I have almost 6 year old twins that are coming from master-books first grade math and language arts. (Working on 2nd grade math now) I can’t decide if the first grade Abeka will be too vigorous for them and was debating getting K5 instead. If your familiar with 1st grade MB I’d love your opinion. I feel like I’ll be switching from one extreme to the other as far as work load goes lol. They’re just bored and not challenged.

Hi Lady Cain. So I don’t have any experience with MB, but I have an Abeka Arithmetic grade 1 Flip through. You can find it on my channel under 1st Grade Playlist. You will be able to see exactly what is taught throughout all of 1st grade. I unfortunately don’t have a flip through of K5 but I do know they recognize, count and write numbers and number concepts 1-100. They memorize addition facts up through the number 10. Identify what numbers come before and after any number 1-100. They understand the largest and smallest number from 1-100. They learn how to do 1 step story problems with addition. They begin to learn about early subtraction. I hope this helps you. 😉

How long do the video lessons/seat work take? Would a first grader be able to finish school in a half day?

Hi Logan Hill. If you start at 8 you can be done around 12-1. If your child is focused and doesn’t play around. ☺️

I plan to start Abeka in August for my 5yo. She will be 6 in October. We were going to do unaccredited k5 (cursive), however I'm wondering if she should start with the 1st grade curriculum. She was in a Private Montessori from 14mo until this past January. She reads Bob Books, Early Readers, does basic math, writing and cursive. Do you think I should consider starting her on 1st grade? I'll be doing the videos with whatever I choose, not parent lead. Thanks for any feedback!

Mindy A Hi. I have heard that other moms have skipped K5 and went straight into 1st with their kiddos. Abeka is know to be, about a grade ahead. I have flip through videos of the books from the first grade curriculum on my channel. It is under 1st grade playlist. The videos literally show you inside each book. That may help you determine if she is ready for the 1st grade. I hope this helps. 😉

Hello! I have 6 years old quadruplets and I am
Planning to start 1st grade using Abeka. Can I order one curriculum and 4 of each of these books that they will use? Also, how many subjects a day do we need to cover at this age? Thank you for this video, I will check out more videos you have!

Hi Loredana! Wow, quads you’re a “real” supermom. 💕 My best advice would be to talk to one of the reps at Abeka. I’m not sure what the best option would be for you. It depends on a lot of factors. If you are doing the academy or parent led. Things like that. They may be able to figure out a way to save money for you. With the subjects per day, you may want to look up the laws in your state for their rules. I hope this helps! 🤗

When I called and inquired about homeschool through abeka the guy told me each course had 10 paces, are they all in one book for each subject

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  2 года назад

Hi Regina. Most subjects have a student book, student test book, and teacher keys for both. If you purchase a full curriculum package then it will have all subject daily guides within it and all of the information on how to grade.

Do you get to keep everything aside from the DVDs that need to be returned?

Aracely Cervantes Hi! Are you planning on teaching the 2 at the same time? If yes than all you would just need a 2nd set of consumables. If you are teaching one now and one next year, and are planning to teach with the videos, then I would say, you will want to purchase the kit again. It will end up costing you more to buy or pretty close to the same for all the consumables and the rental of the dvds.

My daughter is a little behind. Do you think 5 hours of daily curriculum would be too overwhelming? Is there any way to lower the daily curriculum time? Do all of the books have to be used in a single day? It seems intense for a 1st grader.

Hi! Are you planning to do parent led? If you are, you can totally tailor it to fit your kiddo.
Also, I wouldn’t stress about your kiddo being behind. That’s the beauty of homeschooling, you can make a curriculum fit your kiddos level and not the other way around. 😉💖 Prayers for you on your new adventure.

Would you recommend letters and sounds grade 2 for a child who is having a little trouble in language in phonics or would you recommend another book in abeka (I forget the same name of their other seatwork book)? I would also be careful with Abekas history book. They seem to take a more public school approach with it. By this I mean they teach that Columbus discovered America and they paint him in a good light. I hope you know the truth!

Hi Denise Johnson. The Letter and Sounds is a work book with seatwork and classwork. They also have a language workbook. Now I am not s professional, but they have a book called, “ Handbook for Reading”. That book is awesome for teaching phonic sounds. That book is used for 1st-3rd grade. And I wasn’t aware of their History. I haven’t noticed anything yet. But I will definitely keep my eyes open. Can you recommend a good History Book?

Hi Denise Johnson. And YES, my house is in order!

Oh my goodness I meant to mention that the Handbook for Reading goes hand in hand with what the kids are learning in the Letters and Sounds and the language workbooks. If you feel like he would do better with the 1st Grade Reading I would just stick with that until he gets more comfortable with reading. Hopefully I was helpful 😊 Have a blessed weekend!
