There are 100,000 songs with lyrics that say less than this song
There are lyrics in this song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The words are actually important
@@jamesbondbond8388 there’s spoken words from the band’s “roadies.” That’s not what I meant. Perhaps I should have said sung lyrics?
@@jamesbondbond8388Calm down. It's a question of semantics. You knew what he meant, why do you need to emphasize that you're technically correct with 57 exclamation points?
this is a three part song. fear of dying, coming to the realization of dying, and accepting death as a blessing.
beautifully said.
I call this pure female soul. I love it! My hat is off to Pink Floyd for giving these ladies a platform to display their beautiful voices.
How incredibly well put
i've been listening to this song since the 80"s and i still get chills every single time , i read a quote one time saying , it's basically a saxophone solo
I adore Sam Brown 🥰
her first album i played and played and played for years lol
I was lucky enough to be at this concert...........this made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.....amazing, and beaten only by the original recording by Clare Torry.
The original song was done by one singer, Clare Torry, in 2 takes. They asked her to interpret the 5 stages of death vocally.
✌️❤️
Correct! The beginning the living and the ending of life! There are 5 in there somewhere! lol
It's not an interpretation of a life time, just the 5 stages of death, starting with processing the idea that you're dying, and ending with the soul's ascension.
The entire pulse concert is like this, every song is moving fantastic and excellent talent all together just having fun
Yes! I bought the DVD of PULSE and it's perfect for jigsaw puzzles and 420 😜
pulse may be the best concert footage ever.
Without a question, I also like Celebration Day and Stop Making Sense...
Named in homage to two old black blues musicians from North Carolina, USA, "PINK Anderson and "FLOYD" Council. The band as drawn to their raw, blues sound. No other band like them to compare them with, the cerebra band of rock & roll!
Many years ago (in the early 2000s) I was in a band whose leader loved Pink Floyd. We covered this song, among many other Pink Floyd songs. I had the honor of singing a version of this song as a male vocal.
These women got soul.
Timeless priceless Masterpiece from Pink Floyd 🤘🔈🔈🔈🔈🎵🎶🍂🎹🎤🎼🎶🎵🥁🎤☮️💟🤘🔈🔈🔈🔈
The studio version is the best
I've never been able to listen to this version of The Great Gig in the Sky without crying. The studio version is amazing - raw and wild. But this one is polished to a high shine and it just kills me every time, especially when Durga McBroom (the second singer) comes in.
This is one of the greatest concerts of all time and I hope you listen to more of it, because the only thing better than Pink Floyd is Pink Floyd live. ✌🏽🤘🏽🖖🏽
I am the same except I could listen to it three or four times in a row yet still cry every time lots of tissues
At the end of the song, at 7:40 in your video, you say: "Not many lyrics..."
Sometimes words are simply not enough to express the emotions experienced by a person, having to face the worst moment of their life.
This song is a cry from the heart, which calls out to the listener's heart.
The album version with Clare Torry singing is so much better. Her vocals are much more captivating.
No, it's just different. All the different versions are amazing. In this, I just adore Sam's part. From the Momentary Lapse tour, which I was lucky enough to attend, Margaret was sensational. And of course, Clare paved the way for them all.
There are lyrics in this song. The words are actually important. Go back and listen very carefully. The lyrics give the song meaning.
Yes, I'm not afraid of dying everybody has to go sometime
Magical pink floyd ❤❤❤❤
You better watch the whole Pulse concert even on your own time! Will change your life forever!!!!!!!
Awwwww. The original Studio Recording with Clare Torry is the definitive version...
This one from “Pulse” is the one for me. Sam Brown is magnificent!
The world and his dog knows Claire Torrey did the original studio version but this is a reaction to this particular live performance and for what it's worth I do prefer Sam Brown
She does it justice but....... gimme Claire.
Claire's version is fantastic, but if I'm choosing based on voice and tone, I'm going with PULSE. Sam Brown's chops here are next level, as are Claudia's and Durga's.
I like this version but I'll give the nod to Clair Torrey. It took 3 vocalists to represent what she did. Truly you can't go wrong with either one.
The song is from the album Dark Side Of The Moon. It was on the Top 200 Album Charts for 972 Weeks (Almost 18 years)
❤ your right you dont need words to Feel the pain
Great reaction. :) This has been one of my favorite songs for decades.
The five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost.
Hi y'all , nice to meet ya!
Everything already said. Album version is even better. Clare Tory was a session singer brought in for an afternoon, paid £30, given no real guidance apart from no words. She did it in a couple of takes and left feeling she had done a bad job. Now she’s music history. She later caught and got a writing credit for it so she ended up with more than £30.
"We're really feeling this song" Really? You seemed to spend more time telling people to like, subscribe and comment than you did actually listening to it. And never mind all the other chatting over it.
I always enjoy seeing people appreciate good music. Thanks!
enjoyed that. cheers.
58.... I tear up every time I listen 2 it....!! If u like this.... Jump Down the "TOOL" rabbit hole.... it's an Amazing journey
Any Floyd song from Live Pulse is amazing.
I actually prefer the Delicate Sound of Thunder live version of Great Gig. Machan Taylor's voice is otherworldly on that version.
Prince & The Revolution - When Doves Cry (Official Music Video)
You don't Just listen to Pink Floyd you experience the journey they take you on .Nobody makes music like them . Been tuning in for 50 years .
Listen to the ALBUM VERSION .
This song always brings tears to my eyes. My own opinion, if you can believe it, is that the original album track is better. Do yourself a favor and listen to it too, then decide for yourself. On the studio version, it is sung by one vocalist, Clare Torre. It's a very special treat either way.
Good reaction ! I grew up listening to Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, etc... Pink Floyd is definitely number 1 with Led Zepplin 2nd, in my opinion. David Gilmour ( Pink Floyd) is the best guitarist in the world /history. John Bonham ( Bonzo) best drummer of all time
You are liking the production, sound and meaning of this song. You really should consider looking into the album as a whole. Dark Side of the Moon is a "concept album." This song fits into the album at a specific spot for a specific purpose and relates to the other songs on the album for a complete theme. The Wall goes a step further, as it included a movie based on the story of the songs on the album. Both of these deserve comprehensive looks, if you like and appreciate the work these guys do - Also, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council were two blues musicians back in the '60's that Syd Barrett, a founding member of PF liked. This is where the bands name came from.
Pink Floyd has been my favorite group since 1970 when i first heard them. I remember hearing this song about a month after the album came out and it has always been my favorite song ever!
You should listen to the studio version sung by Clare Torrey and also watch the interview with Clare where she explains that song.
Liked! Subscribed!
You two are great, BTW. Would love to chat with you about music someday.
"This would be a great song to sit in the park sipping on something".... you ain't got time to take a sip when you're dying!! LOL
You can't find anymore, the true reason of what Claire Torrey was told when she sang it (orig). HOLOCAUST w/out words was put in her head. The unknown, wait-what?...then. The gamit "from-too" inevitable acceptance. Lambs too?
You gotta do the studio version
You guys should check out Gilmours’s newer solo In Any Tongue, live at Pompeii. You’ll love the vocals and of course he has a beautiful solo at the end❤❤❤❤
Not a patch on the original album version, however I did have the amazing experience of seeing them think it was 89 and the 3 girls that night were amazing.
But Claire is the one.
Pink is perfect as always thanks for your action. I’m a new subscriber six-year-old white man having fun. Listen to Pink Floyd like I always did sitting in my bed late at night in the 70s with my headphones on with my parents thought I was sleeping thanks mom and dad for that sad ass Sansui stereos.
This video always gives me chills. Yes, it is about the five stages of death. Sam Brown does Denial and Anger (superbly). Durga McBroom does Barganing and Depression (what a voice) and Claudia Fontaine (no one could have done it better) does Acceptance. Three of the best female voices ever. Sadly, Sam Brown, the blonde singer, lost her singing voice. But I am happy to have recently read that she has regained her singing voice! You go girl! Oh, and by the way, I am sipping a single malt scotch. ;-)
Very cool reaction, thank you.Keep them coming.
Great Reaction! Watch Comfortably Numb from Pulse Concert also Sorrow
This is from the Pulse concert. It's great. But in my opinion, the Delicate Sound Of Thunder version is better. Worth checking out.
Agree 100%! I enjoy the more “intimate” cinematography in DSOT. Although not quite as grand of a production, it just has a different “feel” to it!
The best thing to do is listen to the track within its album setting. Listen to the whole album in one go. Lay on the couch, put your headphones on and close your eyes until its finished.
I prefer the studio version
the album was called "The Dark Side Of The Moon" ... and created a standard on which OTHER albums are judged
First time should never be a live version especially this song
Get a 24k copy of the CD have some THC if you'd like a listen from start to end.
Great reaction.
Check the studio track...
it's about death. The lyrics are spoken at the start and one line in the middle.
I am not frightened of dying, you know
Any time will do, I don't mind
Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime
I never said I was frightened of dying
By definition, not really lyrics. Those were spoken recorded responses to questions written by Roger Waters and given to people who happen to be working or visiting the Abbey Road studios one day. They added selected responses throughout the album in the spots they thought worked best.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can not go wrong with Pink Floyd. How about some Genesis or Phil Collins?
This is beautiful, but nobody could outperform Claire Tori, the original.
The studio version is much better. IMHO 0:42
This is NOT “laid back and chill”!!
This is dramatic power and pure emotion - an evocation of three stages of leaving this Earth. Nothing could be less chill than that.
Depth and complexity of feeling - maybe we’ve forgotten what that is in our music? I hope not.
Such a good track!
I've heard the studio version. I still say it's Aretha 🤔
Thats church bro. Whew. Haha
this isnt really a song. its an intro or, more appropriately, an interlude.
Ever heard of Rachel Fury?
You should listen to the album version! For your next Pink Floyd song, I recommend aComfortably Numb. It’s another amazing song
new sub here please try something from the band "Steely Dan" I recommend "FM (no static at all)"
No interruptions is better with reaction after the song finished it is just a suggestion keep enjoying the good music
Nice that you’re enthusiastic, but talking over the music will chase away a lot of potential subscribers.
Instead of telling everyone to subscribe every two minutes, try listening to the music Instead.
Why in the world would u do the live version? I don't get it. It doesn't even include the original singer's legendary performance.
THE ORIGINAL VERSION is 3-times better...!
How dare you talk over and interrupt this!!
You might have been listening but you weren't hearing.
So only some people have soul? Grow up.
This is rubbish compered to the original recorded version. Music is for the ears not the eyes, liste to the original recorded version. Music is for the ears not the eyes.
Geeze, and for 30 years I have enjoyed this version. Thanks for letting me know your opinion about my complete waste of time filling my ears with this rubbish.
For no lyrics and a great groove see Rush "YYZ" And yes I'm a Floyd junkie. Listen to the entire album from start to finish and have more than just some sips. (doobie also while listening, if it's not against your ethics). After that you'll probably want more sips and more Pink Floyd.
If you sync the movie The Wizard of Oz to Dark Side of the Moon this song The Great Gig in the Sky plays during the tornado scene in the movie
I'm an old guy. This song has great meaning even tho there's no words. It's about the stages of grief one is in when they find out they're dying. 20 years ago a long-time friend was diagnosed with cancer. When I went to the hospital to visit, I asked him how he felt about his circumstances. He said, remember the "Great Gig In The Sky"? I said of course and he said, well I'm at the second verse ( for lack of a better word since there are no lyrics) if you know what I mean. The third verse would come 2 weeks later. I will never forget him or this very powerful song. Great stuffs folks..
Heartfelt lament absolutely MADE for a black girls voice. That said, the original album performance by the white Clare Torry is the ultimate. have a listen.
🤗 Subbed for Pink Floyd. Hoping for more tracks (Comfortably Numb) from the Pulse Tour! 😊 Saw Pulse at The Meadowlands in NJ because MSG tickets were waaaaay too expensive! 🥰🐰
Pulse 1994 at earl's court London. Was there.
New sub....The studio with the great Clare Torry is the best version IMO. Done in 2 takes! If you didn't hear soul from the blond lady you must have been just settling into the song, Great smiles, great reaction. My top 5 always include Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers Band, Steely Dan and... All worth your reaction! I'd be happy to make suggestions.
This is actually on my headstone! "The Best Song Ever is The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd
My all time favorite❤
My very favorite from Pink Floyd!
❤
I think you two should do reactions to all the songs at this concert, it's called 'PULSE', and all the songs are masterpieces, well worth a look and listen, check the play list on Wikipedia, three cheers to you two oo thanks
This song is so great that I'm enjoying watching people react to it. Not one word and it says a lot more than many songs. They were part of my late teens.
No words, only music..
A master piece of all time 1 of rocks greatest
I HAVE BEEN BLESSE WITH BEING ABLE TO SEE THEM IN CONCERT AND I CAN0SAY THAT THEY PUT ON ONE OF THE BEST!
move your cursor
ssttt
Not one word was spoken but you understand everything that was said.
❤ if you don't feel this song? Somebody stole your heart❤
