That might be my favourite intro so far, despite it being so simple! I loved Matt's genuine reaction when he got tossed the first ricochet bullet. Also, as soon as he said it was salty after licking the block I actually said out loud "and leaded!"

Might as well just use an SKS with Rifle Grenades and a real launch cartridge and do it from your shoulder. Either that 4-bore or the SKS setup would dislocate my shoulder. ALWAYS shoot RG's from the hip, a real launch round pushes that rifle back like 2 foot!

The camera work, visual editing and sound mixing on that intro are underrated. The basic effect is simple, but you took it to a greater level with those angles and the eventual zoom out. Respect.

Pachmyr made a single shot version for a 1911 called the Dominator. With a muzzle brake and scope it is practical. Unlike those that break open the conversion has a little tab that serves as a bolt action. You have both safeties of the 1911 and an additional one that blocks the hammer after a new round is chambered. It freaks out the Glock guys.
That was definitely one of my favorite intros yet. Haven’t seen VetRanch Matt in a while.

This might be your best intro ever. P.S 14:33 looks so sick. I think camera guy found the perfect way to film someone shooting long range. You can see the shockwave from the bullet and the striking of the target perfectly, yet you can still see Matt's hands and the gun.

I remember when those 308's came out for the 1911, They were called the Pachmayr Dominator, they were a bolt action, more or less. Very Punishing Gun, as Matt found out. Built in 1984-85. The one Matt has here is a Tilt barrel like the Thompson Centre Contender.
Anything with a lot of power built on a 1911 frame sucks, because whether people want to admit it or not, the 1911 grip is hot garbage.

@@Skinflaps_MeatslapperI would argue that anything with MORE power than the originally intended cartridge can make the 1911 less than fun to shoot. For example, the 308.
@@hammettsean2 Sure, nothing wrong with that statement. I would argue that anything equal to or less than the .45acp is less fun to shoot with a 1911 than in a gun designed with better ergonomics in mind. Like shooting a 1911 with a .22LR conversion is far less enjoyable than shooting .22LR from a FWB AW93, or a .32WC from a 1911 vs a Hammerli SP20, or a 9mm 1911 vs a SIG P210. A better designed gun would also be more fun to shoot larger cartridges with as well, compared to the 1911.
I agree, but some rounds are much more enjoyable in a 1911, and even more enjoyable to shoot than the .45 ACP. The 10mm, and .38 Super are two examples. The 10mm takes the cake for me on best 1911 cartridge, with second place being a toss up between .45 acp, and 38 Super. I’d probably go with .45 on it though since ammunition is much easier to find than 38S
It’s great to see people experience these types of firearms for the first time. If you are interested in true hand cannons and handguns chambered for rifle rounds. Do some research into IHMSA silhouette. Shooters repeatedly shoot 40x40 scores with iron sights with targets at distances from 50-200 meters. This sport is where cartridges like the 454 Casull and 475 Liengbhau originated.

The range idea is great! And maybe encourage people to bring their own strange or rare guns and you could maybe do some filming of said strange guns, and make a montage show or something... And I will say that it would be cool if you had a range with more than just paper targets.

My brother had an XP100 modded by Sullivan chambered in .308 he used for steel silhouettes. He finally had to put about an inch-thick pad of gauze in his shooting glove because it actually split the web of the thumb. He downloaded for the turkeys partly because of that and the range master asked him to do it because his turkeys were both being destroyed and flying so far they were actually hard to find sometimes, lol! Since he downloaded for the turkeys he decided he'd up the load a tiny bit for the boars. Once he hit the boar target on the edge of its rear footplate and still knocked it over.
The great thing about the Thompson contender is the number of rounds the barrels or chambered. I used the seven TCU for silhouette competitions and it’s awesome. The 223 barrel was like the one that you used but it wasn’t very accurate at 200 yards, even for rams. The fifty-five and sixty-three-grain bullets didn’t have enough oomph to knock over rams at that distance, either. The .223’s great achievement was clearing the indoor range with its muzzle blast and report. What’s awesome is shooting the same pistol chambered in .35 Remington, also at the silhouette range. You stand up to the line, draw down on a chicken, and you suddenly get religion. Get one shot off and you ask your spotter how many more rounds you have to go and he says “thirty-nine,” and all you can say is “Christ.”
My uncle had a TC Contender in 30-06. It was always entertaining to watch friends and family shoot it for the first time 🤣

About 20 years ago I was working with a guy who came in to work one day with a big bandage on his left wrist. He was out shooting a 45/70 and shot an old sign (he said he had it hanging at his range on his property, but…. Who knows) and the bullet hit the metal sign, and stripped the copper jacket off the bullet. The lead punched through the sign and continued on, but the copper jacket shot straight back at him and lodged in his left arm. Apparently it penetrated about 3/4” of flesh, kinda skirting his wrist bones. Anyway, the 25acp has nothing like 45/70 horsepower, but jacket fragments can really cause problems if the round has enough power.

This is really cool, having been able to go and shoot a 1911/any hand gun for the first time today. Had a blast doing it, mag dumping and having fun.
I think you just demonstrated why ablative armor works so well at stopping bullets.
The intro is basically Demolition Ranch: Enter the Mattverse and I love it. TBH you should totally do a little miniseries of vids shot like that where you have the vet mat examine ballistics gel targets that you shoot while offtheranch matt comments on the progress of the channel and the ranch in the background just like totally obsessed with filming himself and talking to the camera (as a gag), while you shoot ballistics gel targets. Basically a "what if Matt had clones" twilight zone style thing. I for one think it's a brilliant idea, but I'm also an idiot on the internet so take it or leave it.
After seeing the timed 3 shots on target I want to see Ian show up with one of these at a backup gun match.
I like the range idea but you're gonna have to set it up right by having instructors, security, a lawyer and all that stuff but I imagine it could be pretty popular and profitable. The Demolita Range has a nice ring to it, attach a gift shop featuring your shirts and various products, get some sponsors to fund the start up, get in touch with Brandon (Ak guy) and pre-order an Ak-50 for it so you offer something at your range no one else is gonna have, it'd be really cool.

It sounds like a super cool idea for sure, I would imagine people like Scott from Kentucky Ballistics and Brandon from AK Guy would get in on the idea too and maybe offer some of their weapons (Brandon in mind has loads of unique shit like the MP5 and the KP-9 and Scott with that long ass 50 S&W)
Don't know if you noticed but in the last shot of you with the two pistols on the table, the 308 barrel looked bent to one side of the lower . Maybe it's just my eyes, but it might explain the shots deviating so far to the right 😮

As far as ranges, I haven't gotten much time in since the Lapeer pit closed. Range USA has been my go to lately but they have been getting more ridiculous with their new rules and restrictions so I've been going less. Need to move out of the city and get me some property haha.

He has a really old video on off the ranch where he describes the entire plan. Now that he has the land he will have to adjust it to fit the property, but it is going to be a huge project
Hey Matt, I have been a subscriber on demolition ranch since you were making the original homemade shotgun shells videos. And four years ago you posted a video that got my hopes up. You started throwing around the idea of demolition ranch IRL. With ranges and a camp ground etc. and I haven’t heard anything else about it until now. This needs to happen!!! AMERICA needs this wonderful place!!! If you need ideas, I highly suggest you check out CMP Talladega marksmanship park in Alabama. It's my home range that I have been going to for years and it is one of the most technologically advanced ranges in America. But I believe DEMO IRL will be 100x better. And if this happens, I will do everything in my power to be one of your first customers. I also just want to say thank you because watching your family and channels grow over the years has gotten me through some really dark times, and your videos have always been there for me. I would give anything just to come shoot with you one day. I'm got married on November 11th 2022 and I can't wait to have my own family just as beautiful as yours. So thanks for everything man.

Many times the fireball is between frames so it doesn’t show on camera.
Yeah the fireball was bright on the 556 but the 308 seemed non existent

Actually, since Matt is a gun RUclipsr, most of his videos don't make any money. His RUclips probably only brings in $75k-$100k a year. Which is still very good but it's not millions.

That salt is super impressive at absorption of the impact and spreading it in the forms of the cracks. Pretty insane.
I would 100% try out some of my dream guns at a range of yours. I think there would be a pretty big market for it. Especially at the resort where the guys can shoot and the women can do anything else(if they aren’t shooters).

If you have some plastic containers in the shape of chest plate armor, I'm wondering how it would compare if you have the container filled with rock salt? It seems the rock salt is a pretty good bullet stop. Remember in the movie "Tremors" when the guy mentions that dirt is the best bullet stop there is? Maybe rock salt could be recrystallized in a container and made to custom shapes?
