I don't understand this sentiment. People spend thousands of dollars on sports jerseys or sneakers they'll never wear, or simple baseball cards, but more than $30 for a really nice book is too much? Take the Way of Kings leatherbounds for example, they're pretty expensive but I consider them cheap for how high quality they are, they're filled to the brim with art, printed in two colors, with gold foil stamping and page edges, a gold ribbom bookmark, is made to last generations with high quality paper, binding, and leather, with custom illustrated chapter headers, etc. Special editions like that are more than worth the $200 as a special purchase to treat yourself because you get so much out of it, there is so much love and effort put in to make it an amazing reading experience, not even including the amazing story within the book, compared to a baseball card people spend thousands of dollars on and then put in a safe or something.
@@Jrdn357 The "sentiment" comes from someone who has to balance a budget. $30 equates to 3/4 of a tank of gas or a small grocery haul of essentials. For some of us $30 for a book (no matter how nice it is) is quite a sacrifice. Hence why I said, interviews like this help make the sacrifice feasible (i.e. worth it).
@@booksofa.i.m.3698 Oh, sure, I wasn't arguing against that, or even you. I was honestly just rambling lol and your comment sparked it in my mind. I just find it funny how, like I said, some people fork out thousands of dollars for a sports jersey or rare baseball card which has no purpose when the shirt will never be worn, and the card rarely even looked it, but they'd say a $200 book is way too expensive, but in reality you get so much more out of it, and it's absolutely worth the price because it costs that much to just MAKE it.
I did not expect that either. My brain is still computing that someone that looks that young has written 3 whole novels. I guess Patrick-Rothfuss-aesthetics is what my brain usually associates with male fantasy authors 😂
I love these books so far. It has been a long time that a series has grabbed me this hard and solid. Thank you Petrik and Ryan. Congratulations also to Ryan and Amy.
I am so happy for you that you got this opportunity, Petrik!! And thanks for sharing a bit of the fun with us, I loved this wholesome video! Now I am only getting more and more excited for The Ice, Cahill simply never misses! 🤩
I think you have a great reading taste. And I love your videos. Can you please please please one day make a video of the best books that mix fantasy and scifi. And this is such a wholesome video :)
So happy for you Petrik - you got to spend time with Ryan and in beautiful bali no less! 😊 where i'm at it is rainy and cold so I'll try not to be too jealous. I know you don't really do reading vlogs, but it would be cool if you could post a little video about your time in bali (let me live vicariously! 😆)
So happy for you, Petrik, that you got the opportunity to actually meet Ryan in person 😃 This was really fun to watch! I'm very excited for The Ice!! Sounds like it's gonna be another great & interesting read 🤓
Petrik, wonderful interview, in person. So glad to got to meet him. Cahill's books are excellent, can't wait for the Ice to be released. He is such a nice person, all the best to him, he deserves to become a household name. I always recommend him to readers.
Thank you so much, Frank! And yeah, his books keep getting better and better. I'm glad I gave his books a chance. Now I'm a fan of The Bound and the Broken! Looking forward to reading The Ice, too. And well done on recommending his books! :)
Omg!!! So exciting!!! I am even am more excited to read the series now. Just bought The Fall!. Bali, Indonesia! I can't wait to go there traveling there next year! ❤❤
I've purchased all of Ryan's books on the sole fact that he's such a cool dude. Can't wait to read them. I also really wanted to get one of those special editions he had but my wife said no lol. Already went over my book budget 😂
This was great Petrik! You already had his works on my radar but after hearing about the writing process I find myself interested in picking it up soon. Awesome. :)
I have still not got round to this series but I will be starting it this week after I finish A woman of the Sword by Anna Smith Spark. Good interview too, dude
Thank you very much! I think I received a new book by Anna Smith Spark recently. Not A Woman of the Sword, but probably A Sword of Bronze and Ashes! :D
This is pretty awesome man that you got to meet him at his wedding pretty awesome guy to let you do it interview his books are awesome and they only get better and better
Nope! I live in Jakarta. I took a short trip to Bali to meet Ryan. Might as well because it has been a while since I've been in Bali. I REALLY want to go back to Japan again. I miss that country so much.
I think the books would have been great. The moment i saw the "F" word in the 3rd? chapter of The Fall, i was unfortunately out. Now dont get me wrong i use profanity like punctuation; it's just that it took me out of the immersion. To me, "F" is human/earth profanity, not a fantasy world in a distant, fictional universe. I was stoked to read the series, but regrettably lost interest after that.
It's interviews like this and humble authors like Cahill that make spending $30+ for a hardback feasible.
Hahaha! Thank you so much. And hey, that hardback is filled with great stories! :)

This was such a fun author interview I enjoyed it completely. You should do such face-to-face interviews more Petrik
If only that's possible, Sumit. Opportunity like this is insanely rare. 😂
As someone who is reading Of Darkness and Light right now… I did not expect Ryan to be a handsome young man.
What do you expect him to be? A grizzly mean old man? xD
I did not expect that either. My brain is still computing that someone that looks that young has written 3 whole novels. I guess Patrick-Rothfuss-aesthetics is what my brain usually associates with male fantasy authors 😂

That's awesome to hear. The series keeps getting better and better with each book. Glad that you're enjoying it! :)
Glad you got to test your in-person interviewing skills out, finally!
Much love to Petrik, Ryan, Amy and Indonesia
Thank you so much, Ronald! Hopefully this is a sign of many in-person chat in the future! :p
Im only on book 2...and this man genuinely writes the best action ive ever read. SO EXCITED.
That action ramps up insanely in Of War and Ruin, too. Enjoy the journey!

So cool! Congrats. I just ordered all the books currently out a couple of days ago. The FOMO was real.
Thank you! Haha, we all can't resist the lure of FOMO. I have been a victim, too. xD
This is sooo cool!! Ryan seems such a cool dude!
It was really cool! We had a great time. Thank you so much, my friend! :)
This is great and stoked for you Petrik. Ryan is a talented, humble guy who deserves all the success he seems to be getting.
Thank you very much, Dan! That is accurate. And his books are wonderful, too! 😁

Thank you, Andrew! It was a great chat. Hopefully we can chat again someday! 😄
@@PetrikLeo Hopefully. I always love watching any interviews with Ryan. He's one of my idols at the moment!
This series is amazing!!!! I’m on the first book and I am hooked! Can’t wait to read the rest!
Oh it definitely is! If you like the first book already, the rest of the series will blow you away! :D
Love the bromance you guys have!
I haven't read much of Ryan's stuff yet but I own all of the books and have been meaning to.
Thank you so much! Hahaha, honestly it was like chatting to a friend I never met in person! 😂
His books are amazing
I've purchased all of Ryan's books on the sole fact that he's such a cool dude. Can't wait to read them. I also really wanted to get one of those special editions he had but my wife said no lol. Already went over my book budget 😂

How cool that you were able to meet up! I love the friendly banter dynamic haha
Thank you so much, Maria! It was a fun chat!
This was sooo awesome. I have the first 2 books on the way to me and I can't wait to get into them!
Thank you for watching! I hope you'll enjoy reading The Bound and the Broken! :)
I love the trend of free novellas now because I’m trying a lot more new authors this way.
OWAR is a masterpiece. I love it.
Me too. Those free novellas gave us what to expect from the main novels and the author's writing! 😁
This was great Petrik! You already had his works on my radar but after hearing about the writing process I find myself interested in picking it up soon. Awesome. :)
Thank you so much, Niki!! I hope you will enjoy this. At the very least, you will get cool dragons in this series. :D
@@PetrikLeo thank you! You know a good dragon is all I usually need haha.
this was like one of the chillest interviews i've ever seen. shed a bit on light on if I should get into this series or not. thanks!
Haha we pretty much were just talking casually about books. 😂😂
@@PetrikLeo well, definitely invade more honeymoons in the future when you can for stuff like this!
This is amazing. Good for you!
Thank you so much!! I had so much fun! :D
I loved this. I especially enjoyed Petriks enormous grins and enjoyment.
Hahaha thank you! As you can tell, we had a great and wonderful time chatting about books! :)
I’m at work so don’t have time to watch right now but I’m excited to see this when I get off!
I hope you will enjoy watching the chat. We had a great time chatting! :)
What a fun interview, Petrik! I must admit I never read any of his books, but I might have to change that. Have a good weekend! Barbara
Thank you, Barbara! No worries. Never too late. And his series will be finished in 2025! :)

Do you live in Bali, Petrik? I spent two weeks there in 2015. Loved the food!! I live in Japan so it's not too, too far.

Thank you so much! It was such a great opportunity. Something I never thought would be possible here hahaha.
So is this why it costs you soooo much in shipping living in Indonesia?
What do you mean? Shipping Ryan Cahill to Indonesia? That's mega expensive. 😂
