Great review as always. I have the JPX 923 hot metals (your review helped make up my mind to buy them) can't see me changing for a long time. They're great!!! Thanks Jay
Thank you Jay for another nice review. Ive been rocking the JPX SEL and I'm very satisfied with them. I like the old school lofts. I'm playing 4 through GW and I packed my old TopFlite Professional Plus 3 iron to complete it. I'm 66 year old and can still hit those irons!
There is a kind of pattern that the people wanting to comment about the looks, do so with a more negative vibe than positive about the aesthetics.... 👍
Obviously this is the only thing I'm allowed to be biased about and say that I agree 🤣 although I think I would love to have half the subs Rick has managed to accrue 😊👍🏻👍🏻 it would certainly make justifying the colossal amount of time spent on each video easier 😊😊
Great review, especially when comparing swing speed. Do we have any data on average swing speeds based on age? As I’m aging I’m wondering what model you should be considering for 75 up? I’m 75 next year so looking for help in forgiveness and distance? Also what other makes would you recommend consideration and for this golfer profile going forward.
Jay, thanks for all the reviews. At 77 yrs old, swinging around 65 mph at best, I’m a 923 HL user. My clubs have a senior flex graphite shaft. In your tests, even the slow swings are with a stiff , heavy (for me) steel shaft. Does that matter, or is it all about club head speed?
For me I'm very fortunate but to be shaft sensitive so even large changes in bend profile makes no difference to my delivery of the club. Most golfers are very bend profile specific so it's imperative they get the right adjust for optimal Iaunch conditions 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Jay, thank you so much for this review and the work that you've put into it , I was considering picking up the 923 HL but do you think there's that much of a difference between that one and the 925 HL ,am ready to make the purchase,Also I will be buying the combo set with the 5&6 hyfly hybrids and the 7thru the gw thanks so much, kind regards..
Love your videos and content Mr. Nut! I have a video request that I think may interest a lot of golfers in the JPX range: when the JPX 925 fli hi hybrids are released can you do a video comparing them to their iron equivalents? For example comparing the fli hy 5 hybrid to the JPX 925 hot metal 5 iron and so forth for the 7-4 hybrids? Many golfers suited for the JPX range of irons could really benefit from replacing the longer irons with their fli hi hybrid equivalents but I don't see a single video on RUclips doing this.
I also agree with you. No Fli Hi DLR clubs were included within the media samples. I've tried to get hold of mizuno to organise for even just a single club to be sent to compare against, but I can't get hold of anyone. Phone just rings and goes to voicemail 😐👍🏻
@Yadammm being honest it's difficult not to get frustrated when you've supported a brand for as many years through personal preference rather than any monetary benefit, for a change in personnel to turn a relationship a bit on its head... We'll see as time goes on 👍🏻
Some good swings Jay! Excellent and honest review as always... a lot of negativity around looks, I personally really like the looks of the pro's! (I'd game them).
Looks are always horses for courses, although it's a bold statement from Mizuno, although it was kind of a result of the engineering. They were always going or be left with certain aesthetics given the direction of it... 👍🏻
Will be looking very much forward to the individual reviews. For me the HMP's are prettiest, but I'm biased owning the 923HMP 😅 There is a point made by some, and I can confirm from my own experience, that you tend to hit smaller irons better, which is an actual advantage to the HMP'S compared to the other two 😊
Things move on I guess.... 😊 The amazing thing is that with the reduced lofts they have designed the CG to be lower and further back to keep launch high.... Engineering at its best, RandN playground 😊
Hi Jay, thank you so much for this review and the work that you've put into it , I was considering picking up the 923 HL but do you think there's that much of a difference between that one and the 925 HL ,am ready to make the purchase Thanks so much.
Direct comparison between the two in performance they are basically identical. Forgiveness advantage goes to the newer 925 but again it's not in itself in my view at least the single reason to change it upgrade. The big overriding reason to select the 925 is if you need custom fitting as the 923 irons are discontinued and no longer able to be fitted by Mizuno. Any online trailer fitting of the 923s are done by using old head stock. 👍
It'll blow your little socks off..... I still can't believe my Quad kept popping data out like it did... I kept changing golf clubs to check it to see if I need to reboot my Quad or me 🤣🤣
@@AskGolfNut just watched it. If u could do a video for just slow swinger with the HL. like just chop at it and see what it does (how old hackers play). My dads body is shot he shaft leans alot too. trying to get my Dad more vertical game im guessing 7 iron would be the lowest before he goes to his hybrids. wondering how much pop and if the wedge soles gonna make him chunk it. Could be the Ticket!
Great job, Jay. i like the idea of tungsten to help launch. I wish they didn't make them look like a polished Sim iron on the back though! I am happy they didn't go for any hollow heads in the JPX line. Their forging and cast models feel great in the JPX line so don't mess with the recipe!
I'm a great fan of if it's not broke don't fix it 😊 glad they concentrated on forgiveness as especially in the JPX line, their distance was always good so no need to keep on pushing that but the fact they have worked on making them ridiculously forgiving is great for normal golfers... Wait until you see the FULL Reviews where I properly test forgiveness 👍🏻
Absolutely love these videos and the data provided. Fantastic work. Question though: Any thoughts on why Cool Clubs robot testing shows big 15 yd drop off from center to med off center hits and we don't see it here? Also thinking of your Titleist fitting where distance irons weren't consistent. Would love your thoughts on that. Again, awesome videos!
Hi Daryl... On the Titleist thing, I'm not sure if you are thinking of the right video or channel but unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to test and review the Titleist irons. On the CC part, there are some similarities and also differences with the data collected by myself and CC. All I can say from my side is that the data I give comes straight from the launch monitor and therefore shows exactly what the Quad measured.... CC only shows us graphics with no actual transparent data attached to it... Until I see the transparent data I'll hold off commenting on the differences. All I know is my data is out there for viewers to see 🤷👍🏻👍🏻
It's really difficult for manufacturers when they come to changing the look of an iron to make it fairly vanilla to all golfers and commonly create a polarising opinion.... Personally it took me a little while to get used to new design, but I'm getting used to it now 😊
I play JPX923 Forged 5-PW, and despite my slow swing, my shots with 5-iron still hold the greens, because I do not deloft much. However, because of the very dry, hard and windy conditions in my area in the summer, I have always had a place in my bag for a low lofted iron around the 20° range. Not with the intention of hitting it into greens, but rather to hit it down fairways as far as possible and take advantage of the roll. I can keep such an iron straighter than any fairway wood or hybrid. Would the 4-iron of any of these 925 HM models be useful in this role of a driving iron or lay-up club?
i wouldnt. Im sure they tweaked it a bit but if u already have some HLs you are set. wish i could grab a 7-8-9-P of HLs for my dad. he likes his tour edge Ironwoods but his old graphite irons are more for chipping at this point. want him to get back some verticle game.
Great review Jay, as a senior with a swing speed of 70-74 mph, ball speed 93, average carry 135 yards and a launch of 23 degrees the HL model might be better than the Hotmetal. Tried the new AI 300 but did better with Paradym Smoke. So far my best numbers Srixon ZX4 and G430. Will be testing Wilson and Ping G730 and I530. So far finding that I lose distance with forged clubs.
It's a really hard thing when your swing speed is reducing as it just makes golf harder. It will come to us all at one point I guess. But good to know you are testing as many as you can to see if there are any unicorn clubs for you 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut I also wanted to mention that another great feature is Mizuno have no upcharge for graphite shafts and the hybrids same price as irons. The RRP of £150 is great value when you look at the competitors pricing going from £160-190 per club. The new JPX range now my front runner. Many thanks again Jay for the best reviews on u tube as only you feature slower swingers, bravo!
@@AskGolfNut ThanksJay as you say age comes to us all, but at least I’m walking and pushing my trolley and shooting between mid eighties and low nineties! Maybe the JPX 925 HL might do the trick!, although I launch at 23 degrees most clubs!
Personally I think you should only look in this range if you need the HL. Otherwise the 245s is just a better buy. Perfect blend of forged forgiveness (and look 100 times better)
Great review! Looking forward to your JPX 923 vs JPX 925 comparison, even though I'm not in the market for a new set anymore. IMO anyone of any swing speed who is looking for a game improvement iron should be looking at the Hot Metal HL over the standard Hot Metal. At 90+ MPH especially because the distance on the standard HM is just too far, you would be at or near 200 yards with the 7 iron which leaves massive gaps in the bottom of the bag and tighter gaps at 200+ yards where you don't need it. Zero people need a 7 iron less than 30 degrees. Two things about your ranking charts. First you put JPX923 instead of JPX925, probably excel autocorrect from before! Also, I think your ranks might be off for 90+ MPH. The HL is 3+2+3+3+3=14 and the regular HM is 2+3+2+1+2=10.
Yep you are right.... Blasted Excel... But the conclusions are right though as you have suggested above, the HL really is the undeniable winner of the bunch 👍🏻
Ah I remember now, the excel spreadsheet was tapped into the datasets so the Distance numbers was attached to longest being better, but as the 90 plus swing speed doesn't need extra distance I chose to edit them directly to show actually the least longest is actually more functional at high speeds.... That's what's caused the slight issue... Still the HL wins in nearly all situations...... Until you add the Looks column into it 😊😊👍🏻
Looking forward to the detailed reviews, Jay. I bought the 923 HM HL a while back after a good fitting session and your comments - my only criticism is the aesthetics - so many chips and marks makes them start to look quite bad. Performance wise, extremely happy. I may replace the irons next year depending how they look - I'm assuming that there will be little performance improvement from the 923 to the 925? Will be interesting to compare
The main difference really is the 925 irons have been designed with an improvement of forgiveness from off centre strikes in mind. the 923 did very well from toe strikes and the 925 hope to build on that and bring similar impressive toe strike numbers to heel and low on the face also 👍
I just watched your video discussing the 921 vs 923. At the time you said the 923 is almost maxed out technology wise. Interested to see what you think of the 925.
I think thats why Mizuno haven't gone down the extra distance route, I think they knew in the 923 that they made an iron that went as far as it could without dramatically compromising the design or workings of the iron. So now they are focusing on forgiveness forgiveness and more forgiveness 👍
There has been a recent flood of 923 sets 2nd hand online in the last month, those are going for roughly 50% of new prices. you can find the occasional 921 set for maybe 40% of new usually don't see sets drop below 30% new
Not sure until we get the new JPX925 Forged model to test it and see how it compares. I'd guess to say that it will be more forgiving going along the same design ethos as the JPX925 Hot Metal line of irons.... But until it comes along its difficult to really answer with any certainty 👍
I'm really interested in their forgiveness compared to the 923's. Especially since I just bought a brand new set of the 923's 4 months ago. Look's wise, I think the 923's look better. However results matter way more than look's. Just curious if you could do a side by side comparison. See if it could justify switching to the 925's or is the forgiveness small enough, to not worry with the upgrade. Love the channel by the way!
They aren't as yet released from their embargo. Only in Asia have they been released already so there is some info from there... For all US and EU reviews, unfortunately you'll have to wait until some point in January 👍
So the Hot Metal Pros are for nobody? I was fitted into the JPX923 HMP with a fairly average swing speed of 80-83 mid handicap. Good enough for me. But one problem i got is what are the proper wedge lofts to complement these strong lofted clubs? 43 PW to a standard 52 degree wedge is a massive gap.
So the HMP are for the person that wants all the help that the standard Hot Metal gives but in a slightly smaller aesthetically pleasing package. Thinner top line, sole thickness and off set amount. 👍
That's how the science of forgiveness works you have to put as much weight as possible on the perimeter, and without making them out of extremely expensive materials it can only be so narrow.
The FULL Review of the Hot Metal is dropping in about 15 minutes, wait until you see how well this iron does on the Forgiveness side of the video....... P.S I was having a bad swing day whilst filming 😂
Great review Jay. I have the 923hl model. Is there a significant difference to entice me to try the 925hl ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Smash that like button 👇
From a forgiveness standpoint yes, they do seem more helpful from more of the face. On distance etc etc it will be marginal being honest. Well worth a test when they are in the retail sector against your current, but depending on your strike consistency you may or may not see justifiable differences 👍🏻 👍🏻
No "Tour" or "Forged" models in the new JPX line? Mizuno's USA website has these new 925's, but when it comes to the "Tour" and "Forged," the website still features the 923. Mizuno doing away with these two versions, and trying to move fans of those into the "Players" line?
Not from what I've heard, but if we were to go by the same release pattern as previous, we will expect to see anything Forged in a JPX line coming early Jan 👍🏻
These are borderline FUGLY! I have no idea what the engineers from Mizuno were thinking when they designed the latest JPX series, but they obviously forgot their customers love their irons for their sleek profile, playability and buttery feel. This looks like something Cobra would have come out with. You won't be able to give these clubs away by the end of next summer. I'll continue gaming my JPX921's until something truly in-keeping with the brand comes out.
Deff a bit weird i wanna say they changed to it improve the sound and feel. maybe they had to to take em to the next level. Fuction over Form kinda like how Ping started. not Totally fugly but i deff get you.
No need to shout 😀 unless the caps lock is stuck on 😀 no official news on the Forged as yet, going by previous release patterns then I would expect the Forged to be very early 2025 👍
Also a pretty decent uplift in Forgiveness across the face.... All other performance aspects are fairly similar to that of the older 923. I'm currently editing an old vs new 923 vs 925 Hot Metal irons comparison review... Shows everything that you'll need to know 👍🏻
i also think they are a step back......a tweeked version of the 825's yip 825's no mizuno on the toe,a different insert....just my opinion of course i dont want anyone sharpening their knives😂...i know mizuno make excellent irons i've played the 64's but unfortunately i think they are just on course for a de- rail...only my opinion so i apologise to the mizuno purists......😂😂😂😊
There seems to be a pattern of comments about the looks of the new offerings being that of a slightly negative nature....Be interesting to see as time goes on what people think once they get used to the looks of them 🤔👍👍
May be not to everyone's taste, as its very much so subjective but, I must say that the Performance and Forgiveness though as something else.... wait for the full review of the Hot Metal dropping in about 15 minutes 👍
I think the 923's were better looking than the 921 irons, although the whole idea of feel and looks is so individual its difficult as a club manufacturer to get the balance right....👍
I personally didn't have any issue telling the 923s apart but then again it works both ways as they responded to the feedback on the T20 etc wedged with thd black number badge on the Chrome backing being very difficult it read... The T24s were much much easier to identify.... So sometimes it works for the best 👍🏻👍🏻

I enjoyed this. What is the earliest JPX out there for us 2nd hand cheap gits?
Well the JPX dates back to 800 days so you have a fair way back to go if you wanted to grab a 2nd hand bargain 😀👍
There has been a recent flood of 923 sets 2nd hand online in the last month, those are going for roughly 50% of new prices. you can find the occasional 921 set for maybe 40% of new usually don't see sets drop below 30% new
Keeping my jpx 919’s forged is there really a drastic difference in the succeeding models
I will defo be doing a 923 vs 925 hot metal compare 👍
Have you tested the 925 forged? I would like to see a test and comments. I did and favoured it.
They aren't as yet released from their embargo. Only in Asia have they been released already so there is some info from there... For all US and EU reviews, unfortunately you'll have to wait until some point in January 👍
I am in Japan and tried the 7 at a golf shop. Liked it but will custom shaft, which Mizuno says they can’t deliver until December at the earliest.
When will the forged and tour models be released?
Hi Dan, can't obviously say but if Mizuno keep to their previous release pattern then the Forged should be out in January 😉👍🏻
Well at least I can commit to 923 now
Take a look at my old vs new comparisons before you make a decision 👍👍
So the Hot Metal Pros are for nobody? I was fitted into the JPX923 HMP with a fairly average swing speed of 80-83 mid handicap. Good enough for me. But one problem i got is what are the proper wedge lofts to complement these strong lofted clubs? 43 PW to a standard 52 degree wedge is a massive gap.
So the HMP are for the person that wants all the help that the standard Hot Metal gives but in a slightly smaller aesthetically pleasing package. Thinner top line, sole thickness and off set amount. 👍
Why the chunky bezel like an old LCD TV?
That's how the science of forgiveness works you have to put as much weight as possible on the perimeter, and without making them out of extremely expensive materials it can only be so narrow.
@@andy_bickley yeah I know it still looks less than stellar, probably plays great though which is the most important thing
@@AskGolfNut Appreciate your honesty
No "Tour" or "Forged" models in the new JPX line? Mizuno's USA website has these new 925's, but when it comes to the "Tour" and "Forged," the website still features the 923. Mizuno doing away with these two versions, and trying to move fans of those into the "Players" line?
Not from what I've heard, but if we were to go by the same release pattern as previous, we will expect to see anything Forged in a JPX line coming early Jan 👍🏻
Is there a tour model?
I would love to be able to say but that info is still under embargo 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut do you know how long until it will be open to the public
Any forged models?
So far information suggests that new forged models will be in January 👍
WHAT ABOUT THE FORGED MODEL?
No need to shout 😀 unless the caps lock is stuck on 😀 no official news on the Forged as yet, going by previous release patterns then I would expect the Forged to be very early 2025 👍
had to change something ...the look! UGH
Mizuno should include headcovers w/these b/c they are that ugly. Yikes Thanks for the great content as always!
There seems to be a pattern of comments about the looks of the new offerings being that of a slightly negative nature....Be interesting to see as time goes on what people think once they get used to the looks of them 🤔👍👍
Garcia Joseph Johnson Richard Jones William
Rodriguez Anthony Lee Thomas Lee Sarah
Garcia Robert Williams Patricia Harris Kevin
Brown Nancy Wilson Kevin Thompson Linda
Robinson David Taylor Daniel Clark Laura
And the winner for the most confusing and pointless comment award goes to @PaulHernandez-d8i 🤔🤔
Walker Barbara Anderson Patricia Clark Mary
You've lost me on that comment 😀 went straight over my head 😀
Hall Susan Jones Linda Young Shirley
Again this is the 2nd comment that just spouts out random christian names..... You've lost me as to why?? 🤷🤷
Performance looks good but the iron is definitely ugly in my opinion.
Seems to be a fairly common comment, wondering how that will change over time as we get used to seeing them 🤷👍🏻
IRons can grow on you over time. Im leaning on they used a fugly shape because they founds some Improvments worth the tweak!
Not really eye candy…
May be not to everyone's taste, as its very much so subjective but, I must say that the Performance and Forgiveness though as something else.... wait for the full review of the Hot Metal dropping in about 15 minutes 👍
These are the ugliest Mizunos ever....What a travesty. They look worse than the irons from other US brands even.
a club looks the best when the ball is on the green.
@andrewbickley5271 now that is a very very true statement 👍🏻👍🏻
These are Japanese
I’m sorry, but these irons look hideous. The 923s and 921s looked the best.
I think the 923's were better looking than the 921 irons, although the whole idea of feel and looks is so individual its difficult as a club manufacturer to get the balance right....👍
The colourcodes are to ugly….. pitty Mizuno
