You're very lucky that behavior is extremely rare in female cats, it's not uncommon with males but almost no females let you scratch their belly my partner's cat is a female and she does roll on her back around the very few people that she trusts but if you try and touch her belly.... the term I'm looking for is you might pull back a stump🐯
@leahgoldenoeoples30 that's normal with some cats. My 1st cat i had as a child HATED her belly touched. She'll get angry if her belly was touched but my 4 cats that i have now don't mind it. In fact it was how my oldest boy used to always sit on my lap

Only one of my 3 cats allow me to go NEAR her belly and I'm cautious. I get hints from her when she's had enough. Her sister ( nearly identical markings) doesn't allow it despite showing her belly and I respect that❤

I have 2 male orange tabbies that follow my dog every morning for walks through the neighborhood. Both will flop over and roll around on their backs several times during the walk. That how I know they are HAPPY and trusting of me AND the dog. They've been doing this for over a year. Starting one month after I got the 8week old GSD.
We're quite the spectacle and I've talked to both cat and dog owners. Everyone thinks it's so cool. They always look for the cats when they see me walking the dog.
My cat likes tummy rubs. Years ago my neighbor's outdoor cat would roll over when she saw me, even when she was pregnant. I'd talk to her about her babies coming and would pet her, gradually stroke closer to her belly while talking about the "babies in there". She actually let me gently stroke the sides of her belly. We eventually adopted her and the kittens because the neighbor wanted to be rid of them. The cat and I were good friends for years!
The tabby, Dax, that owns us now loves belly rubs. It is a first for me. And I’m oldish and have always had a cat in my life. 🤭🤨 He is a rescue who was approx 4months old when we met. Had obviously been living with/cared for, by humans. He is such a lovey dovey kitty 🥰✌️💕🐾🇨🇦

Great video. I have 6 cats, all are rescues. Three of the six welcome a brief belly rub. The other three would rip my hand off. It’s the biggest situation where paying attention to each cat’s individual reactions is key to a positive relationship with my babies.

One of ours is so comfortable with us that not only does he sleep on his back with belly up, but allows his head to drop lower than his body. Kinda upside down with belly up.

My furry man shows me his belly a lot, though hes very sensitive there. he never swats or anything, he has the sharpest claws since i dont trim them but hes never scratched me! except for when i allow him to make biscuits on me when hes happy and it happens while hes in zen lol
Mine certainly has never had a negative experience. He runs up to strangers and rolls over to ask for belly rubs. It's never a trap. He is an incredibly chill cat. Seventeen pound brown tabby. Huge cat.
I don't own cats, but our community is over run by strays. Recently, a grey boy cat started coming around my outdoor space. it was like he took one look at me and decided he wanted to be around me all the time. i wouldn't touch him at first, but after a while i realized he's not only friendly but hes super intelligent, funny, and loving too. He's a handsome boy, and very well behaved. He shows me his belly, and half the time he does't care if i rub his belly. His personality is tough guy, but acts like nothing bothers him. he has the perfect personality.
i think the best part is that not only is he super smart, but also the fact that i don't own him and he still wants to hang out with me every day. He chooses me, and thats a feeling i can't ignore. its a special friendship with an animal who is free and isn't a pet.
When I get home. My little girl meets me at the door. She gets her scritchy - scratchies. Then she lays down and wants her tummy rubbed. She has me trained well

My cat drops on her side and rolls over, you can hear a thunk. She does not like her belly touched. I either just talk to her when she does it, which is very often, or I pet her head. Otherwise, there's an attack.

3:02 totally true. Tigers often do that too when they fight, to double the number of paws used in the fight.
It’s definitely an invitation from my maincoon Bobby, he loves to roll over as I walk passed him inviting me to pet him. I always pet him and he grabs hold of my hand and chirps, no claws out just soft paws.
Both my kids are very attached to me…my girl was rescued from a harrowing life, but bonded with me as soon as I got her home. My boy has been my buddy for 8yrs…. Both always purr when near me and let me have my way with their tummies.

My girl loves belly rubs. She is a rescue. She lays right against me on the bed and wants that belly petted. But at the vet… she is a hellion. Hissing swatting. No matter what they do. Lol

My boy will walk in front of me and fall over into his side and then roll onto his back. If I don’t pet him and keep walking, he will follow and get back in front of me and keep doing it until I pet him on the belly. My baby showed up on my doorstep a couple of years ago as a stray. He is the most affectionate, vocal, and trusting cat Ive ever been owned by. 💜

Most of the times when cats roll on their backs and you see their belly, it's because they don't want you to pet them. Like when your cat is laying/sleeping, and upon your approach, the cat "lays" with the top of it's head aon the floor or sleeping surface, so you see it's underchin and neck, but blocks the kitty scalp.

My female cat enjoys belly rubs and belly kisses, especially while I sing 'her' special song about being roly-poly (rolling happily on her back). My male cat, however, rarely allows belly rubs and will usually make a 'mrrp' sound and stand up if I've approached him when he's lying belly-up. It's hard to resist that pose, especially if his front paws are bunched up under his chin and he looks like a bunny (and he knows he's acting cute, too). When he does grant permission to belly-rub, there's nothing softer or fluffier.

My 2 young (1 year old) female cats have been showing me their bellies since they were 10 weeks old and if I don't respond and pet their bellies they get upset. I never yelled at them but gave them a stern no when they act up. I had cats on and off for 30 years now but I have never experienced having 2 Velcro cats that follow me everywhere I go in the house. For the first 2 months of getting them they only slept on my bed which had me exhausted for I was always afraid of rolling over them in my sleep that I barely slept during that period.
Cats actually love belly rubs but they only love them from people they trust. When my cat doesn't want to be bothered she sleeps at the foot of my bed. hen I'm being reqrded for being a good human she curls up next to my head and puts hers on my shoulder. Her normal mode of sleep is at my waist with my hand resting on her tummy...she knows who protects her.

I have had my black female rescue, Aliyah, for seven years now. Hard to know for sure, but I guessed she was around a year old when I got her. She was boarderline feral when I adopted her and her story wasn't good. Fast forward to present day, now when I rub her belly, she stretches out and purrs very loudly. She's a spoiled butt and the queen of this house. I've had cats throughout my entire life of 60 years and she stands out the most.

An obvious but never-mentioned reason for turning belly-up, regularly observed by horse owners (and even dog owners): they're just scratching their back. They don't have arms that can reach behind; if they have a tickle or itch, they need to rub under something or flop over and rub their back on the ground. When they do it, try reaching under and rubbing their back to see if they like that.
I also have a cat who rolls over as a greeting: "You're home! Scratch my chin! Now!"

My lizziebeth has been my babygirl from 6 weeks and has had nothing but love and affection. She is spoiled in every way. I have a cat who flips over like a pancake when I walk up to her when she's napping, I don't know why, but I started saying "Thanks for showing me your tummy", after a couple of weeks of this I can say "show me your tummy and she flips right over" but only if no one else is around, of course, and she loves tummy yummies, as I call them, she'll also roll over on request, she's scary smart like that, I just love her to pieces!
