Hmm for me is the best thing like if I want to do something then.. I’ll do it. But you see sometimes I don’t much of motivation, but watching your videos has helped me! Thanks! :D
Really the two biggest things you are: 1. A structured study strategy that combines reading as well as problem solving & allows you to prepare in advance without burning out 2. Consistency in doing the same amount of work & progression daily There’s really nothing more than that, with those things alone, you will do succeed. Anything else is secondary
Could not agree more JR! Last week I tried waking up at 4:30am every day (video coming tomorrow), and having that time before the rest of the world wakes up is a game changer! I had also written off the Pomodoro technique in the past as I felt I didn't need it, but waking up early paired with Pomodoro meant I had ~4 hrs of focused studying finished before class started for the day.
Just found your channel today after falling short in anatomy even though I start nursing school in January with hopes of going beyond that. Procrastination has been the story of my life to this point but looking to change that going forward. Thank you!
Just discovered your channel today and always looking for studying techniques. I’m a huge procrastinator and need to kick that habit before I go to medical school. I’m only finishing my semester of pre-med now so got some time but this video definitely gave me some ideas so I thank you for that!
Great video, JR! I am always trying to create good habits. One thing that presents a challenge right now is my work schedule because I work both days and nights (swing shifts). I am hoping by next month I transition to a daylight role which will enable me to wake-up early more consistently. I have always been an advocate when I was in grad school to study in the morning before any other commitment, i'd like to get back to that. Hope 2nd year is going well and it brings me great joy to see you continuing to find success in all facets of life!
Hey Milan! That’s a tough schedule but I hope you’ll be able to make that daylight transition! Thanks so much for your support and words of encouragement!
hi JR! ive been absolutely loving watching your videos. i am wondering how are you not tired in the morning and how do you ensure that the amount of sleep you get is sufficient to allow you to even stay awake during these early-morning study sessions? thanks! -an aspiring med school student
Hey Bethel! There are still days where I’m pretty tired in the morning, but it’s helped that the first thing I do is journal a bit and plan my day instead of studying right away. And usually after I do this, I have more motivation to get to work (and the caffeine has kicked in lol). I also go to bed really early which helps my mornings. I got this helps Bethel!
Hey JR, been following you for a while now and rooting for you and your channel! I’m an M1 and have found myself using Anki has my main study tool. Been doing okay but really think I need to change/add something to get me where I want to be academically. I know you’re a big fan of Anki but do you use or recommend any other supplemental sources? Lecturio? Osmosis?
Hey Thomas! Thank you so much for your support! I completely understand where you’re coming from. I would definitely use an additional resource to “learn” the material as Anki is mostly for “retaining” what you learn. I love lecturio and you can really learn a lot on that platform. I also use sketchy and boards and beyond as those correspond directly to the Anking deck I use. If you’d like to check out lecturio you can use the discount code “EVOLVINGMEDIC40” for 40% off. I know these resources can be expensive and I’m trying to get them to you guys for as cheap as I can.
Hi Evolving Medic, I keep second guessing myself on the exams( human anatomy and physiology 2). For example, I remember I change couple answers from the right answer to the wrong answer. After I finish the exam, I recognized my first answer was correct, so I had instantly regretted changing my answer. Any tips not to second guessing myself on exams?
I personally don’t go back and review questions once I finish. So I eliminate any chance for me to second guess answers. The confidence you have with each question also depends on your confidence with the material. If you know you put in a lot of work to learn the material, be confident in your intuition (the first answer that comes to your mind). I hope this helps and good luck in future exams! 🙏🏽
Hey JR, I am a high school student who wants to become a doctor in the future. For me my bus comes at 6am. Do you have any other tips for studying that could help me?
My biggest tip would just be to develop a routine. This will help you through high school, college and throughout your future medical career. Whether it’s early in the morning before the busy comes, right after school, or after dinner. Just try and find consistency with studying a few hours every day and that will serve you will in the future!
That’s a great question and it’s one of the hardest things to do. You could try watching lecture online at a different location other than your home (like a library or coffee shop) or you can make sure you don’t have any other windows or tabs open. All of this is just to limit distractions, so knowing what distracts you and focusing on removing that will help a lot!
Can't believe I'm rewatching this 2 years later as a premed student 😂😭 On the bright side I got an A* (93) on my A levels 😭😭😭 just wanted to share it Ps: I have an exam on Tuesday 🥲🥲🥲
What habits have been most helpful for you guys as students?!
Waking up early is the only thing I'm actually best at
That’s one of the hardest habits to build in my opinion. So you have the foundation for success!
@@EvolvingMedic Thank you for the motivating words.
having a weekly planner that keeps m organized
Hmm for me is the best thing like if I want to do something then.. I’ll do it. But you see sometimes I don’t much of motivation, but watching your videos has helped me! Thanks! :D
Waking up early never been a problem but getting off that bed oh boy lol
I definitely feel that bro! Lol. You can put your alarm away from your bed so it’ll force you to get up. But that’s definitely the hardest part 😅
Could you sit up in bed with an ipad and do your study that way? I do that sometimes. It's a small step at least.
@@gdaymates431 better than me, I’m pre med and do no studying for bio and I failed
Doing my Anki cards with walking has actually increased adherence to both Anki and my daily 10k step target. Double win!
That’s so smart! I might start doing that myself! Lol
This is really smart! Thanks for sharing, James!

That’s such a move bro!! And when you’re done with classes/clinic it’s the best feeling knowing you’ve already put in those 4 hours!

Definitely needed this video after my cardio block exam killed my grade 😭
I feel you bro! Cardio was no joke! But hopefully this helps in your future blocks!
Very inspiring and helpful! I originally wanted to be a nurse, but I’m considering medical school now! Thank you so much for the awesome videos 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And I’m glad to hear you’re pursuing a career in healthcare! Both paths are amazing 😊

Im in grade 11 but doing school in covid has impacted my learning a lot. You've motivated me to study more and find work hard Thanks
I’m sure Covid has really taken a toll on your learning, but I’m so happy to hear I’ve been able to motivate you!
Studying everyday, even if it’s not the same amount each day. I don’t have the ability to study in the morning. When you have kids, schedules change.
Since having my son, my schedule has definitely changed a bit lol
