Citroen C4 review - Is it a proper quirky Citroen?

- Citroen has a fine history in producing great, quirky and characterful cars, but it has sometimes dropped the ball when it comes to its family hatchback. Is the new Citroen C4 another great Citroen or is it one to forget? I take an early pre-production car out for a spin to find out.

I'm a big fan of the new C4, it's quirky without being too fussy, and the comfortable drive sounds good too. Citroen have definitely rediscovered their style too, this is basically a new GS, but I notice a few other old Citroen designs here too
Think I'd opt for the new DS4 that launches later this year.
I previously had C4 GP that had airbag rear suspension and that really helped, my wife has a newer model that has a known rear suspension issue (noise) so I don't think she'll buy another Citroen.
I have a 2013 Citroen DS4 and I love it...
@@dast_uk I do like the new DS4 but I have a feeling it will be hugely overpriced like the DS3 Crossback is. At least the new DS4 will still feel special, in a way that the 1 Series and A Class do not.
@@dast_uk comparing a citroen to a DS is like comparing a Seat to an Audi.
All may be good cars, but there are very different
@@oliverstemp9132 I prefer my DS4 (2013) over the 2015 model and that's mainly the grill!
The new looks good all round I think, reserved on the 5" screen for commands.
@@chefchaudard3580 maybe on the newer models, but older pre 2015 there's isn't much difference, the front end is pretty much the same, the rest of the exterior has style against the C4, the interior isn't much different neither.
I have the DStyle so it's not fully loaded, for me is the controls on the steering wheel, (turning off dash light, turning on interior lights), and the other interior lights that makes driving more pleasant. Unsure if the C4 had the same.
Since DS is it's own brand I guess the changes are greater between the model's.
Glad to see you have started your own channel, best of luck!
nice review, welcome back ,keep going man
Pleased about the review, it confirms my thoughts on it, got a Shine Plus on order, delivery in May, can't wait.
Let me know how you get on Ken
All the best with your new channel .Nice review. I liked the interior of the car about exterior i guess all the cars of the C segment will look like this in the future .
I just bought a new c4 feel Pack. Will arrive in April! Thanks for the review!
Hope you enjoy it!
Poor you
You got a new channel? Good for you :)
Ordered C4 Shine 155ks EAT8.. can’t wait for it to come..
Amazing review, keep up the good work.. ☺️☺️
Hope you enjoy it Matt. Let me how you find it, cheers
Looks good. I loved my AX in the 1980s - it's fuel economy was astounding when I cruised at 65 down through France to Switzerland. I might get one as it sounds just what my sore back needs
Love Citroens they bring out some amazing designs. I've just ordered one for delivery in a month or so. Can't wait as it looks so different to most other things on the road.
Fantastic - let me know how you get on
Excellent ! Back to Citroen's roots!
A great looking C4. Good luck with your new channel James.
thanks Andrew
Great review. I'm looking forward to seeing your review of the DS7 E tense
Coming soon!
Great review. I like the C4, looks great and very different 👍👍👍
Now just waiting for delivery - I signed a contract on the "Shine Exclusive" definitely my kind of car.
great - let me know how you get on with it
@@batchreviews I was on a test drive, with a demo car. It really did overshoot all my expectations. The smooth ride is fantastic, especially when your significant other is very sensitive to motion, this ca is really something. The technical support you have with this car - everything from cruise control to adaptive speed control is nice, as well as the possibility to engage cruise speed around 20mph. Perfect, comfortable seating. The days to delivery of my car can't really pass too fast now.
@@batchreviews It has been a while. My delivery was severely affected by the pandemic. Now, finally, I drive around in my new C4. It is as bold and comfortable as expected and anticipated. There is a steep learning curve with this new car and since details alter over the years, I still have to adapt and get used to how to handle all the features.
Delighted to see the return of the heating and ventilation controls as proper 'knobs' or dials. I've lost count of the number of times I have almost caused untold carnage on the A3090 in my C3 while trying to adjust the temperature. Good move Citroen.
Knowing your driving, I can well believe it
Just ordered a c4 shine and collect on Tuesday. Let's see if its as good as I hope.
Citroen collector as you, DS CX XM 2cv.... I am looking for this unconventional spirit in new C4 and hope to find it.
I couldn't stop laughing at first min of video I thought you were going to put your fist through the sat navigation.
A very nice review. I enjoyed it very much.
Thank you!
Never considered a Citroen before, but this looks pretty stylish. Not quite sure if it will get me out my Infiniti Q30 just yet, though 🤔 All being said, I trust your opinions 😁
Now i drive a Nissan Qashqai and i am already sick of its uncomfortable suspension. I am looking for a car with a low center of gravity and softer suspension. One option is the Golf with Adaptive Suspension (DCC) but I don’t have the option of a test drive. I never thought about Citroen, but the new C4 is a car I could live with. Does anyone have experience whether Citroen's PHC suspension is more comfortable than VW DCC suspension in comfort mode?
My friend which one... C4 or 2008?
Where you feel better inside and more comfortable? Also which one is more quite inside the car?
Just ordered the Citroën e-C4 Shine Plus 2022 model with all equipment available. Cant wait to replace my old Mazda 6 2003 model 🤣🥰
Looks like a great improvement over the current /previous generation Citroens. Can't wait till they hit Australia.
The suspension and seats on my 1st gen cactus are just horrible!
Hey Batch, don’t forget the Citroën BX. I’ve got a BX Gti 16 Valve and an XM.
Damn! Haha, cheers Mark
First time I saw it I hated it. Now i love it. I guess this is how citroen works.
Love the c4, in fact love the whole Citroen brand. Do all car reviewers need to compare everything to a Ford Focus which has always been a dull dreadful car, anyone would think they're sponsored by Ford.
What an awesome vehicle!
Brilliant little car, especially as now as of 2024 available as a mild hybrid.
Very nice
I think this body style is here to stay. Citroen C5, Polestar 2, Model Y etc
Which is a better car to drive, a c4 or a kia Xceed?
Haven't driven a Kia Xceed yet - will do this year, though. My bet would be the Citroen would feel more comfortable and the Kia more engaging to drive
I don`t like the styling, but I know most people will love it, and in every possible way this is better then a Golf 8. How did VW drop the bar so low????
shame you can't get the 130bhp diesel in manual ..most other reviews on this automatic say its not very good and very slow off junctions and very jerky changing gears ..
Designing a car whilst enjoying french red wine...why not
All in can here is tyre roar
I just bought the new C4. This is my 4th C4. Nice car but a lot to learn in using the controls. Compared to my previous one, only disappointment so far is the missing front radar. Very strange weakening in the accessory. On the other hand, many improvements are made and the overall balance is clearly on the plus side.
It seems to be a Car for grown ups which don't care about stiff Track focus suspension
Watching a movie while charging
Good for Citroen! At last some nice suspension rather than this ridiculous teeth shattering set up on so many cars these days.
Think it's a good looking car.
Good presentation. Not so practical as before (carbuyer)...solo photos
The pure tech engines are not good news. They can be very troublesome for example cambelts can fail prematurely.
You should have called this channel "biatchreviews", it'd be more meta.

The Xsara World Rally Car was one of the most successful cars ever to compete in the World Rally Championship, stop talking nonsense ! I’m not having this.
Hi Antonio. It certainly was but I wasn't talking about the WRC car. The road car had nothing in common with the rally car.
Lol the WRC car is wayyyyy different from the standard one, that's like saying the Hyundai Accent is a fast sports car just because there was a WRC version 🤦♂️
@@batchreviews Great review, but Antonio has a point, the Xsara was a great car, they were really popular on continental Europe and do have decent handling.
@@donutdemon1 I had one which was awesome 2l turbo diesel it was lightening fast and it was a beautiful colour that I had mirror polished it
@@kinnonmcallister I have that right now :) Icelandic grey and 110hp 2.0 HDI great for motorway cruising, barely uses fuel.
7:20 It's an SUV, why not compare it to one, not the focus, astra and golf.
very loud, not sure if its car or porr sound quality
Can hardly hear what he’s saying!
Rly? Maybe try slowing it down idk
Actually I gave up, don’t know why I bothered in the first place, not interested in Citroen C4..
@@jezstokes8592 why did u watch it in the first place fool
You didn't miss anything
I want be buying another French or German cars, 🇬🇧
Good thing you have a huge range of British ones to choose from 🙄
@@btnbiker yes your right we still make British cars theres 12 registered British made and owned car manufacturers and there’s better makes on the market from other countries then French or German! 🇬🇧 buy British!!

Looking forward to the electric version of this , nobody should be buying fossil burners now
