The city has always been over protective of those Poles for god only knows why. I remember a small drum circle forming around one outside The Spectrum after a show and 2 cops on horses rode up. One cop grabbed the guy drumming and smashed his head against the pole. Then told us to disperse. To many cameras today to get away with that horse poop. Pun intended
It's a rust inhibitor. They will last longer, other cities just haven't figured it out yet.
