A 35-year-old PE teacher in China’s Sichuan province started teaching students martial arts in 2011. Students practise sword fighting three times a week. Zeng Ke even built the equipment by himself using car tyres. He said he wants to impart traditional culture to the next generation, not just practical skills.

I wish I had my PE like that. I probably would have never skipped class.

@@xlin4197 ............
Great then, because I see many students skipping PE class simply because they don't want to get tired, and prefer going back to their gadgets and doing Tiktok dance rather than trying to play any sports, even when they are free to choose any sport available.
Only PE I never skipped was individual and dual sports, volleyball, and dodgeball. Everything else was meh. They made it too easy to skip too. Attendance was taken at the beginning before u go to the locker rooms to change. Then I'd just walk out another door opposite the gym....
I liked this kind of physical activity you learn to defend yourself but also to be healthy at the same time
as well as being cultural too!
And also cool

There wouldnt be any. When you do mixed martial Arts it humbles you. Because you become more confident in what you can do
-casually whips out sword-
@Shyla Pollard it’s a joke but I tell you something. You’re wrong. It’s not confidence you gain from martial arts, it’s your point of view. Gaining confidence just makes you want to beat up more people. As you progress through martial arts you see it as not just a cool sport or one you can use to beat up bad guys, but as a way to protect the people around you. Humble and confidence are opposites things.
@@shylapollard5165 no there wouldnt be any sword, beside in asian culture it basically a disgrace if you get in a fight,my parents didn't let me have anykind of fight unless getting mugged or reputation was on the line
No mercy 🤣
This is SO IMPOSSIBLY COOL. Not to mention how he's promoting healthier lifestyles, preserving tradition, and gives the kids skills that may save their lives one day.
Chinese martial arts is impractical and is just an art. It can give you a false sense of your own ability and encourage you to be more reckless although lacking actual abilities to defend yourself. Yes tradition and health is part of it but it can be dangerous in an actual fight.
@@felixchen1718 The level at which the kids are learning may be impractical, but their skills in terms of agility, reaction speed, reflexes, footwork, etc. will improve and may prove useful in a dangerous situation. The training also just generally increases overall fitness, which is always useful in any situation.
agreed
@@alicez966 Where is agility, reaction speed, and reflexes put into this? There are things that help the things you have listed using sports like basketball, handball, soccer, dogeball, etc.
@Musashi Miyamoto Except for the fact I have skill in it being in the 武术 team in my old school for a few years participating in competitions and stuff, so your point about me having no knowledge in 武术 does not stand. There are much more useful things like bjj and boxing and stuff that can protect you much better.
Wish My School Was this instead of runnig around and doing pushups and situps
Bro/Sis(whatever you are) did you not see him make that kid do the horse stance?
@jerry xulin Horse stance is tougher than push ups and sit ups if done correctly.
@jerry xulin Apparently there is supposed to be a comparison, I guess, between horse stance and push ups. Who knows.
My school made us run 5 miles on the 2nd day of school and 7 people passed out bro
@jerry xulin Idk I didn't pass out but they were obese or had asthma since I run every day lol it was easy but everybody else was complaining
This could never be possible in the U.S, I would already imagine all the Karens accusing the school of teaching kids "violence" 🤦🏽♀️. It would be cool though
Parents whine if their kid has to run a mile, let alone learn self defense. How dare we make them learn a skill and exercise!

At least y'all have ball games, our PE teacher makes us run around the feild 3 times until we get exhausted af and then "class dismissed!"
@Amber Chinese martial arts is impractical and is just an art. It can give you a false sense of your own ability and encourage you to be more reckless although lacking actual abilities to defend yourself, actually putting you in danger.
@@felixchen1718 its meant to improve your reflexes, make you think quicker and improve your balance and footwork, not just to actually defend you

We definitely have to, since the previous generations under Mao tore a lot of it down for the sake of industrial progress. Now it's up to the newer generation to catch-up and recover/preserve what was lost.

@@pigpig-ff4uf This sounds like the same case at my school here in Malaysia 😂 Our PE teachers were always “busy” managing school athletes somehow (it’s weird how we never got any outstanding achievement from the athletes after all those hours of “training” though 😂). We only had PE class like every 2 or 3 months because of that, and even if we had it, we were never instructed to do any activity that really made us work our body out properly. I made myself to join our school sports team just so that I could exercise, get a proper body training, and feel healthy somehow (and because I was too lazy to do anything after school hours).

It's normal. In Japan they have kendo classes. Their class is literally kids hacking at each other in armor.
@Howard Huang some people watch one anime and think they're experts on Japan.
@Howard Huang i mean yeah, but i also remember doing judoka and stuff like that for PE back @ hanazono hs in kyoto. i dont know if stuff like that is the norm throughout japan but thats just my experience, but honestly kendo isnt too farfetched of an idea for Japan's PE curriculum.
Kendo is club activity only not classes
@@LenKirin High school PE in Japan doesn't include judo or kendo, anyone can search. But why are you talking abt high school? This Chinese school is elementary if not junior high.
@@tobacco118 I mean I'm literally just saying that given MY experience, kendo wouldn't be too farfetched in the school system (it'd probably be less common though bc you need more equipment for stuff like that). I didn't say that kendo and judo are 100% part of the Japanese PE curriculum, nor did I say it was standardized and mandatory at all parts of the country or whatever; rather that it MIGHT be more common than you think for a PE curriculum in Japan (bc ofc it depends on the school). Read between the lines pal, I'm not making ANY farfetched claim. Also, I mention high school because, like I said, this was MY experience and I'd rather set an accurate precedent than have misleading information (but the school itself was junior and high).
