"If that were me I would have..." - No, that was not you. You would not have. In my experience the people who boast about doing something better are normally the ones that fail the hardest.
Stupid keyboard warriors don't know what they're talking about. If that were me, I would have been shitting myself. I hope the damage was minimal and I really hope the arsonist gets proper help.
