I had to re-watch this one since I am contemplating a new wheel from my V10F and since your review of the MSP. I would definitely choose the lower speed better lower end torc of the MSP for trail riding versus he top speed. Most of my riding will be my morning commuting to work on sidewalks but when I take it on the trails on the way home and weekends I want that torc. Just having that little extra stable feeling from the torc at slower speeds on the varying terrain of trails can make world of difference. Not to say that he KSX is a slouch in anyway, but your over all excitement of the MSP really came out in your MSP vid based on your vast riding experience! Along with that you have no affiliation to any particular manufacture, that carries allot of clout and respect with me as well. Cheers
Thanks for doing this test Marty. I would be interested in seeing if there was any issue with the internal wiring. Mathias' test got me worried that if you run the MSX unmonitored, you can have a situation where you do little damage at a time to the wiring and at some point get the same issue like in Mathias' car push test.
I have opened a couple of my wheels that have been through a lot of riding like this (and where I'm monitoring excessive current which I always do when riding in tough conditions). I've never seen any indications of heat damage. I really think it only becomes an issue when excessive current is pumped through the wires continuously for a long time (> 1 minute?).

Unfortunately, this particular areas with trails already posts that bicycles (which we fall under in California) are not allowed. But the area is not patrolled and I have a low impact (compared to mountain bicyclists who race through the area) so I ride there.
Hi Marty, I want to pick my new EUC, and my main interest is off-road including uphill. I also want to limit the tire size below 20 inches so that the looks of EUC does not scare people. If you don't mind, could you kindly tell me your three choices of the wheels you would take in this use-case? btw, I saw your video of Tesla Multi-Range test when you tipped over on Tesla. Coincidentally, I also tipped over on Tesla recently. Though I did not get injured, my Tesla got toasted instead, and it is gone for good :( Anyway.. I hope you get better soon!
There aren't a lot of choices in the performance category. The strongest wheel ever made is the MCM5. If you enjoy technical trail riding that includes very steep hills, the MCM5 is better by far than any other wheel made. Otherwise, it's hard to beat the MSX. Endless power (and range) and the very high pedals are a dream for trail/single-track riding. I'm getting the KS18XL in a few days and I'll be testing that in the mountains to see how it compares to the MSX. Until then I can't say whether it competes with the MSX.
Marty, do you think the 100V MSX climbs better than the 84V or is more prone to burning up with higher currents? Debating between 100V and 84V, because I like off road and don't need massive range.
I doubt it. There is even some debate whether the 100-volt version has less torque then the 84-volt version. I haven't tested one in the mountains so I can't say definitively one way or the other. Just like the Monster, buy the 100-volt version if you want extreme speed. Otherwise the 84-volt version is just fine. As demonstrated in this video, the 84-volt version has all the power you would need.
@@Ssssneak The only practical difference is the 100-volt version is faster. You won't detect any noticeable difference in acceleration or torque. I have ridden the 100-volt version and it feels just like my 84-volt model. I generally never ride faster than 25-mph so I have no interest in the 100-volt version. Also, keep in mind that the 100-volt model has a smaller battery.
I don't own a V8, and the V8 is more of an older generation wheel at this point. It's nice for what it is but doesn't really compete in the performance category, IMO.
No, I have lots of experience with other similar Gotway wheels. So I have a good sense of when I may have actually stressed the wheel and this ride was not stressful.
Well my friend if u want speed go with the 100v but if u want distance go with the 84v remember if the owner of a 84v Set a course to race against the 100v the owner of the 100v would lead the pace, but would crap out on batt power as the 84v passes him while the 100v is Being charged! Its totally up to you my friend, just keep in mind higher speeds also means harder impacts if u crash.
Jack Volta Not so sure the 100v is outright faster than an 84v. Still waiting for a real test side by side. Of course more voltage means a higher speed can be sustained more comfortably by the wheel but that does not mean that the 84v can't reach the same top speed. Seems many variables go into the speed equation, the bigger battery also plays a small role. Not sure why Gotway offers this alternative MSX variant of the same model.
ohhhh :) the angle of the pedal is comfortable when you have been running? And of all the unicycles that you have tried which one seems to you better pedal?
hmm..finally got the time to watch this most important load test for Gotway leading wheel today! I must say very impressive riding up the hill with that speed..perhaps thanks to the power pad that makes push the gyro to give more juices to the wheel taking it up the final hills without issue except that cracking sound of the magnet flux and coil missing a beat! I already suspected that the X will fly up the hill without any issue due to its big transistor that is why u get a max temp of 59degree only as compared to the Z10 with tiny mosfet legs. All that i can understand..but what curious me is you keep saying that nothing beat the MCM5 and still held on as the No.1 ..king of the hills and X being no. 2...!! i better go look for the MCM5 hill test video to understand why....Good for us though because we are telling everyone here to just buy the MCM5 because Marty says it is the king of the hills despite being an older model to X..haha. Great video thanks to you for the test. It makes X great despite being no 2..(hint..perhaps the latest Tesla would be the next new king of the hill if you should get hold of one soon.! )
