    Pleas don't think that your cat doesn't love you if they were in traumatizing or bad situations before you got adopted by them. They might not show the same affection or in the same way than you think they should or how other cats can. Get help from a behavioral therapist or a trusted vet who knows trauma signs in cats.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 5 месяцев назад +6

      I think hiring a therapist is a bit much unless you're a millionaire. I've adopted 8 cats over the years, all in varying stages of trauma. I adjust to the cat. They're all different. One wouldn't use a covered litterbox and went into full tornado mode when we tried to get him into a carrier to take him to the vet, so we took the cover off the litterbox and had the vet do home visits. Another one was found terribly injured; the vet had to amputate a leg. He's terrified of the sound of chain saws and almost died when the city was working on power lines across the street for a week. He stopped eating and drinking and went into kidney failure. The vet couldn't help him, and I think leaving him at the vet over the weekend actually made him more despondent. I took him home and fed him with a medicine dropper for three weeks until he got well enough to eat solid food. Six years later, he's still with us, and he gets a lot less stressed over loud noises outside. You have to read the cat and adjust to their needs.

    My cat doesn’t look at me too often and never slow blinks, but she sleeps on my body at night, follows me around, trills at me, and purrs when I pet her. Hope she loves me

    • @shroomyk
      @shroomyk 4 месяца назад

      I had a cat who did not do the slow blink thing, while my nephew cats do. My cat very clearly showed his love and trust in other ways, just as yours does when she sleeps with you and talks with you. Don't worry. Cats have certain common behaviors, but they are also individuals with different life experiences that may affect how they express themselves.

    • @retluoc
      @retluoc 3 месяца назад

      Those are good signs, I wouldn't worry about the slow blinking.
      If your cat sleeps next to you and follows you around while trilling, that means they value your company.

    • @cinnamonteak
      @cinnamonteak 3 месяца назад

      The slow blinking depends on the cat and where they were raised. Some weren't taught that by their mom. I have 2 cats. One does the slow blink and another doesn't. Both are so sweet and affectionate to me in other ways.

    • @PoopaChallupa
      @PoopaChallupa 3 месяца назад

      My cat doesn't sleep with me or purr when i pet her. She also doesn't like me petting her cheeks. Then again, she's out hunting all night and i rarely pick her up.
      She does walk the property with me. She prefers the base of her tail rubbed. She rolls over in the dirt and lets me pet her belly. She brings me the animals she catches to show off and tell me all about it.
      Point being, not all cats are going to check every box. Each one is different. It's obvious if you are their favorite person.

      Don't let this misguided video fool you, with its super-basic info (about how to tell if a cat is stressed or anxious, *not* if it "doesn't love you") and with its exploitative click-bait title. So sorry for the deeply tragic loss of your child.
      It hurts to see that this idiotic, uber-simplistic video made you feel like a failure, like you need to "do better." Rescue cats are often traumatized and have a hard time trusting; his own sad history doesn't mean in any way he doesn't love you!
      How beautiful that you rescued a kitty in the wake of such grief and pain, and how lucky your cat is that you want to keep learning all that's involved with loving him the best you can, and making him as happy as possible.
      Don't let toxic RUclips titles get in your head; with titles and takes on cat behavior like this, they're just literally making money off of loving, empathic pet owners' doubts, worries, and desire to learn as much as they can about how to care for--& connect with--their animals.
      There are plenty of more well-informed videos that will let you in on subtle signals of your cat's affection and gratitude and loyalty--even if he's scarred or distrustful, or mysterious in his ways.
      Most of all, no self-appointed internet "expert" knows more about your beloved kitty than you do ❤️❤️❤️

    I've got a three year old cat, Basra, who was born to a feral mother who abandoned him. He's the least affectionate cat I've ever known- Slow blinking at him makes him get up and leave lol. I adopted him at three or so months old and it took him until he was a good year or so before I'd have said we were even friends! But at the same time, he's enormously clingy and if something gives him a fright, he'll come haring in to get on my lap or beside me. I'm glad he came home with me, we know where we stand with each other and it saddens me to think if he'd gone to a family with children, or someone who wanted a lap cat, that they might have dumped him for being so reserved.
    Also, I think it was lacking socialisation or something, but the affection he does show is really messed up lmao. He'll thrash his tail violently when he's happy and just chilling, and will randomly reach out and pat me with increasing violence until I give him scratches.

    My cat started out feral, I allowed her inside after she got used to me outside. She’s still partially feral, she’s mean some times, I just give her the space she needs. She comes and goes through the doggy door. She has food, filtered water from a fountain, a cat tower, treats, cat nip, toys…she’s spoiled. I know she loves, me, but her living outside feral for two years, means she’s not 100% trusting and runs from others, I can live with that.

      Thanks for stepping up! My ex girlfriend brought one in after feeding him for about 2 months, whenever she found him 20 miles away living in an alley next to a restaurant. Then she kept him in the spare room and spent time with him off and on for a few months. He'd love bite and he would latch on to her arms and she had long deep scratches all over both arms for months. Sometimes he'd come out and investigate the house and the 3 other cats she dragged in, saved. Finally one evening he came out to watch the Detroit Tiger's game with me after he sniffed me out and he hopped up on my lap! Then he found a moth flying round and we noticed he could stand on his rear legs for minutes at a time 😄
      She was a little upset that he chose me the 1st few days but he ended up
      Up her butt 24/7.

      @@TyDomi ~ That’s awesome. Seems some feral cats just have it good and I’m glad. I’m glad you’ve made a new friend and I love when they watch TV, it’s so funny. Mine snuggles up and watches “Sons Of Anarchy” with me, seems to be her favorite. Thank you and your girlfriend for giving your kitty a chance. I’m sure it took a lot of patience and understanding, that’s all they need. It takes time, but they eventually find trust and start loving us back. ❤️
      I had about 16 ferals at one point, living in my yard. It took me almost three years to catch the original, she had three litters before I caught her and had her fixed. My feral now is one of three from her first littler. I was lucky, working with a rescue, I was able to get all of the cats, but two, fixed snd released. I did have two litters born in my guest room. It was a long two years working to get them all fixed, socialized and homed, the ones who I didn’t release.
      All but four of the kittens found homes. Two were babies of the feral living in my house, they died because she sucked as a mom. I was able to bottle feed one and it lived and a friend took her. The mom of my feral has lived here for over ten years. Sadly, I came home to a huge hawk sitting in my cement birdbath, watching under my deck. The last two kittens that I was unable to catch, were gone and then big cats started to disappear. I had to learn very quickly, the circle of life is 100% real. We also have huge owls that hunt the neighborhood and I’ve noticed the amount of ferals has decreased quite a bit in the last year.

    I adopted a feral cat who came and laid on my deck and was starving to death as a 3-month-old kitten approx. She would run and hide when I went out there and eat the food I left her when I left. I provided her with good shelter and she wouldn't use it for a long time. I finally started laying on the deck flat not moving and eventually which took some time she started walking around me. Pretty soon she was touching me and sniffing me and I didn't make a move. That was the way we started to build our relationship. It was raining one day and she was soaking wet and I grabbed her up with a towel and brought her inside. She was very afraid, I placed her in a crate that I have. Anyway we just went from there... I had her treated for fleas worms immunized and spayed an groomed.She is now living in the house with us and she is very happy and I can tell she is and she loves me but she is a little different than a cat that you get that's socialized. we're still working on this. One thing not mentioned in the video to deter scratching is redirection & positive reinforcement!
    I know this sounds wild but hear me out!
    I worked with children, youth & adults to assist in managing some of their behaviours..
    With my cats I taught them both to scratch their cat tree's (posts) only! I give them half a treat when they scratch their cat tree paired with verbal praise. I'll say,"Good job post!" Then once they got familiar with that I switched it to, "Good job scratching your post!"
    They would go to scratch furniture/anything else they shouldn't scratch. I would immediately correct it by firmly saying, "No". I would then gently pick them up, my hands over their paws, GENTLY! I would scratch their claws on the cat tree then say GOOD JOB POST! Give them a half treat and then scratch the post myself lmao just to label, "post" (vs cat tree. 1 word's easier to remember than 2). I would scratch the post then say post! In a positive tone. Then say good job post! As I scratched it 😂 I did that for like.. 3 weeks? It was annoying initially for sure. Because you have to redirect and praise every single time. But once they realize you'll follow thru with atleast a verbal praise, they stop the unwanted scratching.
    Both my cat's only scratch their cat trees. I do have to say, "Good job post! All done". after they scratch for treats like 3x in a row 😂

    I hope that the poor guinea pig (at 2:20) being ‘played’ with is well looked after. It looked a bit traumatised by the kitten’s pawing and the kitten may naturally see it as prey. Maybe the owner is trying to socialise the kitten with a pet guinea pig, but it doesn’t seem fair to stress the guinea pig or risk injury by mixing these two if the kitten continues to exhibits these behaviours towards it.

      Lol it’s not his fault he’s a cat! I heard a saying once: “Dogs teach responsibility; cats teach consent.”
      My kitty loves to follow me around and wants me to pet her, but only a few times before walking away. Then she comes right back and paws at me for more pets. She can only take so many pets at a time, even though she likes them. I just wait for her to come right back, if she wants to. But it’s important to wait for their consent, rather than forcing pets on them.
      Lol I don’t mean to sound preachy here! That’s just how I’ve always had cats let me pet them-go very slooooowly with them, and pet them on their terms. Some cats may just not like lots of pet-pets, and that’s their prerogative.

    I'm a foster for cats and have had one at home for months now. She is heavily traumatized and was hiding all the time in the beginning 😢 now she is much more relaxed with us, her family, but she still hides whenever a new person comes to visit. She is very affectionate when she feels relaxed, greets me at the door when I come home from work and scratches a cardboard scratcher from excitement, then turns around, meows and cuddles with me again 🥺 she also likes to sleep on our laps, she can't wait for someone to sit or lie down so she can hop on 🥰

    I take care of my neighbour's cats while on vacation. They wanted to find a new home for their peeing cat. Since I would be taking care of him for a week, I asked if I could do whatever I wanted. I set up a second litter box, used my own better-quality litter instead of the crappy sand, installed my drinking fountain instead of the tiny cup, and fed him homeopathic drops for a few days as he showed urinary symptoms. I left them my stuff for a month to prove it works. No new pee. They bought all the same stuff. It's been two months. It's the first cause of pet abandon and can be solved with common sense and some cat knowledge.

    I have never treated my two cats as my "fur babies". They're not my kids, they're my roommates. They've lived with me since they were 3 months old. I behave with them the way they behave with each other. So, yes, when I'm displeased, I hiss at them. Lol.
    They come to me to ask for belly rubs! They sleep belly up a lot when I'm in the room. They think I'm a weird looking two footed bald cat. Lol.

    Growing up with dogs my whole life, I completely DO NOT understand cats. Dogs seem to communicate directly with you, whereas cats communicate with their relation to the environment they share with you. They also do not seem to understand negative reinforcements as readily as dogs do, so I have to lead the cat toward good behavior. It's a completely foreign language to me.

    My cats sit with me on the bed/couch, they'll even fight over proximity, who gets the most attention and belly rubs but usually they'll sit with their butts facing each other and having a tail battle with both tails flicking at each other like swords. To really make the other angry enough to get up and leave they sit with their butt in the other's face and flick their tail. I use my mouse in my left hand and keep it next to to my left leg instead of next to the computer so neither cat can sit on my left side and I only have my right hand available for belly rubs but I also need it to smoke weed and drink coffee. I wish I had more hands.

    Every time I look at my cat it looks right back at me, it always meows and I say "is that so" or something similar. After I say something it always flops down and rolls over. It also follows me every where when I leave my room, because it likes to eat wires I can't let it in my room so I usually have to either pick him up before I go in to place him down as I close the door or I will have a chase on my hands. The only thing on this list my cat dose is lack of response, sometimes it will ignore me but when that happens I just go about what I needed to do and leave him alone, does not happen often though.

    I always think these videos refer only to indoor cats. My partner and I have had many cats over the last 30 years. When we lived in the city, in large apartments our cats behaved very differently to the way our current cats, who come and go as they please behave. When the weather is bad they are indoors and very affectionate. When it’s good we hardly see them except when they come in to eat unless we are also outside when they hang out with us.

    My cat pees in the litterbox but often poops just IN FRONT of the litterbox and i haven't been able to associate the possible problem because he does it even if i'm at home with him. Back to work, shower and while i'm dining he cry in the bathroom and if i don't go there he poops outside the litterbox. If i arrive in time he runs in the litterbox and poops inside. It's like he want to be guarded only when he have to poop. Maybe because he often does the same when i'm pooping. I can guarantee it's a perfectly healthy, happy and really calm chubby neutered scottishfold. How much i want to be in his mind...

    I think many in the comments section only think of 'Western' cats?! There are millions of cats around the world living on the streets in very poor conditions. Giving them a caring home, nutritious food, comfort and security is more than what most cats will ever receive.
    There are human beings that require my attention rather more than me trying to 'figure out' and change by behaviour for a cat?!

    My cat flicks their tail a lot. Aggressively flicking their tail, but my cat normally does that when he's looking out of a window. He flicks his tail sometimes when he Isn't looking out of a window and I've always known he's unhappy, but forgot what it means but my family always compares him to a dog and say he's 'happy' even though he's a feline. A lot of people I know(including my family) will call their cat a cat-dog that their cat's like a dog. Even so, their movement of their tails' means the same. I never understood when people say cats wagging their tail like that are happy. I'm gonna somehow make improvement on my cat being more calm/happy.

    I have to disagree...cats making direct eye contact can be a sign of dominance. They will make contact then look away - its not lack of love, but respect. Before we think our cats have "emotional" issues if they have litter box issues, have you changed the litter brand? Have you cleaned the box? There should be a box for "each" cat plus one. You as an owner can tell if something is off. Know your cat and trust your instincts.

What you then list are signs a person's cat may be suffering, stressed, or communicating needs in a way their owners don't understand; NONE of these things are signs "Your Cat Doesn't Love You." Shame on you for taking what would otherwise be an (somewhat, on a basic level) informative and useful article, but instead, giving it a headline and scary context, in a direct attempt to capitalize on crazy sad cat ppl's worst fears. I have a kitty named Ebony. She was just naturally wild and spicy. But she calmed down once she matured. My suggestion is play with him. Get toys you can interact with him. Like yarn or the little fishing pole toys with the little fish or ball at the end of them. That way you will wear him out and he will be more tame. If he’s your only pet, try getting a second kitten around the same age for him to play with.
