This is my favorite DT song! 🤘🏽 Glad to see him back in the band, im saying this w/o taking anything away from Mangini who is a phenomenal drummer during Portnoys absence.
Now that Portnoy has declared Absolution (2003) one of his top10 favorite albums, I'd like to see the reaction of those 6 years ago who laughed about Muse being Portnoy's influence.
No argument there. He loved the album and took the style for his own music. Portnoy is a progressive drummer. The basis for all progressive music is influence; gather styles and tendencies from other bands, musicians and genres, and combine them to form something extraordinary. But too many people mistake influence with copying.
@@DonHaka It rocks because it sounds like muse, And Muse rocks. But because it sounds so muse And it Was nota written by Muse, It is a little disapointing to see this (almost) copy
He is getting hand sprayed. Over the last few years he has developed dry hands. He said in his DVD that his tech sprays water unto the sticks and his hands, wich makes it easier to grip
Think about what you just said, and then think about which band came first. I realize this video was posted in 2009, but DT has been playing like this MUCH MUCH MUCH longer than Muse. I love Muse btw, Matthew is one of the best vocalists ever.
Never understood wearing glasses while you play. Drummers set their kit up so that it is in exactly the same place each night, everything angled to the "T" If something is off, only the drummer would now immediately. You actually could play your kit blindfolded. Luckily for him he is good enough that he can adjust his glasses and not miss a beat. Great drummer, one of the few that every time I see him I have to run to my kit to try (steal) something I have just seen him do. PS...luv the pop on his snare. One of the best snare sounds around.
If it wasn't for Deden Noy I wouldn't know who this band is & I use to b a hard core drummer like robt. I play so long id have to soak my ears 👂 in water after ever time I welled them. Wish I new what a camera was back in 03.
yeah i just watched a vid he said he kinda is lol its on this guys profile check it out. you dont have to listen to them before you start to be influenced by them
Dream Theater is not dead. Its just a new beginning. Even if MP leaves, there is still DT. We must give them a hand, they can do it, still with out Portnoy. Best wishes for Pornoy, but believe me, DT must continue. Copy/Paste if you a DT fan, and wish, to make this band still be alive.
Hello, I come from the future to give you the latest about Dream Theater. Their latest album, A View from the Top of the World is insanely good. Dream Theater is back
if you think mike portnoy needs some brushing up then u have issues....listen to the drum beats on some of DT's earlier stuf like metropolis part 1 then u will see how amazing this guy is
when the first time I hear this, my mind kinda " shit... this is the muse? then Portnoy confirm that this song was inspired by the muse. see the lesson video of this song
LOL are you aware when Portnoy stared drumming? He was self taugh with influences from MOON, BONHAM and especially PEART. He went to Berklee, made dream theater with Petrucci and Myung, and then Muse came. Muse is portnoy's influence? yeah don't make me laugh kid.
Actually he probably has been influenced by some of there stuff, rudess certainty has and mike actually lists two muses albums in his favorites, whats the big deal tho
@@flavy1000 Absolutely, I've had the chance to attend two Dream Theater concerts and he was stunning both times, but he certainly has too many bad days on record.
LET ME GET THIS ACROSS LOUD AND CLEAR- Now that I have your attention. Muse is not in ANYway Portnoy's influence. He has never mentioned it in any of his DVDs or on his interviews or website. It's merely perhaps the other way around. Muse is a band that came AFTER Dream Theater.
Veteran bands are influenced by new bands ALL THE TIME. In fact, MP just did a video on his channel reviewing his LPs where he said straight up that Muse influenced he and JP during this time. Stick that in your pipe.
and because when ur hand is wet u wont get blisters from the drum sticks. kuz if u play with dry hands, the stick will rub agenssed ur fingers and ur get blisters, well thats what happen's to me :D
Eh, I don't know what the fuck you people are talking about. Even if Muse was DT's influence, who cares? Watch the damn video. P.S. Muse had influences, too...
Some people are just showing their appreciation to the respect that bands showed to their influences. DT is a monster Prog Metal band, while Muse is a giant Alt rock/Hard rock band. Each band has their own set of influences, and they can be very dynamic & versatile.
Muse? Mike Portnoy's influence? hahahahh :D Nice one, Muse isn't even mentioned on his music profile on myspace, who the fuck Brought this nonsense to day light? xD

Leonel Cantú de Llano but this song is, like, too much influence, so much that its almost lame

Mike Portnoy makes sure that every single stroke on that kit be it the drums or cymbals or occasionally his head, all matters in his drumming.
The comment section is torn between "This song sounds like Muse's 'Stockholm Syndrome'" and "Shut up, we know it sounds like Muse".
but it does i got shocker wtf
shocked*
Well it is SS dressed as another song
efrazable that's why I love this song
I'm a huge muse fan but appreciate both songs. No hate :)
Portnoy is GOD among Drummers
Mike improvisa a cada momento y lo hace muy bien!
Those drums arent normal. This guy is got somesthing special. He is the best one.
One of MPs most interesting drum parts IMO.
agreed, and you only need one pedal for it
If you think this one sounds like Muse you should listen to Prophets of War.
mike ,, jadikan aku muridmu

I love it
I love when he replaces his glasses at 0.40 ;)
man it was never enough!
:40 YOU SEE THAT? he even has enough time to push his glasses up! TOO COOL FOR WORDS.
noticed that too, you catch him break a stick in the middle and grab one from behind him. Not once missing a beat, fuckin monster!

He is probably wearing glasses to keep the eye contact with other band members. Also being able to see audience better. Not for his kit.
Amazing..that moment mike's getting a new stick

Why did they speed it up at the beginning
It's like he sped up about 20bpm about a bar into the first main section. Poor John's fingers are on fire.
Portnoy does that all the time...
I think youre right
Legend
Thats just Octavarium. A lot of DT's music has sounded like this before Octavarium. So no matter how good both bands are, its not influenced by Muse.
MARIA!
this song have a Muse influence
when the first time I hear this, my mind kinda " shit... this is the muse? then Portnoy confirm that this song was inspired by the muse. see the lesson video of this song
