Destiny 2: Is It Time to Care About Elemental Well Mods?

  • There have been almost 2 dozen elemental well mods added to the game since their initial debut. So uh... are they good NOW? Or are we still waiting on some more buffs before we get into a better spot?
This video is an overview of all of the mods. I'm sure there are some mods here that work within very specific builds, but there's no way I'm gonna be able to account for all the different subclass branches and exotics across every single character.

    Solar mods - 9:45
    Void mods - 12:15

Weird how arc gets the mod that makes wells track, since they’re generated by melee and finishers you’re already right next to the enemy. Unless you’re using throwing knives or something

    • @secret1566
      @secret1566 2 года назад +29

I think the idea was to have tracking wells along with some of the other well mods are designed with different elements to push mixing up armor. Similar to how Protective light is void but if you're spamming supers powerful friends and radiant light are both arc. I think they just expect people to use different elements and different armor.

    • @dinkabird7883

CWL mods weren't divided up among the 3 elements very well (was 3 at the time).
Instead of splitting them up by their function, it almost seems like it's the "add-ons" that determined what elemental slot they were put in.
Arc CWL mods gave a secondary bonus if you had additional Arc mods slotted, Void CWL mods had lowered armor cost in exchange for a stat penalty, and Solar CWL mods stacked their effect with multiple copies.
Not only were they assigned based on the "add-on effect", in some cases I think you could make a good case that some of the mods should have been given a different add-on effect in the first place.

    • @Welverin
      @Welverin 2 года назад +5

Get a set of armor for each element type.
Use the armor focusing for Season of Splicer armor at the Recaster. If you equip a ghost mod for one ability and focus a different one, you can target your two preferred abilities. Just be aware that there are two groups of abilities (Mob-Res-Rec and Dis-Int-Str) and you can only choose one per group, trying to go for two from one group will not work. Should always be over 60 total with some extremely spiky distributions.
Corrupted Expunge Tartarus is very short and doing 5-6 runs each week will get you all the Decrypted Data you need for your three tier 3 focuses each week. Split that between two characters and you can get some Season of the Splicer weapons with an each perk along the way and maybe get something sweet.
Soooo, if you get yourself four sets of armor with similar stats for each element type all you then have to worry about is paying glimmer to equip different mods.

I think that the real combo is a heavy weapon in each element to pair Font of Might with, and then some way to generate wells for each subclass. All subclasses can use elemental armaments, arc has melees and finishers, stasis has shards, void has grenades or class abilities I guess, and then solar has more grenades. This is all in service of getting fond of might for your heavy weapon that matches your subclass element.

  • @DarkDemon259

    Here's my build.
Class: Stasis/middle tree solar hunter. Stasis aspects are Grim Harvest and touch of winter and fragments I use in order of subjective importance are Conduction, Rime, Fissures, Chains. Gambler's dodge of course.
Armor: 2 solar, 1 void, 1 stasis and the last piece can be any element (star eater exotic boots as stasis)
Combat mods: charged up and supercharged (2 solar), energy converter (1 void), elemental shards/melee well maker (swap stasis armor combat mod to melee well maker when using blade barrage), elemental charge goes on the last piece. Other complementary mods can be used as energy allows on your armor. I use bomber (grenade cooldown on dodge) and absolution (ability energy when picking up orbs)
Seasonal mods: Thermoclastic blooming, thermoclastic strike and hands on. Well of potency might also be worth considering but I'm not resetting my artifact to test.
The idea: With the above mods, every melee kill will spawn an orb of power and a shard/well. With high mobility and gambler's dodge, you'll be tossing out melees constantly. Every well or shard that counts as a well gives you +2 charged with light. The cooldown on the elemental shards is negligible as the idea is to just get to 5 stacks by the time you use your super. With all the wells and orbs being generated, you will get your super extremely quickly. Star eater also buffs your super for every orb you pick up after it's full (up to 8 stacks). As soon as you use your super, throw a grenade. Energy converter will convert your 5 stacks of CwL into 50% of your super energy on grenade throw. Important to note that it will only charge you up to 50% from 0%. It will not generate any of your super energy after the 50% mark. It's best used as soon as you throw out a super to fill it from 0%. Keep picking up orbs and wells and you'll have your super back again within seconds to repeat the process. Just make sure you have a grenade and 5 stacks ready for when you toss out your next super. As a bonus, you can use a rocket with explosive light. Every orb you pick up not only gives you energy to your abilities and super, but also every orb after a filled super gives you stacks of feast of light for your boots (which also lets you keep picking up orbs even though your super is filled). With an explosive light rocket, every orb will also give you a stack of explosive light. Your rocket will constantly have explosive light procced which is a constant 25% buff compared to 15% on a vorpal rocket. You'll run out of rocket ammo before you run out of explosive light charges since all it takes is a melee to spawn an orb.

It will also grant me a continuous healing buff alongside my hammer healing me when it’s picked up. Using this with Synthos, one two punch shotty, and tractor cannon makes a nice overall tanky melee build

Expanding on the agers build, shatter kills count as explosions for solar wells. You can then get more grenade energy from the wells for bleakwatchers. On my stasis aeon hunter, I run shards as wells, charged with light from wells, reactive pulse, font of wisdom, and protective light. You always have protective light, font of wisdom adds 50 int for a 20 seconds iirc that gets refreshed when you get stasis shards, and it's hard not to produce shards as a hunter when you bounce melee and fling giant snow gloves

Loving the Ashen Wake gaunlets with these mods. 3 x explosive wellmaker, 1 x bountiful wells and 1 x well of ordnance. Middle tree sunbreaker rips through adds once roaring flames is up in low-mid tier content, and also viable in master lost sections and dungeons with bottom tree using those healing sunspots. Apart from bubble or thundercrash for boss damage, I really haven't taken this build off in the last month.

    I've been loving Elemental Wells since their introduction, mainly because I'm a ability heavy player [Nezarec's chaos nova will do that to you]. I've not experienced with the more niche applications of wells like you've explained in this video Datto, but my build at the moment is honestly the most fun I've had in D2;
Top tree Nova with Nezarec's Sin and Deafening Whisper/Null Composure -OR- Top tree Arc with Crown and Salvager's Salvo -OR- Any Solar tree with Mantle and Vex
Helm - Any, but Solar for Ashes to Assets works wonders - Elemental Armaments [gun kills that match subclass make wells]
Arms - Stasis - Grenade Kickstart [When you use a grenade, you gain grenade energy]
Chest - Any - Font of Wisdom [getting a matching well boosts super regen]
Legs - Any - Font of Might [getting a matching well boosts elemental damage of that type]
Class - If I'm not using Particle Deconstruction then Elemental Ordanance [grenades make wells]
This is such a fun, ability spammy build, and I use it in all content, patrol, strikes, gambit [where the arc version SHREDS], even GM's if I'm a second warlock.

One setup I've enjoyed running as my base is Behemoth Titan running the Tectonic Harvest aspect + Whisper of Shards, Conduction, and Rime. Paired with Elemental Shards, double grenade kickstart, Well of Restoration, and Elemental Charge. Whisper of Conduction is just a matter of preference for me, you could easily switch it out for Chains and benefit from the DR buff as well.
With this setup when you throw down a glacier grenade and shatter it, you get a decent amount of overshield from Whisper of Rime, free Charged with Light x2, and due to double grenade Kickstart + Well of Restoration giving ~40% of your grenade back instantly and Whisper of Shards increasing your grenade regeneration speed, you get your grenade back for free too so you can do it all over again.
From there you can tack any CWL or Well mods on that you like. Protective Light is nice for high end content like Master VoG, working with Whisper of Rime (and Chains, if you run it) to improve your survivability greatly. High Energy Fire/Font of Might is good as well, I use them in GMs for nuking champs and Master VoG to melt Atheon. Lucent Blade is great to have on demand if you're running around with Crown Splitter. Those are the main three I run with, but there are other options as well.
Of course, this build does come with the fairly large downside of requiring you to use Behemoth Titan. That said, I don't personally mind having to deal with it in exchange for all these advantages.

Making a tanky Void Titan is also fun.
Void Detonator from Code of The Commander count towards the Solar mods explosive requirements. With the Well of Life and the health Regen you can take just a bit more punishment than you normally would.
Mobius Quiver works great with the Stasis Well mod that activates on super cast, as each arrow counts as a cast. This subclass works well with Reaping Well Maker as it is also void. Hunters have gained a HUGE boon from this system. It really does make them more viable.

Arc elemental wells with hunter liars handshake is one of the most fun n effective builds I've tried in a while, use top tree arcstrider, for mods basically use ur charged melee to get arc well use seeking well to get it, dodge to get ur melee back n u have a dmg boost on ur melee n repeat the process, ur subclass and liars handshake give u health regeneration and u can use the wells to get charged with light n protective light if u want.
This by it self kills everything but for bosses u can just switch between one two punch shotgun and tractor cannon for debuff and extra damage on melee.

    Titan - Mid-Tree Void
    Elemental Ordnance x3
    Overcharge Wellmaker
    Bountiful Wells.
How it works is that I get 4 void wells on a grenade kill, which charges most of my grenade and other abilities. Since this is mid-tree void I get ability energy back from the Void Detonators. If this doesn't fully replenish my grenade, I can then perform a finisher and get the last bit necessary.

One of my main builds for pve this season is revenant hunter with elemental shards, thermoclastic blooming, and melee wellmaker with assassin's cowl, as well as the aspect that makes shards give an overshield, so one shuriken makes at least one shard, a well, at least one orb, and makes me invisible, as well as the shards give me an overshield. Using that with heavy handed and melee kickstart so I can throw a comical number of shurikens that have that many effects. And throw in the mod that makes them overload when there's overload champions. Plus, all I'll lose from that core next season is the orbs.

I highly suggest running a Firewalker elemental well build on your Titan. I got this idea from Rick Kackis and while I saw his video a while back so I'm not sure if my build is exactly the same as his, credit where credit is due. The mods I run are Elemental Armaments, Font of Might, Well of Life, Elemental Charge, and High Energy Fire. I use Path of the Burning Steps as my exotic, and then either Ticuu's or Mythoclast as my primary. With this setup either your Ticuu's or your Mythoclast will make you wells just by shredding everything in your path, and those wells regen your health as well as activating both your mod damage buffs and the Firewalker damage buff from your exotic. On top of that, by using bottom tree Sunbreaker, your ability kills also heal you and grant the Firewalker bonus, and you get your abilities back faster due to the well mods. I haven't tried it in GMs, but I've used it in most other activities including normal VoG and it's one of my top 3 most fun builds in the history of the game.

Worth noting that sometimes varying your well generation mods with Bountiful Wells get more well spawns per mod than just stacking a single type. You save on a mod slot, and make your well generation more versatile.

This with Eye of another world with 100 discipline give infinite turrets and protective light, with any weapons you want to use(no need for demo).

It's nice this system has been getting fleshed out more now that warmind cells are better balanced. There's also some cool interactions that some people are not even aware of with these like ballistic slam on missile titan can make use of explosive wellmaker on kills. You can get free health regen straight despite using the melee to divebomb enemies. Void wells are great too because you can keep refreshing the damage resistance from well of tenacity and combining this with elemental charge and stacks on stacks makes for some nasty combos.
Esoterickk's done some solo content with wells on titan that have worked out pretty great and something I'll be using for solo flawless pit. I think Stasis shards/well builds are nuts on Shadebinder. Use the Mantle of Battle Harmony as your exotic armor. Run Bleak Watcher and Glacial Harvest, with Whisper of Rime, Conduction, and most importantly Bonds (the last one you can choose between Chains and Fissures, both do fairly well, I opt for Fissures). The mods I run are Elemental Shards, Elemental Charge, High Energy Fire, Font of Might, Resonance Siphon, and of course Ager’s Scepter with the catalyst. I’ve used this build in all 3 GMs so far with great success.
This build turns Ager’s into the best Swiss Army Knife known to man. You freeze a target, they drop shards. You pick them up, giving you both Font of Might and Charged with Light, which means High Energy Fire is also active (and for those who don’t know, Font of Might and High Energy Fire do stack). Then you use Ager’s catalyst to burn your super for more damage, and melt. It’s an insanely easy damage loop to keep up. This isn’t even mentioning that you have a constant overshield thanks to Rime and Conduction collecting all the shards for you. Need more super for Ager’s catalyst. Just add clear like normal, you you’ll be generating bonus super energy because of Bonds, meaning you can get your super back in less than a minute if done properly. Couple that with Bleak Watchers freezing and providing you more shards, and Resonance Siphon giving you another grenade/turret every 3 champion stuns, and you literally can’t stop generating shards. I don’t even have elemental armaments, which could potentially make this build even better.
Anyone who wants a crazy stasis build, this is it. You’re the tank and the damage. Very fun, highly recommend.

I absolutely love Elemental Wells this season. They are my go-to now. Also Bountiful Wells is actually nuts. If you have 1 Melee Wellmaker, 1 Well of Ordinance, 2 Explosive Wellmakers, and 1 Bountiful Wells you generate 7 wells out of bottom tree Dawn grenades. That's enough well energy to fully regenerate your melee/grenade. You have essentially infinite abilities. Slap on Helm of Fellwinter or Necrotic Grips and go to town. I've been using Reaping Wellmaker and Font of Wisdom on a Graviton Forfeit build that has double utility kickstart, allowing me to have 100% invisibility uptime, and essentially play as if I have 100 in every stat but Resilience (Mobility and Discipline are 100, Graviton tops off my Recovery, Dodging gives my Melee back, and Font of Wisdom essentially caps my Intellect). I'm also enjoying Melee Wellmaker and Font of Wisdom on my Titan (edit: Specifically with Doomfangs).
