  • The windscreen wipers were not working properly on Lili the Volvo 244 sedan, so I get out the parts cannon and replace the relay and wiper motor in the hopes of fixing it. I also fit Scorpius alloys!
Guys check out ‪@WhitelandRestorations‬ & my bro ‪@PartridgeExteriorCleaning‬ here on RUclips!

Wow those wheels look great on your sedan! I definitely have wheel envy now! My 92 has the Poverty Special wheel covers. I bought an aftermarket wiper relay that allows the driver to set the delay, but I never installed it because I couldn't locate the wiper relay on my car. Now I know where it is thanks to you!

Just realized I did this exact job in the snow around the same time. The snow wasn't fun, but it had to be done, that weekend I had to drive home in the rain at night and it was utterly horrifying without the wipers. A real freezejob. I've got the same Scorpius set on Christine. I really dig them. I've almost got all the original tire nuts that came with them. I blacked out the center 'volvo' cap in matte black and I might just leave those on, I think it looks good even though I have 3 of the silver caps, still waiting for that fourth on a fateful junkyard trip to decide. Keep rollin'!

It's worth doing a bit of preventative maintenance on those original 240 wiper motors. Water had got into mine and under the magnets. The corrosion was pushing the magnets into contact with the armature as it turned which could have proved terminal if allowed to continue. A good clean up and regluing the magnets to the housing and it's working fine. This was fortunate because I couldn't find an RHD motor for love nor money. Great vid, channel and infectious enthusiasm !

Put a jackstand under the opposite end of Wheel spanner from the nut. . Then hit with a 2kg hammer. Takes any flex out of spanner and concentrates all the force to the nut. Even jack up the the opposite end to take up the slack . So when you you push down or hit. there is no slack at all. Ali wheels tend to tighten up for some reason over time. I carry a short length of Ali tube that slips over the spanner to double its leverage also. Saves me carrying around a jackstand and 2kg hammer. Lol.

wheels look nice on the 240.
For the 740 the OEM turbo rims were called Draco (15").
But you can also fit Hydra (16", 940turbo '91-'95) or Auriga (16", 940 '95-'98). I really like the Hydra's on a 740 because they match the boxy angular styling of the 740.
Nice thing about 16" is that you still have a wide range of tire choices. They are modern tire tech, widely available and relatively cheap
For 15" and 14" the tire choice is way less and possibly expensive. (more aimed at the classic car market)

Hey, is the separate earth wire definitely connected right? If so, the next best thing would be to make sure there is power getting to the motor

@@Involvod Man I feel like an idiot. I did not hook up the earth wire up. I didn't know it was necessary. I hooked up everything correctly and all functions, including the intermittent are all working. Thanks for the reply. I was already getting ready to order parts I didn't need.

Yup...the new wheels are the dogs balls, looks great. Find a nice set for the 740....BTW... take the 240 over the slug 740 any day. Oh to be ing Volvo lovers. Take care brother, hope you don't get the Omicron...just getting over it....it has been unpleasant, and you might end doing a lot of sleeping. Otherwise...press on.

Hey, not sure if it would cause it to choke that much but have you considered the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor? They can often be an issue

these wiper motors are bullet proof so it is better to clean them, lube readjust as required and reinstall, most of the times, it is a waste of money to pay for a new, crap one.
