I admire your attitude and desire to restore your Series llA L/R. Forty years ago I had a 1972 Series llA here in Canada with the overdrive and always wishes we had the safari roof. Trust you're aware of Maximus Ironthumber the RUclipsr in England and his L/R project. I'm 77 and starting to creak like an old Land Rover.
Hoping this one still drives when I start creaking as well! The safari roof is great! Looking forward to having more of a breeze through the car over the summer!
Quite a satisfying situation, job, and lifetime this. I did this once, with a beetle. As long as you have the time, a lot of time, you can really enjoy all the moments. Today such a situation is a luxury.
I love your videos, just so transparent and honest. I admire your simplicity! My dad had a defender when I was a kid in Scotland back in the 70's, and I have always wanted to get one at some point, and you are encouraging me to go for it! These old "defenders" are the way vehicles should be, very simple and easy to work on. Cheers!
Thank you for that! Try to be as “open” as necessary for it to not just sound like a made up thing. A different way of life, but a very relaxed one over the winter. They’re definitely something one should try to own at some point in their life!
Just discovered your channel. I have been a Land Rover person since the late 90s when I bought my 1959 SII 88”. My best limited advise is that if it is steel, galvanize it (chassis, bulkhead, breakfast, capping, seat box inserts, door frames, all the little supports and such) and don’t bother to paint it. I call plaint galvanizing “rover chrome.” I don’t know if there are galvanizing places in Norway. If you can’t galvanize it, spray it with rust preventative wax. Oh, and paint the axles and such with epoxy paint and keep up with it as maintenance. The next is that inexpensive pattern parts are often junk. Especially anything that is rubber (hoses, brake parts etc.). That being said, a new pattern wiring harness is a must The final thing is my theory of ownership which is that they are usually broken, but rarely broken down. You seem to have the right attitude and I am sure you will do well with this. PS my daily drivers are Toyota/lexus because the five rovers are for fun and wrenching time now days.
If you don't have one yet, I highly highly recommend investing in a headtorch. They are fairly inexpensive (€25-50) and are so useful you will question how you ever got by without one before. Love this video, I always find your videos so calming. I can't wait to follow this journey!
Simply amazing! Just love your content. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t, just a guy who loves his work. Even from the quality of the content it’s just pure satisfaction! Much love!!!
Having owned, traveled and restored more than 20 series rigs in the last 25 years my advice would be to buy and restore a decent bulkhead and have it hot dipped in zinc. No more rust worries. I did this with my current 88 and 110 and i they will both survive me.
Not true. You can best tell the condition of the chassis by getting under the car. The top of the chassis under the body panels is not subjected to salt melt and rock chips like the bottom. The outriggers and rear cross member are the usual victims.
I had to laugh at your comment about the driver's door opening, my first land rover was a series 3, and the driver's door would swing open on a left hand bend. I really like you're relaxed delivery, and smooth music.
This is a really reflective build you will go through and afterwards you will know everything about each nut and bolt. As you said, you will be responsible for everything but just allow yourself time at the end for a proper shake down of the vehicle before you do any great distance in it 👍I have always wanted a S3 in the blue with the white/cream roof they look fantastic. Good look and I'm looking forward to seeing this develop.
love the videos! this style makes me feel that we hanging out with you in your garage. You tell us things, stories about the car and then poetically with slow music and broll slowly youg get the feeling thats its time to leave :D
The 88 will be in very good shape and a much more unique looking rig. The 109” is more roomy, but more room than what I need for solo travel actually. I don’t want I big “living space” inside the car like in many builds. Just need a long enough bed and storage.
They was my question too. We have a 90 td5, that we mostly use for holidays. It's fine with a rooftop tent, but often I wish we had a 110 for more options.
great content Kasper. As always, your vids are very interesting with good aesthetics (even in the garage) and ive enjoyed following your story. Keep up the good work 💪. As ive said before, your cars put my 06’ Freelander 1 to shame.
Love the content so much, it brings an eerie kind of peace and calm which I thought I had lost. Keep it up my man! Also can you share the songs you ended the videos with in this series? Thanks a lot man
Came across your channel and have been watching with great interest. I have just started doing up a series 3 1974 SWB as well. The only difference is, I’m In Melbourne Australia. Where you are freezing, I am sweating my nuts off. My aim is to get her on the road for her 50th birthday next year. Good luck with your build
Limestone white roof and Atlantic green body would look good in my opinion. Though I’ve always loved them in all black, looking all moody. Really enjoying these videos and the fact, as you say, nice finished, this one could potentially see another 50 years. And isn’t it ironic that, although LR series have this reputation for breaking down all the time, 70% are still on the road. What other car manufacturer can lay claim to that fact.
It’s some crazy numbers. Especially considering a lot of them has been used and abused for ages. So it’s not mint sports cars driven a few months a year either. Atlantic green and white might be the way, yes 🤝
You mentioned you're planning to sell the 109 and travel/live in the 88? I will be very interested to see how you will fit everything inside! The more I look at these old Land rovers, them more I want to get one!
did you have any problems using metric sockets on whitworth fasteners? also how do you want to travel in an 88in when you cant put a bed inside, do you want to have a roof tent?
i follow you on all platforms kasper, love all your content! i have a discovery 1 myself in white. i'd love to see you work on one of those some day. def don't have to be a millionaire for disco 1s!
Wait, I thought you were fixing up the 88', then 'dailying' that whilst you fixed up the 109". Once that was complete sell the 88". But @04:00 you said the sell the 109"?
Hey Kasper 😀. I follow your journey since the last summer and I am glad to see u settling somewhere and repair this old Land Rover. By the way, I ve a question for you. I don't see any mic on you : How do you do to capture your voice and keep a consistency sound ? Your voice feel deep without reverb even when you are far from your camera. This is a trick on post production ? Thanks. See u in your next episode 🙏🏼
Some parts are with a Røde podcast microphone, and the live talking clips are with a lav mic underneath the hat brim 🤌 a little tric I was told from someone doing theatre
You know that you can easily switch it to left-hand? All the routes for the steering and pedals are all there. Just need to make some new brake pipes and get a replacement dashboard.
I like where this is going 😁

A lot of time spent now, but rewarding stuff and knowledge I’ll have forever🤝

I hope the chassis is in good condition, but you won’t know until eh body is off. Enjoy it, and great work 👍🏻
It will be interesting to see what state it’s in! Hah

I just bought a LR90 and I live in Cork. Didn’t expect to hear you speak about my home town in the video. Cool
Congrats with the 90’🤝 coolest defender style

Yeah, you must know that feeling! Looking forward to taking this thing out on a proper adventure!🤝
@@kasperhoglund yes I loved doing my D3😁
This is going to be one amazing completed 88 when the time comes. Looking forward to following along!
This is really inspiring me to buy an old series and restore it here in the us
Apparently quite rare over there, but I’ve seen plenty up for sale on random pages in the states 🤝 take a look around!
you always have such excellent taste in music, id really love for you to share your chill playlist!
Great project! IF i was you, I'd deffinetly paint it in LR light green or marine blue with the roof in white or limestone.
It’s heading that direction 😮💨🤝
inspiring stuff, keep yup the great work.
Thanks Luke 🤝
Tremendous Kasper , great video
your audio is awesome! What Mic do you use ?
Great Video, Kasper!
Thanks!

Love to hear that honestly 🤝🤝
Quick question: why are you choosing the 88 to travel next year instead of the mint one? Isn't the 109 more roomy and in better condition overall?
The 88 will be in very good shape and a much more unique looking rig. The 109” is more roomy, but more room than what I need for solo travel actually.
I don’t want I big “living space” inside the car like in many builds. Just need a long enough bed and storage.

Can’t wait to see the next video bro ! Amazing ( from France )
Love the space. To tempted to rent something similar for myself. Just somewhere to tinker with projects.
It really helped me get motivated to do some actual work on a car!🤝

Praying for the Atlantic Green paint haha
I’m aaaalmost certain about that with white roof 🤌✨
YESSSS I can't wait to see it@@kasperhoglund
Can you 3d print certain parts? Like for the interior
Great filming and editing, though the task you've set looks daunting. I hope you have enough Zen to complete it.
It will be all right! Easier than freezing for half a year 😂🤌
What size tires did you install? And what rim do you have? Any modification to get them in?
You mentioned you're planning to sell the 109 and travel/live in the 88? I will be very interested to see how you will fit everything inside!

Mostly not struggled with it. And yea, I can have a bed inside the 88😎
Martijn Doolard picked one of these up, a youtuber, same year, from Tuscany somewhere, from some count. His is smokin alot. But this ride is cool.

Yeah, keeping 88 as a fully rigger car and selling the 109”. The 88 is cooler, and honestly I don’t need much room when traveling solo

Watching your videos here and on Instagram makes me wanna keep my disco 2 2002 and work on it as well 🙏🏻
Hi Kasper. Greetings from South Africa. Why the decision to move from the 109 to the 88 inch? The 109 seems a lot more practical for your purposes
What is that song? Please
Good video just found you
You know that you can easily switch it to left-hand? All the routes for the steering and pedals are all there. Just need to make some new brake pipes and get a replacement dashboard.
How much did it cost you?
So you can just pull and push the car easly😂
I want to do this.
Go for it!🤝
What you said at 10:00 might mean I experience some of the best and hardest days of my life.
