On the scene where Ebenezar breaks up with his girlfriend, there is a song that got edited out that explains the what and why much better. Instead you jump from talking on the bench to Rizzo crying. This episode is supposed to be closest to the original book with the most quotes directly from the original book. When Michael Caine was asked to do the role many felt he would just do enough but he said “I will approach this role as if I was working with the Royal Shakespeare Company”. And I think he did a great job of it. I think if this was done just by people with no muppets it would never make it as a kids movie. For a different version but also good if you haven’t watched it yet try watching Scrooged. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
For me, Scooged missed the point when they showed Scrooge's family sobbing over his death. The whole point is that Scrooge was unmourned. Scrooged seemed to miss that. It was strange, because in my opinion it was the only wrong note in the entire film.
Not only did excising "When Love is Gone" from the theatrical version leave a somewhat jarring cut in the scene where it belongs, but the song also sets up the final reprise "The Love We Found" at the end of the movie, making it more poignant. Cutting it was a bad decision, all around, and Brian Henson was right to want it reinstated.
One of the cutest and funniest Muppet movies ever.
I heard people say that this is the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
It's also funny that a frigging puppet show comes up with one of the more faithful adaptations I've seen
The Muppets never half-heartedly did anything at that time. Their version of Muppet Treasure Island is also really good! Billy Connolly has a short appearance in that one and has a certain honour that he holds in high regard.
I just wish they'd been able to include the bit with Ebenezer's loving sister (who died a young woman) and his hateful/mourning? father (who forbid Ebenezer from coming home, even for Christmas).
Not that faithful. They’ve omitted lots of things, like Scrooge’s sister, and added the part where he visits the Cratchit house on Christmas Day, which he doesn’t do in the original story. The costuming, though, is extremely period accurate.
It's a delightful version, for sure, with an impressive performance by Michael Caine. Something else that is impressive is how well so many people around the world know this beautiful, moral and clever Charles Dickens story from 1843.
I remember growing up, it was The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock. I went back to Fraggle Rock a few years ago and they had some themes going in those episodes that were way beyond what I would have thought was suited for a kid my age at that time. I had forgotten that they tackled issues like prejudice in those early 80s episodes. But here, it's all fun. It's not my favourite version of the story, but it's certainly not my least favourite. Alastair Sim is still my go-to.
Alastair Sim is the best Scrooge in all cinema.
@@Flix2Us No way, George C Scott’s is the best.
Oh, you BET I watch this every year, on Christmas Eve - "Just one more sleep till Christmas!"
One of the most amazing things about this is that the costuming is some of the most period accurate clothing ever created for a period piece! Including the what the Muppets wore! They went all out!
Several RUclipsrs have done videos about it, and one costumer did a recreation of what Gonzo (Charles Dickens) was wearing because it's so accurate to the time period! Amazing!
A very, Merry Christmas to you both! You have given me much needed joy this evening and I thank you!
Merry Christmas to you, too!
This was a must watch every year for my family growing up. We all still watch it in our own homes now that we’ve scattered.
One of my all-time favourites (and by far, the version of A Christmas Carol I've seen the most)! Showed it to my girlfriend the other day and she was amazed how good it is! The Muppet humor is charming and Michael Caine playing it straight and genuine gives the film depth and power. A true family classic! Fun seeing your reactions!
The first ghost puppet/doll was all film under water in a tank and green screened in..as they wanted the flow movements :)
Also Caine is amazing in this, he said he’ll accept the roll as long as he could play it straight no matter what muppet silliness was going on around him 😂
You have to go into the Extras and watch Belle's song. It's the best song in the movie!
It's beautiful, and a real tear-jerker, being cut apparently because Disney execs feared the scene was too sad for younger audience members. Then the negatives of it were lost for many years. But, yes, it is an integral part of the film and one of the strongest scenes. A few weeks back, Disney+ restored it in full to the streamed version of the film for the first time in nearly 20 years.
That doorknob scene scared the shit outta me when I was a kid lol.
This was the first Muppet film after Jim Henson died. Brian is his son.
There was only Jacob Marley in the original but those two always appear together.
Most reactors miss the joke that the extra Marley is, ahem, Bob Marley.
Wonderful adaptation - Michael Caine was fantastic! As a lover of reading, I was happy with the way Gonzo (Mr Dickens) encouraged the audience to 'read the book'. Nice touch; A Christmas Carol is a great way to ease young readers into the classics.
If you 2 haven't seen it before, you might also enjoy "Muppet: Treasure Island". It has Tim Curry in it.
Kids from Dicken's time dealt with dark times as a part of life. Hearty folk compared to how kids are raised today. 😉
Happy Holidays!!!...thanks for all the smiles!!...
Merry Christmas!
Many more to come in the New Year! 😊
I miss watching movies with my mom. Especially this one. If this was on, that usually meant she was cooking. Happy Christmas to you.
In this Christmas Movie are two Bloodhound Police Dogs in Uniform with Stove-pipe Top Hats.
Law Enforcement Officers.
"Puppets watching a puppet show"
You gotta watch The Muppets Movie 2011
My favorite adaptation of A Christmas Carol is the 1951 version starring Alastair Sim. He is the quintessential Scrooge and no one else comes close imho. Give it a watch if you haven't seen it, I guarantee it'll be worth your time.
That one is our absolute favourite! And you're right, Alastair Sim is THE perfect Scrooge!
Great reaction as usual. I love all the Muppet movies !! They’ve been around longer than I have. The first Muppet Movie came out in 1979!!
As Canadians, you need to be reacting to my favorite horror movie of all time... Black Christmas 🖤🎄it was shot in Toronto and has famous Canadian actors in their early careers. If you seen Superman, Porky's, My Big Fat Greek Wedding or A Nightmare on Elm Street... you'll recognize quite a few actors.
Michail Cain nailed id
Merry Christmas to y'all
You too!

Great reaction to this absolutely delightful adaptation of the Dickens classic. Happy Holidays Nick and Jen!!
And a Merry Christmas to you!
Great video! 👏 👏
Thank you!
Flix2Us, have you got a chance to see "Snow Day" from 2000? Anything can happen on a snow day.
24:20 Some kids in the test audience asked what the bookkeepers did wrong to get coal for Christmas. That part about Santa had completely slipped the writers’ minds.
That's actually hilarious!
Awww! 😲
I guess these kids don't realize that coal is a source of heat.
Please do Muppet Treasure island as well
Sigh...so many reactions miss Belle's song
Dang it Katzenburg
