One thing i did not explain is that after you become an NCO as an 88M you will do less driving and be more of what is called a TC (Truck Commander) where you are just in the passenger seat, working the radio, maybe a JCR navigation system and overall in charge of that truck with a E-4 or below driving. Sometimes you will still drive but you are more often the TC.
You would still be able to get a military drivers license that would allow you to drive military equipment but if you wanted your civilian drivers license you would have to do that on your own.
I replied to a comment on another post about this mos but never got an answer that made since. Basically a guy asked two questions and she answered with yes. The question was whether or not a regular civilian drivers license is needed to even be considered for this MOS(88M). I doubt one is needed but now would be the time to ask dumb questions. Been up researching different MOS's and getting as much information on the ones I'm interested in as well learning about the BCT and AIT. I'm working on learning the Army values and the Army song as well as the Soldiers Creed. I watched your video on enlisted rank too. RUclips in general is extremely helpful but you seem to provide a lot of that insight. "Did you ever get a clear answer as to whether or not you need a drivers license beforehand. Because I've never driven anything before in my life besides a car in a straight line and that was a one time deal. I can't see them comparing a Buick to the trucks they drive but if driving period is something I need to learn before even trying to enlist than that's what I'll do. Or instead of doing 88M, I'll go for 88H or 91F. 88H uses vehicles too though. Idk man."
Online it dose say you have to have a civilian drivers license to be an 88M but I feel like I remember having a new soldier that never had a drivers license. I’m going to say that you do need to have a drivers license to show you know basic traffic laws though. If you want a 100% answered say call up an Army recruiter and ask.
I was a cargo truck driver (basicly an 88M) in Finnish Defence Forces for one year. The stuff we did was exactly like you said in this video. Hauling gear and men to training areas and stuff. Really easy and "lazy" job i'd say. We also "stole" some extra food and ate them in the cabin with other 88Ms and avoided shitty jobs and training :D
Was an 88M for 12 years w/ 58th Transportation Battalion at Ft. Leonard before getting my degree and going 42B (HR Officer, getting out next year) loved every minute of it.

@@masonbourbonnais3601 The PX's in Kabul sold beer. I'm not American, but I worked in NATO HQ in Kabul. We had one of the three bars - at the time - that was open in the evening after hours. Once every other day, I would do a supply run at different camps in the Kabul, including American PX's, and buy beers and soft drinks worth about 1.000-2.000 euros.
kimberly smith my son just came home last Th., I think his AIT was 8 weeks, and he also did his BCT at Ft. Leonardwood so he was ready to get out of there. He did enjoy all his time there though, he never had anything bad to say about the entire experience.
kimberly smith he already has his orders and was assigned to his first duty station. He came home for 2 weeks because he signed up & was accepted for hometown recruiting. If he would not have been accepted for that he would have only had 5 days at home.
Just sworn in today at MEPS, chose 88M over construction equipment repair for National Guard since there really wasn't anything else available. Glad we get the option to shoot vehicle mounted weapons and moving troops and what not.

Or just focus on main important 4 and just get a higher afqt score?
Back in early Iraq War 88M had casualty rates matching those of the combat guys. They were on a lot of convoys and were often the largest targets, nowadays i think they contract the supply jobs to local nationals so its not as bad as it used to be.
Oh no way. Both of my deployment (2004-2005 and 2007-2009) we did all the hauling and only used Local nationals for operating the crane. But I’m sure that can very from unit to unit and over time. Yet some stuff just won’t be transported by LS like food and ammo.
@@christopherchaos no you didnt do all the hauling because i was a route security MP that saw many a convoy of non military convoys carrying our food. Apecifically vegetables. We didnt have lettuce for 3 days bc the lettuce truck got hit. This was BIAP along MSR Tampa in 2006-07
@@kodingkrusader2765 every unit that deploys have specialized roles. He could have been hauling mainly ammo and fuel to field combat units. I'm not even an 88m and I can tell you that. Food and other unsensitive logistical cargo it doesn't matter who does it unless it is MAYBE MRE's. I say that because MRE's are going to be hauled to a FOB or a unit out in the field close to a combat zone. Especially would be him if the supplies are needed there and now as well if their supplies keep getting hit using unarmed locals. Lots of factors into why his unit could have done all the hauling.

In truth there were thousands of civilians driving tractor trailers supporting the troops in country, almost every drop of fuel brought into country was hauled by civilians, all the food, equipment, repair parts, and sometimes mail and ammo, mail and ammo were driven by U.S. citizens. I am a retired 64C/88M who worked as a contractor for KBR for 4 and a half years in Iraq running convoys outside the wire. What FOB or COB were you at?

I became an 88 Mike in 1973. I spent over 2 years in Germany and for the most part it was a straight forward job. I found during long training exercises that 88 mike guys were well liked because we often had goodies to hand out, either officially or not. Some of us knew how to get certain things that the guys really liked having in the field. I also spent a lot of nights sleeping under my truck. I took BAC and AIT at Ft. Lost in the Woods. Back then we were trained on many types of vehicles and at one point I was asked to volunteer to learn how to operate construction equipment. Something I never did.

Currently a delivery driver for Dominos, I enjoy driving I find it easy to zone out in the drive and let's time pass quickly. About to sign a contract this week. My recruiter says the army's offering a $12,000 bonus for 88ms right now. Thinking about doing it
I wouldnt trust bonuses. Dont ever do an mos for the bonus. You have to really want that. Once you accept the fact you may not get the bonus, you wont be as mad if you dont get it. Hell, I might even tell them to keep it since I dont trust it.
I was offered a bonus when I signed my contract back in ‘09 and I got every dime of it. Unlike the other comments here about not getting paid for your bonus, I’m telling you that the US Gov’t WILL pay you. I got half my bonus after BCT, 1/4 after AIT, and and 1/4 after my 1 year with my unit. It was all written on the the contract, clear as day. However, a couple things to keep in mind: If you fail your PT test(s) you will be flagged and cannot receive your bonus. If you quit or get court-marshaled or get injured to the point where the army deems you “un-deployable”, you MAY lose the last part of your bonus. And for heaven’s sake if you decide to quit (get out) of the Army before your contract is up, the US gov’t will make you REPAY each and every single last dime they gave you.
I chose 88M because of the bonus. While I was at MEPS, I failed the colorblind test, and that removed almost every job I can do in the National Guard. I wanted to go home and talk it over with my family, and scan all of my possible jobs. But one of the recruiters, who used to be a drill sergeant got ahold of me, and convinced me to drive a truck for 6 years. I figured, what the hell and did it. I do love driving, and constantly make long trips. I ship here in about a month, and I am feeling more confident with my decision than I was with my original MOS.
I was an 88 mike for 21 of my 23 years. I Drove everything from a Hummer to the Super HET. I also learned how to drive other vehicles because you did not always get a driver to load the different vehicles on back of your 915 or HET trailers. I put M1 tanks, Bradleys, forklifts, amor engineer equipment, artillery . You get the idea. Also missions like you said. Convoy security was also what I did while. Deployed to Iraq in 2003-04
I was an 88M1P from 1996-2001. My experiences were a lot different at Ft Bragg, and being in 3-505 PIR 82nd Airborne Division. I hauled 11B's out to the field, and had to stay with them, and basically do the same training as them. While I was in ammo squad, I had to determine the amount of vehicles need to haul the ammo, get the proper placards and equipment, and get the right drivers that had hazmat handler notation on their license. After we hauled the ammo, we'd have to set up a field ASP, and guard and issue out the ammo. Experiences for an 88M depending on unit, post, and command structures.

88M was probably my 4th mos my longest ride was Afros Philadelphia to Seattle Washington my scariest was from Kuwait to Baghdad retired now but I drove a lot as an Nco loved every moment of it
I was in Ft Eustis Va as 88M I drove 915s We went on quite a few over the road TDY missions Texas California Florida Louisiana New Mexico Arizona. We were all over but that unit don't exist anymore. It was fun on stateside missions. Deployment to Iraq in 2003 the invasion. I served 2000- 2004.
My goodness, this sure brought back a lot of memories. Back when I was in as an 88M I was stationed in Germany. The company used to mostly run mail missions there at the time. I was up north in Iraq as well, did a lot of barrier missions with the corp of engineers and a lot of those runs out up and down northern Iraq. The clip if that road in the video sure took me back.

Was 88M in Reserves in Michigan. 1st 2wk AT was moving Mi Battalion from Ft. Polk to Ft. Hood. Next AT was moving 7th ID frim Beaumont Tx to England AFB. Then some war training at Camp Grayling. Then shipped trucks and 3 axle flatbed trailers to Fallon Nv to move ammo from Sierrra Army Depot to Utah. Meeting Active duty unit halfway and swap trucks. Just before OIF 1 we went to Ft. Hood to move equip to Ft. Chaffee AR. We drove M915A1's pulling M872 trailers. Stayed in eirher Holiday Inns or NG centers.

I helped 88Ms as 91B, I got attached to my unit's distro platoon for a little bit, taught me a lot about logistics. Oh yeah, and 88M field time was super slick. experience 91B in the field, being attached to them was amazing, I came back to garrison damn near every day in the field.
Spent 21 years retired in 1998 started out as 64C but was changed to 88M not sure why. But it was a good MOS, tried to inlist as an MP. But was to short and under weight, so 88M was second choice. Was in combat support engineers, and non mechanized infantry in Hawaii. 3 years active 10 years reserves, and 8 years Michigan National Guard.
I was 88M drafty in the Dutch Army in 1992/93. My job was similar to the US Army 88M. I had to supply my platoon of armoured engineers with food and other equipment that they needed in the field. On one occasion the M113 armoured personal carry of Bravo Squad broke down. And my truck became their vehicle. I had a great time, but the maintenance sucked. Because I was given too few men to clean my truck. You see, the Land Rover driver had a helper, so 2 men to clean his car. And I was also given a helper for a truck that was 3 times bigger then a Land Rover. So it was impossible to clean every nook and cranny of my truck and the Sergeant Major always found dirt. So that was always stressfull. Also it was 1 of 2 reasons why I did not I did sign up to become a professional soldier. Too bad, I would have become a corporal.
I was 64 Charlie in 1978 and I had the hardest time with Straight-line backing. I took my training at Fort Dix, NJ before it became a Fed'l Confinement Facility.....Then after my training I ended up at Ft. Lewis, WA then ended up as a Battalion Driver.

When I was in the California cadet corps we had sergeants and authors from the national guard as our adults. One of my favorite sergeants was an 88 Mike in the army and he was now a part of the youth task force of the California national guard, The best thing was he was the instructor for the marksmanship training course at our summer camp so if you're in the marksmanship course we got to ride the bus a lot. It's great cuz we'd be like everybody back for lunch and we were several miles away. He made us do a road march once because we messed up severely and about halfway through he stopped us and he was driving the bus he told us the only reason why he stopped the road March halfway through was we weren't going to make it back in time for dinner and he wasn't going to do that to us.
I was assigned to 69th T C in Mannheim, Germany from 1994 to 1997. I love it. We drove all over Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, And Netherlands. Good times.
I got stationed in Hawaii. Schofield Barracks. 725 MSB. 88 Mike. 96 to 2001 We Haul grunts. From one side of the island to the other. The infantry's babysitters. Well I think I hear an early so I guess you guys can walk. Oh the ride is just fine. That's cool I don't hear no air leak anymore. Lol The buses who was driven by civilians. We drove the 900 series 5 tons.
Ive went in army...enrole in reserves ...had a dream of trucking in army...eventually got medical released... Later on i pass my Class#1 ...and it never left my mind...

Should be much more relaxed at AIT. Should be where you just show for PT and training and won’t be in the barracks with the new soldiers and also free to do your own thing in the evening and weekends.
Christopher Chaos sweet that’s how it was when I had a break in service and got back in. Sent me to relaxin Jackson to in process but we still had some limitations. Couldn’t wear my cib or deployment patch. But hopefully since they aren’t infantry they’ll be a bit more relaxed. Thanks though man🤙🏻
Currently on my last year in the Navy, needless to say ship life ain't for me. Considering switching over to Army and this job interests me among any Army engineering MOS as I'm an engineer in the Navy which is a whole different world from Army engineering.
I wanted to do this MOS, but when I was showed the videos of what MOS’s I qualified for unfortunately the 88M vid wasn’t working or something and couldn’t see exactly what vehicles you got to drive and I didn’t want to make the mistake of being a driver for an officer......so I chose 63E10 (M1A2 Tank Engine Mechanic).
I was stationed at a NATO post in the Netherlands in 1968-1970. I was a 88M then and drove non combat vehicles like a 1967 chev. pickup trucks Ford vans ect. It was so much fun driving 120 m on the autoban in Germany and wild three lane highways in Belgium. The base was more like a vacation. No field duty, shooting our rifles no inspections. Air Force food and after eating they took our trays. It was a show place for NATO. Very small base. We all hated to leave. We would go to American German base to see the real military stuff. The best time of my life.
I’m currently sitting in my hotel for MEPS while watching this video, and I’m somewhat nervous about this MOS after learning you could possibly be deployed. Which is something I don’t want lol. I’m enlisting active duty, Army.. Is it possible to avoid getting deployed, or does it fall on chance? And if so, what are the chances for active duty?
Xv Jaay no you literally cannot fail unless you get hurt or refuse training. Even then just don’t go on profile because I had a couple “individuals” who went on profile in basic just to skip certain Important events such as the Ftx, rappel tower, gas chamber ect, when it came time to graduate they couldn’t make up these events think they got day 0 recycled ♻️ Just do what they say when they say show up to formation on time squared away. Red phase your gonna be smoked every single day for everything doesn’t even matter if you did something or not even then whites just you getting use to getting smoked and when blue comes you’ll be use to it so just don’t take em personally even when it’s not your fault but ALLWAYS that one guy who can’t shut up lol 😂. You’ll be fine don’t get hurt Have a little fun with it and don’t get hurt I got a buddy who’s still there to this day because he wanted to get into a fight and tore his muscle in his left arm now he’s stuck on profile and couldn’t do the forge. Don’t fight not worth. Look at me rambling xD have fun man I enjoyed basic a lot more then I’m enjoying Ait it’s nice to have my phone but Basic was just fun in general
It's a good job to do. I was stationed in South Korea for 2 years. Be in the right uniform at the right place and at the right time. It's a real easy job to learn and to do. I loved it especially when we went to the field. You will be fine.
The people saying ait is 10 weeks are reading their assignment wrong lol... they are looking at bct which is 10 weeks. Ait is either stated as 6 or 7 weeks long, totaling 15-16 total weeks of training.
ya thats the weird thing. Online says that and ive heard others say their contract says 10 weeks too but a few soldier I had in one of my classes I was teaching just got out of AIT 6 months ago and said it was 6 weeks for them. So not sure what is up.
I hope mine is only 6 weeks. I should clarify I ship for basic on August 27th to Leanoardwood, I will have to come back for 10 days for Christmas and new years then leave again for 2 weeks if it is 10 weeks.
Does the army select your job or do you have an option to pick from a list? I guess I'm thinking, nobody selects being a cook and not everybody that wants to be a tank commander are qualified
It’s based on test scores (the ASVAB), a physical and availability. That would then break it down to the jobs that are available for the individual to select from.
Unless you signed up for a particular MOS at enlistment, bottom line is yes, the Army will determine what and where your training will be. But more importantly, what they need at any given time.

@@BigBossGrimskull the 88m MOS is one of the easier MOSs to qualify for so you do not need to worry about auto shop. 88Ms do very very minor repairs to our trucks like changing mirrors and mud flaps. So far I’ve had three trucks break down on me and the mechanics come and pick them up and I’m given a new truck to complete the mission. Don’t stress about auto shop at all in AIT they’ll teach you all the minor repairs you may have to do on the truck. Good luck!

That is pretty weird. In my country you can get a drivers license in the army and that one would also be valid to drive as a civilian.

Thanks, my son is 88M and currently in AIT at Ft. Lost in the Woods. This helps me know what he is and what he will be doing.

I was a 62E20. Worked with 12B and 88M. Got CDL while still in Army. Now I drive Freightliner Cascadia. Best job I ever had.
I became an 88 Mike in 1973. I spent over 2 years in Germany and for the most part it was a straight forward job. I found during long training exercises that 88 mike guys were well liked because we often had goodies to hand out, either officially or not. Some of us knew how to get certain things that the guys really liked having in the field. I also spent a lot of nights sleeping under my truck. I took BAC and AIT at Ft. Lost in the Woods. Back then we were trained on many types of vehicles and at one point I was asked to volunteer to learn how to operate construction equipment. Something I never did.
My best guy friend is an 88M at Fort Hood, Texas... Thank You for doing this video it has helped me understand what he does. 😊 Thank You for your service to Our Nation you are very much appreciated as are all that have served and are currently serving. 💕 🇺🇸

Currently a delivery driver for Dominos, I enjoy driving I find it easy to zone out in the drive and let's time pass quickly. About to sign a contract this week. My recruiter says the army's offering a $12,000 bonus for 88ms right now. Thinking about doing it

I wouldnt trust bonuses. Dont ever do an mos for the bonus. You have to really want that. Once you accept the fact you may not get the bonus, you wont be as mad if you dont get it. Hell, I might even tell them to keep it since I dont trust it.
I was offered a bonus when I signed my contract back in ‘09 and I got every dime of it.
Unlike the other comments here about not getting paid for your bonus, I’m telling you that the US Gov’t WILL pay you. I got half my bonus after BCT, 1/4 after AIT, and and 1/4 after my 1 year with my unit. It was all written on the the contract, clear as day.
However, a couple things to keep in mind:
If you fail your PT test(s) you will be flagged and cannot receive your bonus.
If you quit or get court-marshaled or get injured to the point where the army deems you “un-deployable”, you MAY lose the last part of your bonus.
And for heaven’s sake if you decide to quit (get out) of the Army before your contract is up, the US gov’t will make you REPAY each and every single last dime they gave you.
I chose 88M because of the bonus. While I was at MEPS, I failed the colorblind test, and that removed almost every job I can do in the National Guard. I wanted to go home and talk it over with my family, and scan all of my possible jobs. But one of the recruiters, who used to be a drill sergeant got ahold of me, and convinced me to drive a truck for 6 years. I figured, what the hell and did it. I do love driving, and constantly make long trips. I ship here in about a month, and I am feeling more confident with my decision than I was with my original MOS.

I was an 88 mike for 21 of my 23 years. I Drove everything from a Hummer to the Super HET. I also learned how to drive other vehicles because you did not always get a driver to load the different vehicles on back of your 915 or HET trailers. I put M1 tanks, Bradleys, forklifts, amor engineer equipment, artillery . You get the idea. Also missions like you said. Convoy security was also what I did while. Deployed to Iraq in 2003-04
Finished 88M AIT in March. It’s July and I’m already leaving the reserves to go active duty
What's your explained been like?
I was an 88M1P from 1996-2001. My experiences were a lot different at Ft Bragg, and being in 3-505 PIR 82nd Airborne Division. I hauled 11B's out to the field, and had to stay with them, and basically do the same training as them. While I was in ammo squad, I had to determine the amount of vehicles need to haul the ammo, get the proper placards and equipment, and get the right drivers that had hazmat handler notation on their license. After we hauled the ammo, we'd have to set up a field ASP, and guard and issue out the ammo. Experiences for an 88M depending on unit, post, and command structures.
What was your rank during that era and at the end?

Or just focus on main important 4 and just get a higher afqt score?

88M was probably my 4th mos my longest ride was Afros Philadelphia to Seattle Washington my scariest was from Kuwait to Baghdad retired now but I drove a lot as an Nco loved every moment of it
I was in Ft Eustis Va as 88M I drove 915s We went on quite a few over the road TDY missions Texas California Florida Louisiana New Mexico Arizona. We were all over but that unit don't exist anymore. It was fun on stateside missions. Deployment to Iraq in 2003 the invasion. I served 2000- 2004.

My goodness, this sure brought back a lot of memories. Back when I was in as an 88M I was stationed in Germany. The company used to mostly run mail missions there at the time. I was up north in Iraq as well, did a lot of barrier missions with the corp of engineers and a lot of those runs out up and down northern Iraq. The clip if that road in the video sure took me back.

88M here Ft. Leonardwood MO AIT here,, 8 weeks in 1990. Hooah Camp Mobile S. Korea, WARRIOR TRUCK 702nd MSB. Plenty time at DMZ. Was an experience.
I was an 88m was actually assigned convoy security during our time over in the sandbox 2004-2005 fun times indeed lots of fun in those up armored humvees
Was 88M in Reserves in Michigan. 1st 2wk AT was moving Mi Battalion from Ft. Polk to Ft. Hood. Next AT was moving 7th ID frim Beaumont Tx to England AFB. Then some war training at Camp Grayling. Then shipped trucks and 3 axle flatbed trailers to Fallon Nv to move ammo from Sierrra Army Depot to Utah. Meeting Active duty unit halfway and swap trucks. Just before OIF 1 we went to Ft. Hood to move equip to Ft. Chaffee AR. We drove M915A1's pulling M872 trailers. Stayed in eirher Holiday Inns or NG centers.

I helped 88Ms as 91B, I got attached to my unit's distro platoon for a little bit, taught me a lot about logistics.
Oh yeah, and 88M field time was super slick. experience 91B in the field, being attached to them was amazing, I came back to garrison damn near every day in the field.
Spent 21 years retired in 1998 started out as 64C but was changed to 88M not sure why. But it was a good MOS, tried to inlist as an MP. But was to short and under weight, so 88M was second choice. Was in combat support engineers, and non mechanized infantry in Hawaii. 3 years active 10 years reserves, and 8 years Michigan National Guard.

I was 88M drafty in the Dutch Army in 1992/93. My job was similar to the US Army 88M. I had to supply my platoon of armoured engineers with food and other equipment that they needed in the field. On one occasion the M113 armoured personal carry of Bravo Squad broke down. And my truck became their vehicle. I had a great time, but the maintenance sucked. Because I was given too few men to clean my truck. You see, the Land Rover driver had a helper, so 2 men to clean his car. And I was also given a helper for a truck that was 3 times bigger then a Land Rover. So it was impossible to clean every nook and cranny of my truck and the Sergeant Major always found dirt. So that was always stressfull. Also it was 1 of 2 reasons why I did not I did sign up to become a professional soldier. Too bad, I would have become a corporal.
I was 64 Charlie in 1978 and I had the hardest time with Straight-line backing. I took my training at Fort Dix, NJ before it became a Fed'l Confinement Facility.....Then after my training I ended up at Ft. Lewis, WA then ended up as a Battalion Driver.

When I was in the California cadet corps we had sergeants and authors from the national guard as our adults. One of my favorite sergeants was an 88 Mike in the army and he was now a part of the youth task force of the California national guard, The best thing was he was the instructor for the marksmanship training course at our summer camp so if you're in the marksmanship course we got to ride the bus a lot. It's great cuz we'd be like everybody back for lunch and we were several miles away. He made us do a road march once because we messed up severely and about halfway through he stopped us and he was driving the bus he told us the only reason why he stopped the road March halfway through was we weren't going to make it back in time for dinner and he wasn't going to do that to us.
I was assigned to 69th T C in Mannheim, Germany from 1994 to 1997. I love it. We drove all over Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, And Netherlands. Good times.

Should be much more relaxed at AIT. Should be where you just show for PT and training and won’t be in the barracks with the new soldiers and also free to do your own thing in the evening and weekends.
Christopher Chaos sweet that’s how it was when I had a break in service and got back in. Sent me to relaxin Jackson to in process but we still had some limitations. Couldn’t wear my cib or deployment patch. But hopefully since they aren’t infantry they’ll be a bit more relaxed. Thanks though man🤙🏻
Currently on my last year in the Navy, needless to say ship life ain't for me. Considering switching over to Army and this job interests me among any Army engineering MOS as I'm an engineer in the Navy which is a whole different world from Army engineering.

I wanted to do this MOS, but when I was showed the videos of what MOS’s I qualified for unfortunately the 88M vid wasn’t working or something and couldn’t see exactly what vehicles you got to drive and I didn’t want to make the mistake of being a driver for an officer......so I chose 63E10 (M1A2 Tank Engine Mechanic).
in a year I am going to try and reclass to 88M. currently I am a 12N Horizontal Construction Engineer and already drive ALL of the vehicles 88M drive.
I went from active to reserves and can say we do in fact do cross country from time to time

I was stationed at a NATO post in the Netherlands in 1968-1970. I was a 88M then and drove non combat vehicles like a 1967 chev. pickup trucks Ford vans ect. It was so much fun driving 120 m on the autoban in Germany and wild three lane highways in Belgium. The base was more like a vacation. No field duty, shooting our rifles no inspections. Air Force food and after eating they took our trays. It was a show place for NATO. Very small base. We all hated to leave. We would go to American German base to see the real military stuff. The best time of my life.
I’m currently sitting in my hotel for MEPS while watching this video, and I’m somewhat nervous about this MOS after learning you could possibly be deployed. Which is something I don’t want lol. I’m enlisting active duty, Army.. Is it possible to avoid getting deployed, or does it fall on chance? And if so, what are the chances for active duty?

Xv Jaay no you literally cannot fail unless you get hurt or refuse training. Even then just don’t go on profile because I had a couple “individuals” who went on profile in basic just to skip certain Important events such as the Ftx, rappel tower, gas chamber ect, when it came time to graduate they couldn’t make up these events think they got day 0 recycled ♻️ Just do what they say when they say show up to formation on time squared away. Red phase your gonna be smoked every single day for everything doesn’t even matter if you did something or not even then whites just you getting use to getting smoked and when blue comes you’ll be use to it so just don’t take em personally even when it’s not your fault but ALLWAYS that one guy who can’t shut up lol 😂. You’ll be fine don’t get hurt Have a little fun with it and don’t get hurt I got a buddy who’s still there to this day because he wanted to get into a fight and tore his muscle in his left arm now he’s stuck on profile and couldn’t do the forge. Don’t fight not worth. Look at me rambling xD have fun man I enjoyed basic a lot more then I’m enjoying Ait it’s nice to have my phone but Basic was just fun in general

It's a good job to do. I was stationed in South Korea for 2 years. Be in the right uniform at the right place and at the right time. It's a real easy job to learn and to do. I loved it especially when we went to the field. You will be fine.

The people saying ait is 10 weeks are reading their assignment wrong lol... they are looking at bct which is 10 weeks. Ait is either stated as 6 or 7 weeks long, totaling 15-16 total weeks of training.

ya thats the weird thing. Online says that and ive heard others say their contract says 10 weeks too but a few soldier I had in one of my classes I was teaching just got out of AIT 6 months ago and said it was 6 weeks for them. So not sure what is up.

Does the army select your job or do you have an option to pick from a list? I guess I'm thinking, nobody selects being a cook and not everybody that wants to be a tank commander are qualified
It’s based on test scores (the ASVAB), a physical and availability. That would then break it down to the jobs that are available for the individual to select from.
Unless you signed up for a particular MOS at enlistment, bottom line is yes, the Army will determine what and where your training will be. But more importantly, what they need at any given time.

@@BigBossGrimskull the 88m MOS is one of the easier MOSs to qualify for so you do not need to worry about auto shop. 88Ms do very very minor repairs to our trucks like changing mirrors and mud flaps. So far I’ve had three trucks break down on me and the mechanics come and pick them up and I’m given a new truck to complete the mission. Don’t stress about auto shop at all in AIT they’ll teach you all the minor repairs you may have to do on the truck. Good luck!
