Because they are going to sell you a device you can pay for to find out that information at a later date. Why give you information you deserve and should know for free when they figured out a way to make you pay for that information? See 5:28

False. Not the way my digital Vectren meter works. When I phoned in for a technician to come out check it or I was flat out denied. The closest thing I got to an explanation was continue to compare to last year's usage. How's that for customer service? Bird is the word.
