone other than NL play it, so I think I'm a bit of an expert)

I'm not saying that squirrel is always the way to go, but with a flex position in food meta, you could do far worse than filling your shop with food (which can include food outside of roll range btw)
I've been known to buy a squirrel from time to time. Sometimes you just wanna fish for them cans
I just wish the squirrel didn't cost so much to essentially just fill the shop with inconsistent foods

I fell off Inscryption hard in Act2. I respect that it's being weird and changing things up but I want more of those Act1 vibes. I'll probably just watch NL play it from here on out.
@@tim_schu5850 Im still loving it, I was a little uncomfortable after act 1 when it changed but I am now understanding the actual point of the evolving systems. I highly recommend continuing through act 2, it continues to get more interesting and suggests a lot more in regards to act 1! Trying not to spoil much but the puzzles and content past act 1 is very interesting and innovative once you get over the "oof I just got used to how act 1 played" vibes.

If leveled scorpion had on death summon a level 1 scorpion or if it could hold an addition item to the peanut, or puts a peanut in the shop would make holding a scorpion so much better IMO.
Scorpion is already top tier, it doesn't need a buff. It would be OP

@@mustange69 I personally like the idea that all animals have an upgrade, but scorpion would need to be totally resigned to do that. You can't just give it an upgrade on top of how it works now.
It's already very well balanced. It's strong, but also easily countered. It doesn't need to be any better.
When your big Frontline unit video dropped, I got to 8 or 9 wins consistently by just buying 1 red ladybug and hardly buying units. Just shoving it full of apples

Hey NL! Don't get discoraged by the current crab meta! I just went 10 for 10 today with a dog and mosquito with melon armor that I was able to scale very quickly. The meta can be taken down!
I think the idea of a meta is higher percentage plays rather than depending on luck.

My youtube history is juiced with NL SAP vids with no squeeze in sight
I just discovered chicken dragon yesterday. I used shrimp scampi to get me to tier 5s, hit a dragon on upgrade and swapped out. Although it never would have worked without my dog, which I think is what you were missing to have a beefy frontliner you actually wanted to keep.
Big scorp is hilarious. It probably isn't viable but the thought of rolling a squad of 5 with a scorpion is too funny to not do

Ten health feels too high, but I def get the desire to boost it to shift more of the meta off of early game.
NL doesn't mention that midgame losses will take off 2 lives and late game 3 lives.
tier 1 rounds loss -> -1 health
tier 2 rounds loss -> -2 health
tier 3 rounds and above loss -> -3 health
I do not know how it works, but i've tried playing this game with these videos on in the background and so far out of 6 runs i've lost one of them and gotten a 10 win on all the others. I think there is something about NL talking things out that makes me magically learn how to play the game. Like my last run started bad with a bunch of blue birds, but I decided to get a rooster leveled up and the blue birds started making the rooster scale very well and somehow everything started making sense and I ended up with a level 3 rooster and level 3 cheetah and completely wiping out the butterfly builds.

having 10hp might make slow squads more viable, but I don't think it will overthrow the current meta, cause you still need to win the same amount in total.
If people start throwing early it might make the current strats even easier.

Thanks to NL’s videos with dragons and all of Ludwig’s viewers cancelling out the Egg viewers meta builds I finally got my first 10 win last night. Dragon, Buffalo, and a level 3 otter was all it took. Love this series but I’m so shit at this game lol

Future Animal ideas for SAP:
Tier 3 Wolf: 2/2 that gains 2/2 for each empty adjacent space, gains 4/3 for adjacent wolves
Tier 4 Lion: 2/6 that gains 2/1 per enemy kill (any of your animals) spawns x/3 lioness per kill
I have no idea about balance and haven't played but it's fun to workshop ideas!

As a duck start main, I would love 10 hp instead of 4
I'm gonna be honest I never realized the Ladybug gets the buff regardless of who eats the food so I've literally never used it (and I only play pay to win lol)

I totally agree with you about the health system in this game, but I don’t have an elegant solution.
The way the game works now with the completely random players (no lobbies) only really works because you have a hard cap on how many times you need to win and how many loses you can take. If there was a system of variable wins/losses like some kind of points based system then things could get a little out of whack.
But it would be nice like… the way Hearthstone Battlegrounds does it is with an HP value where the damage you take for losing a round is based on the tiers of the remaining enemy monsters. That way you can have a turn where you’re scaling knowing you’ll lose, but you can set yourself up in a way that might only lose a few HP instead of guaranteed loss of 25% of your life. Basically a close loss is not the same value as an absolute destruction. In SAP, a loss is always identical no matter if you lost to a little 1/1 bee at the end.
Not sure how they’d change that.
Only thing I can currently think of is an item or even a limited use button where you, like… you click this button and it prevents both players from losing health the next round on loss, but it also prevents ONLY YOU from getting a win if you win. The opponent can still win and get closer to ten wins, and a loss also them no health.
Maybe something like you get one new button click every time you reach a new tier with a max total of three per session?
But this way it doesn’t hurt the other player in the round, it benefits them too, but it allows you to have a turn where you can just throw your whole team out in the name of scaling without getting chunked for it.

I just read they are changing it to a system where in the first few rounds you lose 1 heart, then 2 and then 3 as the game progresses past certain points and gives you 10 health to play with, it's a great solution that can be tweaked a bit still as well
