- Oakwood University shares its official footage of the May 20, 2020 memorial service of Mr. Richard W. Penniman at the Oakwood University Memorial Gardens with the permission of the Penniman family.
After the life we lived in the Clubs, Drugs, Gambling with our Lives, Money, Fortune and Fame... I give God Praise that one day I heard God call me by my name, thought I was loosing my mind. I had No idea someone was Praying for me! My Mother was Praying for me. I couldn't go back and live the life I use to lived. I gave my life unto the Lord . I know many Celebrities say they're Saved. There is a difference just saying it but Not living it. I give God Praise to have listen to Mr Richard Testimony! And leading people to be Saved. I seen him on TV At the Seventh Day Adventist Church telling people of his life. I will never forget this day.

Little Richard was gifted. I met him when he was the singing evangelist for Pastor Walter Pearson. That was around the late 70s to early 80s. We had a huge tent crusade on Hagley Park Road in Kingston Jamaica. I love to hear him sing foot prince of Jesus. I enjoyed his testimony and speaking to him. Although he had left the church, I am happy he came back in. He is an Oakwood University alumni like myself. I am really happy he gave his heart to God, "for what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and then to lose his own soul."

I really enjoyed seeing one of the last interviews with Mr. Richards in a church on stage, speaking of his past, present and future, he spoke with such boldness of Lord Jesus, I was so happy for him and his submission to Christ. Rest in Peace Mr. Little Richard.

I fell in love with Little Richard in 1963 at the age of five when I heard him singing, "I don't know what you got but it's got me." Thank God I saw him perform twice and will never forget it. RIP.

4EVER TRUE My grandmother died a year ago and I had to tell myself to be happy because she was 91. That was a blessing so I had to realize the blessing of living to that age but it still hurt to see them go.

As much as little Richard talked about Jesus Christ, being a world wide legend, living to be 87 years old and to leave this world's music, American music better than he found it, you just can't be sad. Little Richard IS with the Lord and savior JESUS Christ, forever and ever amen. JOB WELL DONE SIR.

Little Richard was very talented, handsome, effervescent and humorous. He was blessed with so many talents, he could be anything he wanted to be. He could have been a preacher , a comedian, an actor or a talk show host; he was all of those rolled into one. I have been watching all the videos of him and I can’t wait to visit Macon Georgia where it all began. R. I. P. I met Little Richard back in the 70s at Rev. James Cleveland's Church in Los Angeles. He invited me to the service, but since I was the bus driver and had taken a church choir from Berkeley, CA to sing at Rev. Cleveland's church, I had to pass so I would not be over my logbook hours. He was very nice, and not at all loud and flamboyant like his stage presence. He was just Richard Penniman

I meet Lil Richard at the SDA Church in 1994/Altadena, CA. Such a very nice happy go lucky person. When he entered the church he had a smile on his face. I extended my hand out to him - which he acknowledged & smiled at me. I'll never forget that Sabbath.....God bless him !!

This man had to fight for every recognition he got. Being himself in the 1950’s must of been such a challenge.
May God grant me the grace and endurance to hear those words said about my life, that my ending was better than the beginning. For there are so many people who helped me along the way- that the debt of gratitude is more than I am able to pay in this lifetime.

Jimi Hendrix (his first name is spelled *Jimi* not Jimmy) was inspired to do what he did because of Little Richard. Otis Redding, Joe Tex, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Billy Preston, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Prince, Michael Jackson, Dave Grohl (from Nirvana/the Foo Fighters), Lemmy (from Motörhead), Elvis Presley and the other original 1950s rock 'n' rollers... and so on were all influenced by Little Richard. The list is endless of all the musicians, singers and performers Little Richard has inspired. Little Richard was the start of it all! Otis Blackwell was a black American songwriter, singer, and pianist he wrote a lot of Elvis Presley's early hits. Little Richard wrote his own songs and he invented a new way of playing piano. Screamin' Jay Hawkins was a black American singer-songwriter, musician, actor, film producer, and boxer he wrote, composed, sang and performed "I Put a Spell on You". "I Put a Spell on You" is a 1956 song written and composed by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins. I don't know the Smokin' Joe version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' song "I Put a Spell on You". I have heard the Nina Simone version of "I Put a Spell on You" though. I think that Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins who was a black American man was a founder of gothic rock. It is the same with hip hop/rap there are white hip hop/rap artists who make a lot of money like Eminem yet it was black American people who invented it. Black people have invented so many genres of popular music like jazz, gospel, spirituals, the blues, R&B, rock' n' roll, soul, funk, disco, reggae, hip hop/rap.. and so on and helped to develop electronic dance music. I adore Little Richard so much I'm very upset by his death. I love Little Richard's gospel recordings they really help me and give me comfort. Little Richard became a Christian his faith was very important to him. Little Richard (Richard Wayne Penniman) was such a kind, giving person he overcame so much. I'm a born-again, Bible-believing Christian my faith is the most important thing in my life. God bless you.

I was privileged to enjoy an evening concert near Chicago. It is still a highlight in my life. The man and his music are unforgettable. I was also able to hear him preach. He truly had a calling. Little Richard will always be remembered. We pray for the family during this hour of sadness. I'm glad to see his testimony on 3ABN a few years ago and his Final Sermon too. Little Richard gave his life to God and despite the trials of this life; he put his life into the hands of God. Hopefully, many will be influenced to do the same. Besides his obvious talent, little Richard "kept it 100." Love him or not, Richard was also another voice for black people, this country's conscience, reminding America of her past and current injustices. He told it like it was and unlike so many others, Richard was not a hypocrite. Bless this brother always, may he rest comfortably until the Lord comes for him.

I am grateful for the prvilege of meeting and taking to Brother Little Richards in 1976 when he was performing as a Singing Evangelist. His moving testimony at 3ABN was very touching and was indicative of how a merciful and loving God can change the life of anyone of us who is willing to submit to Him. Let us be faithful to Jesus, and we will surely see our brother in the first resurrection. May God grant peace to all family and friends.
