Abba pioneered the video clip. Agnetha had young children and didn’t want to tour so much. The video clip was perfect to get their faces out there. Lasse Hallstrom was the director of their clips. He made movies like ‘chocolate’ , ‘the shipping news’. The cider house rules’ to name a few.

50+ years ago. ABBA was not only popular but were groundbreaking as artists. Their music was always upbeat and happy. You want to know how it made me feel? Always happy and ready to dance. They were OG for music videos for which there was no outlet until MTV. Us Baby Boomers were hitting our stride and happy to dance along with ABBA ❤

The first time this was performed was at a show that was part of the celebrations of the wedding of the king of Sweden. The show was the night before the wedding, so Silvia was not yet a queen. But it was first performed for a real queen-to-be.
Frida later married a friend of the king, and is now among the friends of the royal couple.

great song from a great band and a great reaction. love me some ABBA! yes these were 2 married couples from Sweden. the red head/brunette married the pianist and the blonde married the guitarist. the name ABBA come from the initials of their first names
    Agnethea blonde girl
    Bjorn guitarist
    Benny pianist
Ani-Frid aka Frida red haired girl
the guys wrote all their songs and played many instruments and did back up vocals. the girls bothe had fabulous voices especially Frida who was trained in opera and jazz. they took turns on lead songs or as in this one harmonized together. that was often called ABBAs third voice. no one harmonized like Frida and Agnethea.. and yes especially Frida loved to dance and move on stage. she took professional dance lessons 5 days a week and her teacher said she could have done it professionaly. please do more ABBA. try one of their other hits Fernando, Money Money Money, Name Of The Game, . remember there was no Mtv or anything like that back then. these videos were called promos to promote their albums. they were one of the first to do it.. I love you noticed how they replied on pure talent not distractions like naked women, fancy get ups, or back up dancers. they did it all themselves

Dancing Queen did what it said on the tin, it got everyone up and dancing in discos, at weddings, at parties. Tbh that's why we loved Abba, they made music that made you smile and feel good. They also did some amazing slow songs, like 'The Winner takes it all' which was done when Agnetha (blonde one) and Bjorn's marriage was ending. The group ultimately split because Agnetha didn't like being away from their children and she was never comfortable with all the fame and attention.

Agnetha and Frida had solo songs, but their united voice, like on this song, was a miraculous thing. They blended perfectly. Frida’s voice was lower, so she adds power to the lower parts of the song, and Agnetha had the higher voice, adding richness when they sang high. Put them together, and you get songs like this with ridiculously wide ranges. And remember, no pitch correction in 70s! They just sang amazingly in tune.

I became a fan of Abba in 1975 when I heard SOS and Mamma Mia. And I've loved them ever since. The incredible thing about Abba is that they broke up in 1982 after just 10 years as a group, and then 39 years later (in 2021) they came back and put out a new album. And they sounded as great as ever. A fantastic song from that album (called Voyage) that you could do is Don't Shut Me Down. Also great from that is I Still Have Faith in You. Hearing them come back was so emotional for me. And it gave me a hopeful feeling that had been missing. Other classic hits I'd recommend would be Knowing Me Knowing You, Mamma Mia, Voulez-Vous, Take a Chance on Me, and the Winner Takes it All. But there are dozens more. I hope you keep going with them.

Disco was entirely about dancing. It was an almost all-consuming explosion. In fact, the later rise of Acid House and, indeed, what goes on today, feels almost parochial by comparison. Incidentally, this track was inspired by George McCrae's huge 1974 hit 'Rock your Baby' - which is worthy of its own reaction.

This takes me back to extreme childhood. There was an assertion made at one point that ABBA were Sweden's biggest export after Volvo. Which tracks. This was a transatlantic No.1 (the only time they made serious headway in the US), but they were much bigger in Britain - scoring 9 chart-topping singles and 10 No.1 albums. And yet, for all that, they seemed to have zero 'cool'. If I talk to older cousins, they are almost contemptuous of them. But the stats talk for themselves.

  • @eduardooscar309

Remember that ABBA is the iconic Swedish pop quartet, the best, most versatile and most important of the 70s, in the post BEATLES decade (the revolutionary group of the 60s)
ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, was a musical and cultural phenomenon, and its legacy lives on
remember that ABBA is an acrostic with initials of their first names; initialy They was two couples:
A- Agnetha (blonde lead vocal) &
    B- Björn (guitarist and songwriter)
B- Benny (pianist and songwriter) &
A- Anni Frid (brunette lead vocal)
(both couples separated before the breakup of the group in 1982)
"Dancing Queen" (1976) is a beautiful song, which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies
the blonde singer Agnetha is soprano voice,
the brunette singer Frida is mezzo soprano voice,
and blending together made the famous and fantastic 'third voice of ABBA'
And the music is bright and enveloping, from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco and invites you to dance
English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most, because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen)
And in 2015 "Dancing Queen" was included in the Hall of Fame of Rock and Roll music
ABBA recording between 1972/1982, have a wonderful series of more than 20 worldwide hits (and also 50 another great songs), included nine #1 in UK:
    Waterloo
    Mamma Mia
    Fernando
    Dancing Queen
    Knowing me knowing you
    The name of the game
    Take a chance on me
    The winner takes it all
    Super trouper
And after more than 35 years ABBA return to studio in 2017 and recording a full new album "Voyage" between 2017/2021 released in November 2021 and is a worldwide succes
ABBA begin to be famous in 1974, when They won the Eurovision Song Contest in UK with their iconic song "Waterloo"
Last April 2024 was their 50th anniversary and Eurovisión gives a tribute to ABBA and Waterloo
Muy suggestion Is to react the live perfomance of ABBA ay Eurovisión in Brighton UK 1974
I hope to see more reactions to ABBA
    GOD bless you
    my best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷

I have always found this song so mournful. I would weep as a burgeoning gay youth when it came on the radio in Canada. I guess it has something to do with the contrasting piano chord descensions and the string ascensions. It was in the mid/late seventies when the song was released. Thing always came to us a little late in western Canada.

    Jayf,
Dancing with singing and videos and a lot in movies went back to at least the 40’s maybe even further. Hung Crosby and bob hope in white Christmas, a lot of the big musical with great big numbers of dancers and actors singing and dancing, singing in the rain bug dance and sing movie, then to the fifties with Elvis jailhouse rock that you can find to react to. But all throughout the 50’s with doo wops, music out of Motown with the girl groups and the boy quartets many of the black singers, dancer, and musicians. And Michael Jackson and the Jackson five just did things live with choreographied dancing. The temptations a black group were in there. Gladys night and her pips family members were her backup singers and dancers. Music videos all had dancing from the very early start on MTV And VH1. Janet Jackson Paula Abdul and Madonna all had dancing and singing and dancing videos. You’re young and your channel is young so you may not have gotten into the catalogues of singers with dancing groiups. It’s all out there to find on you tube. Elvis has black hair. Did you know he was born a tow headed white blond boy? He never kpliked that and out black shoe police on his hair. Elvis even after movies and a strong career was drafted like bts and served in the military in Germany for I think three years. There’s just a lot of dancers after the fifties with the twist and rock coming about.

videos were not really quite a thing yet, they were more concert clips, or performance clips at this time and the dancing thing was natural...many groups did synchronized moves...i am sure you will start seeing it when you get into more of the 50's 60's group singers like the Shirelles, the four tops et al...music videos we not as much a form for selling music until the 70's...and yes by then sexualizing people became more of a thing in videos because as we all know sex sells💗
Abba in my life was road trip music, we had the readers digest box set on tape, and whenever we travelled we listened to it, because it was the only music the family could agree on to hear, whenever we couldn't find good radio transmissions...ohh just realized you also never had to deal with trying to find a radio channel in a car while travelling 😂😊

In '50's/60's acts had quite fun with their synchronised dance moves. There was a charm that now has left a fine nostalgic retro feeling ,most of it in dreamy black n white vision.Yet i loved Abba's kinda "non-marionettic" dance moves. They still looked adorably cute. What i couldn't relate was what followed later decades that got out of hands imo.All i could see in late MTV and after were acts doing same dance routines with dancers behind moving like marionettes or (if i get caustic) ... even jumping up n down like monkeys at times, which really made me get fed up of all this scenery. It still repeats today in many 'live' shows apart from some decent exceptions who don't overdo it or do it 'well 'etc.So Abba was fine by me just the way they were.

I personally feel more 'confident" when the reactors start with the big ones but sometimes it's a good way to know the whole progress of an artist.Btw I'm a first time visitor to this channel and i'm kinda wondering why there's no reply or even a sign of response to none of our comments. No interaction at all?I was sent his reaction by another fan to watch this but i would be more pleased if there was some typical awareness and communication in order to even subscribe and support the guy.Dunno maybe its his policy.

@@alexioverdo5225 Most reactors do the big ones (and mostly the ones from Agnetha) at first so it would be a nice alternation when one reacts to their songs in chronological order so that we can see more reactions than only TWTIA, Chiquitita, Gimme x3, SOS, DQ, Mamma Mia, KMKY, MMM or TACOM. Even though I love ABBA it gets boring to see always reactions for the same few songs...

I'm sure it's been in multiple movies over the years (it's a very popular song) but if you've seen Mamma Mia, it's in that. As a matter of fact all the songs in Mamma Mia are Abba songs. They took something like 18 (?) of their songs and created a storyline for the musical based on the songs. I never watched the movie but I saw the musical a couple of times in the theater and it's a really fun show. And the soundtrack is of course great.

Abba gained widespread popularity with several hit songs, and as dance music started to rise, they decided to join the trend. Their first foray into the genre was "Dancing Queen," which is now regarded by many as the greatest dance song of all time. Later, after their breakup, they produced what is often considered the greatest breakup song ever.

    Enjoy.
From an Original Fan of ABBA since they won the Eurovision Song Contest way back in 1974 and then I had the privilege to see them Live in London, November 6th 1979.
They only did two world tours, 1st in 1977 then again in 1979.
Tickets to their Concerts were like Gold Dust, the did 5 Consecutive Nights in London and all sold out (they were the first Band to do 5 Consecutive sell-out nights) the demand for Tickets was so high it's estimated that had the met demand for tickets then they would have been at Wembley for up to 6 Months
    A, Agnetha (Blonde)
    B, Bjorn (Guitar/song writer)
    B, Benny (Keyboards, music writer)
A, Anni-Frid (Brunette, also known as Frida) my favourite 💥❤️

ABBA's music is so popular that there wss a Broadway musical, "MAMA MIA", written to incorporate all of their music. A movie was then made from the musical, " MAMA MIA" .with a second one, "MAMA MIA, HERE WE GO AGAIN", that included the songs not heard in the first one. The sequel included CHER singing one of ABBA's mostbiconicbsongs, " Fernando". The movies must be seen in order 1 then 2 in order to understand the story and the characters. Both are worth the watch. You will want to get up and dance while wstching them.
