This is from a P.O. Box stream a while back that got blocked! Had to post this gem for you guys!! We HAVE to check her out more!! What’s next?! 🔥
Classic! Thanks for sharing this. We done been to Church!
Everyone on this earth has heard "RESPECT".
If you guys get a chance try to react to Etta James performing Take Me To The River with the Memphis Horns. 🔥💯👍✌️
Good one guys. Thanks. “Until you come back to me” is another Aretha banger with great bass playing by Chuck Rainey. Also, “Sunday Sermon” by her backing band Booker T and the Mgs is about as tasty as it gets.
the queen !!! you could listen to a ton of 'Retha and every one is going to be stellar. if i had to pick on 'until you come back to me'.....it's a stevie wonder song. UNBELIEVABLE
If you've not seen the movie "The Blues Brothers" before, the sequence with Aretha belting out "Think" in a diner is GOLD.
The Blues Brothers is wall to wall scenes with incredible musicians.
@Andy & Alex this ⬆️⬆️⬆️ The Blues Brothers would be an excellent choice for a movie reaction. James Brown, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Cab Calloway, and countless others make musical appearances in this classic film. Plus, the one-liners are epic. “We’re on a mission from God.” 😎😎
Agreement
We're on a mission from God
The John Travolta movie "Michael" has s great scene of Travolta dancing with a couple hot chicks to this song
Hey Nineteen, that’s Aretha Franklin. She don’t remember the queen of soul. - Steely Dan
Nice!👍🏻👍🏻
❤
You got that right!!
‘Retha😉
Combined with Cuervo gold and the fine Columbian ...hell yes
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses 😎 😎
We're on a mission from God.
Hit it.
Well thank you pal. The day I get out of prison my own brother picks me up in a police car.
@@robinmills8675 you don't like it?
You better think!
They don't call her the queen of soul for nothing
More Aretha Franklin: "Respect," "Think," "Feel Like A Natural Woman," "The Weight"... Start there.
The Legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section getting swampy! What a combination Aretha and the Swampers made! Then wicked Wilson Picket followed by the Rolling Stones , Boz Scaggd Cher, before she became a joke, After that came Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Dr Hook, Joe Cocker, Traffic, Steve Winwood, backing Aretha for several years, the they went rock and pop . 10 years with Bob Seger, 5 years with Glenn Frey of the Eagles, several rounds with the GREAT PAUL SIMON, 2 records with Rod Stewart,
For a Funky Groove that is nasty-good, give Queen Aretha's "Rocksteady" a spin.
Think. 🔥🔥🔥
In college I worked as a bellhop, and was called to her room at 2:30 in the morning. She was laying on the bed singing. For two minutes I just stood there in awe. She eventually told me she wanted a bottle of champagne, to celebrate her mother seeing her in concert for the first time. An absolutely amazing experience. She was indeed the Queen of Soul.
That's an incredible story! A once in a lifetime thing! Amazing.
Big congrats! Why doesn’t this comment have more likes?
Her mother died when she was 10. Can you think of something else?

You beat me to the punch. Some people have to make up stories to feel important
Everybody loved Aretha. Rockers, proggers, metal heads, Laurel Canyon singer/song writer types, country boys, and more. Her cross over appeal was phenomenal. An Awesome Talent.
R&B and soul fans knew she was great…everyone else caught on. UNDENIABLE TALENT
Ya gotta watch the the movie, MUSCLE SHOALS, staring Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd, Skynyrd, and so many more from the tiny town next to the river. It was such a prolific studio, it became known everywhere as THE HIT RECORDING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!!! Truly incredible!
It's a story that's still hard to believe.
Aretha was struggling before teaming up With the Muscle Soals Swampers. She was released from her contract and Jerry Wexler, the white Jewish Godfather of Alabama Soul & R&B! Signed her to Atlantic Records and the HIT records poured forth! She took the young Swampers, including 22 year old Duane Allman, with her to New York on some of the trips and the music kept coming.
Very interesting backstory, thanks. I believe some of the Muscle Shoals players were on a few of Wilson Pickett’s studio albums.
@@grungemusicfan Yes, and Gladys Knight too.
Good music is good music, it isn’t bounded by a type
You need to watch the Kennedy Center Honors for Carol King where Aretha sings "Natural Woman" for her. It is a treasure.
Oh my God, she wears that huge fur on stage, then slings it on the floor like it was nothing. I love Aretha!
@@sherri3575 and brings out the big purse!
@@sherri3575 I’ll watch that video just for the purse and the fur drop. The most diva of diva moments ever (I mean that in a good way)!
Yes! I was thinking about that performance while watching this.
She almost didn’t make it to the Kennedy Center in time to sing. She was supposed to be on much earlier. If I remember right, weather problems delayed her flight, and she stepped out of the limo about 40 seconds before she went on stage. No warm-up, just go out and belt out an incredible performance!
She's THE legend. I still remember the night that she stood in for Pavarotti at the 1998 Grammy Awards when he got sick. She sang an opera song and killed it!
More, please! “Respect” and “Think” are the bangers, but knowing how much Andy loves parentheses songs, don't miss "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)."
There's a great live performance of Aretha doing (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman (which was written by Carol King) at the Kennedy Center Honors - when they were honoring Carol King.
Check Aretha " Rock Steady" her funkiest track 🔥
And all these years I thought she was singing “I feel like a rash on a woman”
Four great suggestions but the second two are pure gold and in my opinion are must listen. 😎
@@johnnymartin49 How about "Rock Steady" ? if not familiar check it!! 🔥
If this type of music blows your skirt up, you boys would do yourselves a big favor by watching the movie "The Commitments".
Dublin soul!
1,000 percent, yes!!!!!
I don't know why you bother son, it's all shyte since Roy Orbison died.
In your best Dublin accent: "Say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud!"
“That’s f****n’ blasphemy! Elvis wasn’t a Cajun!”
Aretha Franklin always gave me chills when she sang. Such an incredible voice. I've been listening to R&B for a long time and there are scores of great singers, but I've never heard anyone that comes close to her.
YES! She's one of the few singers that puts goose bumps all over me! RIP to the QUEEN.
If you haven't seen it yet, you need to watch Muscle Shoals. Its a documentary about the recording studio that had "The Swampers" (yes the swampers that are referenced by Lynyrd Skynyrd). The Swampers were studio musicians that recorded for so many artists that its crazy, Aretha is one of those artists.
Didn’t know that. Thanks!
That was a great documentary.
Excellent documentary!!! The History Channel did a series on Aretha too that was pretty good, and "The Swampers" were showcased in that too.
That swampy guitar? Exactly
Great recommendation!
Those Mississippi musicians in Muscle Shoals added a new dimension to the recording artists they backed.
“Wow! What a Goddess!” Yup.
Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves - Aretha and Annie Lennox
Heck yes!
Simply the gold standard of vocal ability. Effortless and authentic.
Aretha Franklin is one of those singers that actually can give me goosebumps. She stood in for Luciano Pavarotti (world renowned opera singer) at the 1998 Grammys and did “Nessun Dorma” with barely a couple hours notice. She is amazing.
When the "Queen of Soul" can also slay opera, and not only that; stand in for the world's most renowned tenor at a few moments notice AND bring the house down, you know you're talking about a unique talent.
Aretha really knew how to do a dirty, tasty groove! My all time fave song from her (someone gave me the first release 45 of this song… a treasure!). Next, you need to check out her two anthems…. ‘Respect’ and ‘Natural Woman’ - she wasn’t crowned ‘the Queen of Soul’ for no reason! ❤️ 👑❤️
Talking about dirty, tasty, how about a listen to 'Dr. Feelgood'?
Another soul queen who should be on your radar is Mavis Staples of The Staple Singers. Check out “I’ll Take You There,” “Respect Yourself,” and “What’s Your Thing.”
You're right. After Aretha, into Muscle Shoals SOUND came Mavis, her Sisters and their daddy and some of their greatest music was born in the little Studio in the little Town with the BIG Sound!
@@kenperk9854 that’s exactly right!
There are few voices better in this world.
Please check out Sam&Dave, also from Stax. 'Hold On, I'm Comin''
Edit: They were the ORIGINAL Blues Brothers.
That Swampy Guitar is Jimmy Johnson of "The Swampers" The were the house band for FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals . If you haven't seen the documentary Muscle Shoals, you should watch it. It covers the rise to fame of the studio and how it ended up involved in so many great records.
That’s a good documentary. 👍
Was this recorded at FAME or at 3614 Jackson Highway? It would have been the same musicians, but not sure which studio they used...
Actually, looked it up. It was neither. They used the Swampers, but they recorded it at Atlantic Studios in NYC. www.al.com/life-and-culture/erry-2018/08/725d37c2fa5245/swampers-guitarist-talks-class.html
It’s Joe South on guitar.
@@jasonremy1627 they recorded, I Never loved a man at Fame
Then, Rick and Aretha's overbearing husband Ted white got into a fight in Florence. Aretha and the Swampers, with the help of the white Jewish new yorker, Godfather of Alabama R&B AND SOUL, JERRY Wexler, they went to New York minus Rick and ted and they never missed a beat!.
I'd love to hear Tell Me Something Good by Rufus and Chaka Khan.
RECORD FACTS:
Aretha's sisters Carolyn and Erma sang backgrounds on all her records--and vice-versa on their solo records!
Erma Franklin also sang the original version of "Piece Of My Heart" in 1967 (made famous by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Co.).
That's why she's the "Queen of Soul." You should do an entire series on the stars of "Motown" in the 60s and 70s.
Totally Agree. They should start with a Motown live stream!
Please get to more Aretha! "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man", "I Never Loved a Man", "Think", "Until You Come Back to Me"...you can't go wrong with the Queen of Soul. Goddess is right.
"Until You Come Back to Me" Aretha singing a song co-written by Stevie Wonder, it doesn't get any better than that!!
@@surlechapeau Donny Hathaway is on that song as well!
I LOVED WHEN JOHN TRAVOLTA DANCED TO THIS IN " MICHEAL" 🥰🥰🥰😁😁❤❤
Please, please watch this bit and her part in the Blurs Brothers movie

This reminds me... another movie to watch, that I think you guys would envoy...
"The Commitments"
The story of a guy in Ireland, who loves motown, and wants to start up his own band, to cover motown classics... including this song.
It's a cool movie, with a fantastic soundtrack...and the people who make the band, are the actual performers, who later cut an album and went on tour.
"The Commitments " .......on a fucking Suzuki?

I am so glad to see young people , like you bringing this on You Tube. The computerized stuff of today is not raw talent, This is what real music should be. Keep up the good work.
Now at least you can do Hey Nineteen and catch one of the "cultural references".
Came here to say that! 😊

Unquestionably, the undisputed Queen of Soul !!! 💯🔥👏👍✌️
I love Aretha Franklin. She is the Queen of Soul!

• Don’t Play That Song
• Natural Woman
• Respect
• Think
Next from Aretha - “Respect” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” the latter of which was co-written by Carole King, an incredible singer/songwriter y’all need to explore very soon!
I agree with all of this.
Respect was one of Aretha’s biggest hits. It was written by Otis Redding, another R&B singer you should check out 👍 She’s is an absolute Goddess ❤️
The Queen of Soul, and now you know why.
Could be the greatest female voice of all-time!
She was backed by the best session guys around, called The Swampers from Muscle Shoals. See the Muscle Shoals dvd for the full low down. Aretha was and is the queen of soul.
"Rock Steady"
Another great Aretha song.
You have heard Steely Dan sing about her in Hey Nineteen and they have used this song in various movies including Michael with John Travolta in the dance scene. She will always be THE QUEEN OF SOUL.
Aretha IS QUEEEEEN !! loved watchin you hear it for the first time !!
"I Never Loved A Man" might be her greatest vocal performance. Definitely one of the great voices of the last century. Watch the documentary "Muscle Shoals" or look for the video of Aretha substituting for Pavarotti at the Grammys.
You should watch her Kennedy Center performance of You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman - when she was honoring Carole King. Aretha was in her 70s at the time, and fighting cancer. She brought the house down.. it’s an amazing performance!
RESPECT should be your next Aretha!!! 👍
R E S P E C T: definitely 😎
Followed by the original Otis Redding version
Respect is a must listen to. I think she recorded it in Muscle Shoals Alabama with The Swampers, best musicians known at the time.
Atlantic Studios NYC. After recording "I never loved a man...", Jerry Wexler and Rick Hall of Fame studios had a falling out and Wexler took her back to New York. The Swampers traveled there to finish the sessions. All this is in the documentary "Muscle Shoals" available on various streaming services. Great watch.
RIP 'Retha! I used to go the Ravinia every summer when she was on the bill. Damn, so much soul in one person! Amazing. I would suggest - as many others will - you tap into "Respect" next. Cheers...
Aretha recorded a lot of her soul catalog at Muscle Shoals studios in Muscle Shoals Alabama. The house band was a group of white country boys who had lots of soul. Check out the DVD Muscle Shoals.
Bryan May has stated that Freddie Mercury was inspired by Aretha Franklin; that he wanted to be Aretha Franklin. I bet you can guess which song she inspired!
Still Fresh! Every time you hear it is like the first time.
The legendary one of a kind voices of voices Aretha!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️☮️☮️🎤🎼
Now that's what I call women that rock!!
Her funkiest track " Rock Steady" !!
BTW Questlove just Directed a Documentary " Summer Of Soul" in the theatres and on HULU July 2. All based on summer of 69. Aretha, Sly & Family Stone, Stevie Wonder and many more.
Thanks, jg. Will definitely look for that. I noticed there’s a Special on Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin’ On.” Airing this Sunday, I think. Also, I got Sly requested on another channel. It will drop within 2 weeks or so. I’ll let you know. 🤪
@@michelemichele3375 Woohoo!!
Just a heads up. Sight After Dark announced on a community post that they will do a Sly and Family song soon. They only take suggestions from patreon and I am not a patron. It seems a strange song for an initial introduction? Seems like it's taking more of a chance that you may not hook them. But maybe they have already heard the band's bigger hits before. She, especially seems to have had more exposures to a little bit of the funkier music in the past. If you have not seen them before, I would describe Ceefa's default facial expression some times, as a "flat affect" (in medical jargon) but don't let a first impression sway you. She is nevertheless perceptive and thoughtful by the end of the episodes. I prefer this channel, but I need a daily fix from someone!
@@Manageode Thanks!! , Just checked . There doing 'Simple Song". Actually if I were to suggestion something prior to Thank You that would be the one.
On anothThere are now way too many, reaction channels, it's become over saturated.
So much of her work to explore... Respect, Think, Rock Steady, I Never Loved A Man, just so many classic performances...plus she covered the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel, and made those songs totally her own.
VH1 did a Divas concert back in the day. Aretha shut everyone down showing the gals how it was done including Miranda.
Only one that could keep up to the Diva from Detroit that night was Celine.
If I remember correctly all the other Diva's bowed in the concert video when Aretha took the stage.
The Swampers were on fire!🔥🎶💪
Until You Come Back to Me is gotta be one of her best efforts.
The music I grew up with. How lucky we were. And how lucky that audio recording technology had reached a point that we can still listen to almost-70 year old music and the sound quality doesn't make our ears bleed.
Yep this song quality sounds great even though it was 50 years ago.
You guys gotta watch the two record industry documentaries "The Hit Men" and "Muscle Shoals" Between the two you get the who's who and the what's what about all the classic rock hits of the 60's and the 70's
Omg, this is what I've been waiting for , thanks @ Andy &Alex
Me too!
Andy and Alex bringing the soul. I like it!
The Queen has enlightened you. Try 'You'd better Think' from the blues brothers
her version of Bridge over troubled water is so moving. She is the queen.
Aretha Franklin was known, by everyone, as the Queen of Soul!
Playing the instruments behind Aretha's magical vocals are the Swampers from Muscle Shoals . The song was written by Don Covay who also wrote Mercy Mercy which has Jimi Hendrix playing guitar on one of his first recording sessions in 1964.
Aretha, the Queen of Soul. She was amazing! Recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL with backing band the Swampers. Check out the documentary on the Muscle Shoals sound. Think, Respect and so many more from this diva of soul.
There is a reason that she was called "The Queen of Soul".
She started out in her church choir, and was discovered by guess who.....? He started the "Motown" Record label...He discovered all of the greats in Detroit. Yes Barry Gordy. Too many stars to name, but he was the guy that discovered all of them.
Umm Aretha lived in Detroit but she never signed with the Motown label.

Queen of soul!!
"Respect" and "Think" are both bangers from Aretha Franklin. She had a lot of good songs over the years, so there's plenty more to hear if you like those. She did "Think" in the Blues Brothers movie. It was a funny scene and she killed it on the song. If you are going to do more movie reactions, that would be a good pick. It's funny as all get out and it has some great music, especially Cab Calloway doing "Minnie the Moocher".
And John Lee hooker doing boom boom boom
My 2 favorites!!!
PLEASE react to Aretha at the 1998 Grammy Awards. The Great Pavarotti was supposed to sing Nessun Dorma, but was sick, advised by M.d. to not sing. They say backstage was total panic. Aretha stepped in. BLEW THE PLACE AWAY.
