  • In the inherently patriarchal Buddhist tradition, women are considered inferior to men.
    But the nuns of the 900-year-old Drukpa Lineage in Nepal are challenging stereotypes by developing exceptional physical and mental strength.
    These nuns are the only female order to practice the deadly martial art of Kung Fu.

    Let's appreaciate how they have the educational infrastructure to teach them english in that remote place. I feel like that really shows their commitment to for one enable the message to be spread, but also for the nuns to venture out into the world intependently.

    • @prisonguy9572
      @prisonguy9572 3 года назад +93

      I worked as an English teacher to Buddhist monks about 20 minutes drive from this place. It is not that remote as it seems in this video and with 10 minutes by car you can be in the city centre of Kathmandu. Most teachers were Western volunteers like me but there were local teachers as well. Bascially the young monks have their own school inside the monastery where they get taught subjects like maths, english, some basic science etc. so most monks (except for the older ones) speak english to some degree.
      I can't speak for this particular monastery but the one where I worked the young monks were mostly orphans or children from very poor families that couldnt raise these kids themselves. The monastery also functioned as a sort of boarding school to these children and once they finished their education they had the choice to leave the monastery to venture into the world on their own. The english being taught was to make them more independent and to give them a bigger chance of building themselves a future on their own in the modern world, especially in a tourist-dominated economy like Nepal.

Men have their own kind of warrior strength to empower them as well, but it's much more socially accepted and expected, while with women it breaks so many tropes and ignores so many "rules" and "norms." This is untrue. Classic feminist oppression narrative. There are no victims in Buddhism.

      @StimParavane 3 года назад

      @@haydenscholze7452 Pushing a victimhood narrative for political power is not Buddhism. If you find yourself oppressed it means you oppressed others in a past life. The best thing to do is to shut up and purify that karma through disciplined practice.

    • @haydenscholze7452
      @haydenscholze7452 3 года назад +13

      I’m not pushing victim hood if anything I hate people playing victim but unlike you I don’t ignore suffering and claim it is because of a past like I don’t know and can’t prove exists I say we can do better in this regard and we have but leaches like you drag down society and use you practices and belief to justify you actions say that we should allow it and blaming it on their last life’s sins.Even if that was true It doesn’t mean we can’t be better does it”karma” can work in many ways so don’t use your belief as an excuse to justify you behaviour and actions.If you are a Buddhist believer as you appear isn’t one of your core principles to relive life of suffering,yet all I see you doing is acting like you have the right to inflict it with nothing but a pathetic mindset to back it up.
