    If you don't mind me asking what are the pros and cons to abeka arithmetic 1 in your opinion? How long does it take each day? And what learning style does it implement? I'm trying to determine if abeka arithmetic or bju press distance learning is best for my 1st grader. I'm having such a hard time deciding 😫 I will most likely use whatever curriculum I choose for 1st and 2nd grade then move on to teaching textbooks as they do not begin until 3rd grade

      Hi Elizabeth. Lol. I know how you feel. Choosing a curriculum is so draining. 😬 So with Abeka they have the spiral learning style. They teach something for a while and then they move on. They will learn a new concept and then after doing that for awhile they will revisit the previous concept. The arithmetic lesson is about 40 mins and than it takes about 10 mins to complete the worksheet. Pros and cons (in my opinion) honestly, the videos get repetitive and they are long. But on the other hand you can adjust things to fit your child and yourself. You can have her watch the videos when they are learning a new concept and than do parent led for the next few lessons. That always helps my daughter. My daughter has truly learned so much. So To me, the repetitiveness is ok. But again you can make adjustments when needed. Aweee, the joys of homeschooling 😊

    Also I have a 1st grade and K5. The first grader is sharing phonics with my K5 student however the math and the electives( community helpers, health Safety and manners extra....) are 1st grade work. How do I manage this for planning lessons!! Helllp!!!

    Good evening! My daughter will be entering first grade this upcoming school year we will be doing the parent led. I am having a problem understanding what u should order. I know she needs the student kit but I don't know if I need the essential parent kit or the complete parent kit?! Could someone help me with what you feel is best? I also see that neither parent kit comes with a language arts answer key do I need that or no?

    Do you use any of the charts or flash cards that the arithmetic one comes with? I'm considering switching to abeka arithmetic 1, but I'm trying to decide if I should do the whole homeschool bundle or if I should just buy pieces of it.

      Tiffany L Hi Tiffany. I do have the charts and I also have some flash cards. I did a Homeschool Cart Video that is on my channel that shows the arithmetic F/C and I will be uploading a video for my daughter’s Binders that have her charts (cheat sheets) tomorrow. That may help you visualize what you will need. I personally did the whole curriculum and bought those on the side, just because I’m that type of person. Always worried I’m not doing enough. 🙄 ugh! I hope this helps.

    Thanks for sharing this, I’m going to buy it, but I wanted to ask you how important/necessary are the lesson plans and flashcards/charts, etc?

    • @simplyhomeschool18

      Hi Alma. If you are specifically just doing the arithmetic with Abeka and not the full curriculum, you can totally choose your add ons. We did the full curriculum with the videos so it came with the video manual (which basically just shows what lesson the teacher will do with your child, lessons and test #s. Now if you are parent led you may want to get the teacher manual. I’m not exactly sure how in depth it goes because I haven’t purchased it. Personally though, I think you would do just fine teaching your child without it. Since the math is at a really simple and fun level. I think it would be easy enough for you to explain her new concepts without the help of a teacher manual. You can always make it more hands on fun and use manipulatives and math games. But I will say, we have the charts and my daughter really put good use to them. I want to say they are for 1st and 2nd grade levels. So you can always use them next year as well. I have a video showing what I have for charts if you want to see what they come with. If you have a printer you can always print out your own addition and subtraction family charts if you want to save a little money. 🤗 I hope this answers your question and doesn’t make you more confused 🤪

      Alma by the way the video is called Our Homeschool Binder, Charts and Cheat Sheet Binder. It is my 2nd graders but all the Charts are for 1st and 2nd grade. 😊

    What lesson does K5 review end and 1st grade material begin? My student did Abeka K5 math last year in private school, and this year I am blessed to homeschool her, but I wanted to switch to Horizons. She loves animals (most kids do), and therefore she begged me to continue using the curriculum from her private school (only math though). I just wonder how much new material is taught.
    You did a great review and flip through. I appreciate the time that you put into this video.
    Thank you!!!

      Hi ilana925 I would say it’s around 3-4 weeks. But Abeka does spiral learning, so she will learn a concept, move on to something else, and then go back to the same concept. ☺️ I hope this helps.

    When should we start this in order to have the seasons match up like fall, winter, Christmas etc?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  3 года назад +1

      Hi Sara. Abeka states that a start date around August 9th would keep you aligned with the seasons. I would check the dates verse the lessons to be sure.

    • @simplyhomeschool18

      She will need to know how to count and write her numbers. They only touch on writing the numbers a little bit at the beginning ok the book. They will start learning addition and subtraction. 😊
