There are two Chinese moon satellites to relate signals from the far side of the moon, one (Magpie Bridge 1) was for Chang’e5 and the second was launched March 2024 for Chang’e6.
One engineering deserves attention is the Chinese flag Chang’e6 carries. It’s made from granite, smashed granite, form string about 1/3 of human hair thickness and weaves into fabric. The idea is using rich supply of moon granite to create moon base construction materials.

They seem to be masters of the forces at play to the point their simulation is exactly what will happen with no obvious diviation. Maybe, just maybe it partially comes down to how hard US children work in school, college and university compared to children in China especially on STEM subjects. In the West the STEM level has been dropping since forever and the teachers keep saying how wonderfully the children are progressing.
But I agree that US children are probably more knowledgeable on subjects like: Wokeness, Inclusivity, Presentation skills, and other skills that focus on how things look and feel rather than how things work. Some US children might even know how to read a book without pictures.
You might think that the US is ahead with A.I. The truth is that the A.I. engineers in the US are dominantly Asian students who prefer the bigger US computers and salaries for the moment. Once the computers in China are up to par with those in the US they will all leave and take the knowledge with them.

You go down that path of past transgressions every group has a problem, from African tribes to past Asian warlords, and let’s not even touch on Native American tribes who constantly warred and raped, stole and killed from each other. Are you going to claim every European immigrant from say 1910 is somehow responsible and “in possession” of stolen goods because some previous Europeans “stole” land (which is often an exaggeration of circumstance)? China's "solution" is just an Apollo type architecture. It will be capable of a boots and flags mission, but it will be totally inadequate for supplying a manned surface station.
And BTW Starship just landed the booster and the Starship. They are making rapid progress. We don't need to make the "Apollo mistake" of resorting to a small, quick and dirty system to land soonest, like we did in 1969. We need to do what we used to NOT do --- build a system for the long haul. Build the infrastructure to actually support a lunar base.
Your presentation of the Chinese Program looks more like a 1960s style propaganda enterprise to "beat the Americans" than a more rubust program, like Starship HLS or the reusable landers of other vendors.

    • @xponen
      @xponen Месяц назад

Apollo type architecture was the quickest way to send hardware on a one-way mission to the lunar surface. In contrast, programs like Starship, HLS, or reusable landers aim to send astronauts to lunar surface and back. These reusable systems have a payload penalty, meaning they can't leave as much hardware on the lunar surface, hence less infrastructure can be left on the lunar surface for permanent settlement.

I love the Angry Astronaut (he's got the smarts) but it's so distressing to hear him jump on the propaganda train, again and again and again.
Most of the current ideological lines are pure projection :
"China is an evil empire based on a military mindset" --> Who's been involved in sending weapons and troops all over the world, calling this "defense"?
"Russia is aiming to invade Europe" --> Who's been toppling democracies left and right since the end of WW2? Who surrounded China with military base after military base? Who claimed Russia would collapse after the sanctions and the US would walk in and divide the country into several smaller states?
"China is doing a genocide on the Uyghurs in Xinjiang" --> Thank God the US is not sending missiles to bomb Gaza every Wednesday!
When officials are scared China lands on the moon (and claim the land) they are actually saying "if it was us, we'd grab the land and not share it with China"
We really need to change our mindset. If we don't, the way it's going it's highly likely we're going to nuke the planet.

Take Star Trek for example. The crew had no monetary stimuli at all.

I wouldn't be praising Dream Chaser right now. Wait till it flies successfully. I've been wondering if it might have been better to keep the Shuttle flying unmanned rather than build the Delta 4. China will not want to lose any of that.
Besides, China is an old country with a vast history. Its people are resilient and hard-working. By contrast the US has little history, and only a fraction of that has any merit.
