    Your 2023 video inspired me to finally read One Piece. So over the year, I read through the whole series and got caught up just after Christmas. I'm really glad to have read through it! It's a very long series, but 100% worth it.

    Why is everyone bashing dawn for saying consumed? They literally ate all of these after watching/playing/reading them. Thats part of the enjoyment

    Like most years, there's a lot of movies that I remember watching more than dedicating series.But I hope to change that in 2025. For example comma I finally watched the first two seasons of breaking bad day during thanksgiving break, but I wasn't gripped enough to continue until the end of the series. But at least it gave me a little more understanding about storytelling, and why it became popular in the first place and also makes more sense about the memes that i've seen for the past decade.
    I've played a lot of games throughout the year. But there's two of them that easily come to mind in reflection. Ultimate Chicken Horse and The Typing of the Dead. The first one I played a lot on multiplayer with my friends on discord, because I kept having trouble connecting my Nintendo Switch to many first party games online. And while we had played lots of fall guys as a squad, we did want to move on to something else. I can't recall if I was the one to introduce ultimate chicken horse to the group, but it caught on very quickly. It's a multiplayer game that's about platforming to get from one end of the stage to the goal. The stages themselves vary in terms of landscape, but the they can vary even further, with the traps and platforms that players can place every round, as well as taking away previous ones. So think of it as a four person super mario maker. And even though I'm not great at platforming, I still have fun playing with them. I'm trying all combinations of gadgets on each course. We also had a lot of fun, unlocking new courses and even new animal player characters and outfits for them as well. We were determined to get my friend, Ben, the unlockables of a snake that rides on a skateboard and wearing a scarf. I don't know if there's a word or a phrase for it. But I really enjoy the feeling of creating your own goal within a video game even if it's two got an unlockable item. The last time I remember having a strong connection with that. And another player is when my younger sibling and I play lego rock band when we were determined to unlock a pterodactyl decoration for our band's garage. Cosmetic, but fun. And now we learned of a new game related to Ultimate Chicken Horse releasing soon, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon, which now puts players into karts and shows more possibilities for course clearing! Needless to say, we'll be playing.
    So, Typing of the Dead. If Abraham Lincoln can be vampire hunter, then Mavis Beacon can be a zombie and demon slayer. Ive played House of the Dead at least once over the past year in an arcade but known about it all my life. Its one piece of media that never bothered me with ita gore, even when i know things like the Saw franchise is alao a work of fiction. Im not sure if it was my constant typing at work that made me enjoy the game, or if the game had improved my speed and accuracy that i brought back to my everyday routine. Whichever the case, i had so much fun playing through this silly spinoff, knowing its not meant to be taken seriously at all, and even if i do mess up, i can still progress, which i cant say for lots of games. The punishment for error isnt severe, and ive already played it through at least 4 times now. And each one had a different string of words and ohrases which kept the gameplay on your toes inatead of being monotonous.
    Huh, not once have i mentioned Sonic yet, depite it being a huge year pushing Sonic media (Year of Shadow). I must be a fake fan, lol. To be honest, ive been trying to play through the games again, regardless of my hype for the 3rd movie and seeing a symphony concert in new york. My goal for this year is to 100% complete Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (whether on Steam, Xbox or GameCube) and Mario Kart Double Dash. I hold both games to such high regard over the past 2 decades, and i dont normally aim to complete games, lucky if i beat them. But as i had alot of reflection of the games i grew up with, more recent additions, and ones ive relinquished just to keep my head above water, it really got me to appreciate the less is more approach. I would rather see theough an enitre game than pick at 3 or 4 without resolution. As long as the game grips me, i shoukd atick to seeing it through. Just around new years i played Sonic Superstars for my first time. I was happy to put a vouple hours into it, but once the controller went down, it didnt come back up for sevetal days. Aside from other obligations, i had ample time to see this through. And now, as i write this comment, i renewed it for one more week at the library in the hopes to see it to the end. And if i dont, i can always rent it again.

    The biggest pieces of media for me this year were FF 10, the original Gundam, and Atlanta. These were 3 pieces of very acclaimed and influential media that I had wanted to engage with for a long time and I’m very glad I finally did; especially Gundam. It’s wild how much that show holds up from an artistic standpoint (the animation is limited but still very impactful and done well) and its story, which is absolutely amazing, with one of the best endings I have ever seen.

    I know it's a bit different from what you talked about, but I found out about the Daicon IV animation done by a lot of the Gainax folk (including Hideaki Anno) before they became Gainax. It blew my mind with how cool it was along with the use of ELO's "Prologue" and "Twilight".
    Also revisited a bunch of the Wallace & Gromit shorts and found out about the musical project "Ginger Root". Even got to see them in concert, too.
    I've still got a lot that I want to look at, though.

    I also started Dungeon Meshi earlier this year, coincidentally.

    One of my 2024 favorites was experiencing Sonic Adventure 2 for the very first time. It blew my MIND!! My expectations were not high bc i was meh on Adventure 1, but WOW. It was really just better than the first in every way. I finally understand why people love Shadow now, and - like a lot of autistic people - he is one of my big hyperfixations, hehe. I played the game in October, but I already have a nice collection of cute Shadow stuff, hehe! My family definitely paid attention to this and got me a Shadow squishmallow along with Shadow Generations. (Shadow Generations and Sonic 3 were also amazing obv).

    I played some pretty similar games to you this year as I also played penny's big breakaway (and loved it), TTYD & while I didn't play either of the first two ape escapes in 2024, I played Ape escape 3 for the first time last year.

    • @DrTotoHex
      @DrTotoHex 5 дней назад +3

      @@paperdawn I think zoomers have associated the word "media" with how news media is often called the "media," like "Don't trust the Media" or "This event was picked up by the Media."
      That's my guess at least. But it's pretty dumb since media comes from the word "medium" which literally means anything that conveys art or information. It doesn't just mean the news media. Anyway, you're using the word correctly and some people need to learn reading comprehension.
