Thx U CG! It worked at 1:16. I had Chrome Icon shown nxt to my .odt and .txt files. When i opened them, garbage showed as u've illustrated. I then followed ur steps to 'Reset all default apps' --> saw 'Reset' at far right --> clicked it --> went back to the folder w the garbaged files .odt and .txt files --> clicked to open ea. --> my sentences in those files were restored! History: I have Window 11. I don't know what caused the Chrome Icon attachment and messing up the content in these two file types. I did try changing the .odt extension to .txt and vice versa for the two files but both showed garbage contents. When i tried to open it with different apps, still it didn't work. So i was just bewildered. Don't know the cause but now it's fixed. Thx again!

An errant PDF editor gave me grief for hours... Even after uninstalling it, it wouldn't let me change the default. Thanks Sir! You fixed issue. On a separate note, I HATE Adobe for forcing me to find and use other PDF apps.
The file with the problem never shows 'Open With' even though other files like the demo file do. All I can select is 'Open' and it automatically opens in Notepad

@@goncalomarujo Press windows + R type "regedit" and open it, click on edit and then find, search for "nothing" and delete it. If the search gives a lot of result for nothing navigate to Computer\HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1168079844-1938742093-1230288376-1005\Software\Classes\Applications and then delete it from there

Hello I tried to open a .doc file in an old stand alone drive and it asked me to choose app to open. So I tried a couple and it wouldn't open. Then I clicked on Notepad and it opened but unreadable because it is now .txt. Now every file I open turns into a .txt. How do I undo the document? I get it that I have to reset default. But I also want to reverse those documents that were accidentally changed to .txt. Can you do a video in Win10 for that?
this is a poor way to do this, you may have like me dozens of file type to application modifictaions, you only want ONE of those removed, this method resets ALL of them now you have to redo all the ones you actually wanted as well :( I did not do this, it would suck.
