Good practice with su25t is to use the autopilot "a" (except in case when you fire 9a4172). This way plane steers it self on the direction of the shkval lock but keeps the altitude. Very handy especially with bombs.. great video!!
I've found the autopilot to be super helpful. The SU25T has a tendency to drift around a lot when their is no input, is this normal or something I am doing incorrectly? This happens even with a balanced loadout.
One tip with the Vikhr missiles. You don't have to wait for the count down on the left side to fire the next missile. If you toggle the laser off and on, you get LA straight away again and bypass the count down. Thanks for these tutorials they are great!
Amazing stuff dude, just got into DCS World maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago trying to find out if it was still my thing after like 15 years since i was playing Novalogic and Jane's sims with a serial joystick, Watched all your tutorials, i still hate the circle that points nowhere near waypoints in INS mode and my landing rate is still 50%, but im getting better, I just rained ordinance over some tanks, emptied all my pylons and brought down 2 helis, i even dodged some manpads (i remembered from one of your analysis videos that you ought to fly low to lose AA locks), You're legit helping build a community and im eternally grateful for getting me back into flying sims
If you want to improve your landings, start low with a slow aircraft. After you're getting satisfied with the landing results of that slow aircraft, move to a faster aircraft and try to get it to work aswell, untill you will be able to pull it off, at least 95% of the time. The problem is that some pilots go for the landing when they shouldn't due to a vast number of factors.
It's better if you slew the sensor to the target, not moving the plane. It's crucial the plane to be centerd (it's easier to break the lock if you are not straight) So don't align yourself with pitch, row, yaw. Instead slew the Shkval (Шквал) to the target. Otherwise very good and informative tutorial
The FC3 planes seem just as good as FF planes just without click able cockpits. Going into options there's tons of key shortcuts for different systems.
I have great difficulty actually seeing targets in the TV for some reason.....May a time I have thought I have a target and it's a bloody tree LOL. Is there a way of taking off the name of the target as the wording gets in the way of my visual preference.
Yes, you can toggle through the labels mode, one has names, one has a little bar with color over it, one has a black dot over it, and one has nothing over targets/friendlies on the ground/air. Check the labels in the settings.
Its easy when paused, but mental to use this primitive targeting system while closing in. Not to mention how close you should be in the first place to begin trying to find a target and lock on it. Its also strange that this air to ground bomber has a manual lock on target system, while it auto locks on air targets with air to air missiles. AND there is this simplification section in key assign menu. "Lock on next/closest ground target", but its not working! Or does it?
I'm actually finding the TV guidance systems to be fairly intuitive with the proper HOTAS setup (And I'm using the X-56, for shame). as long as I put the sensor close to the target before I get too close, the target is as good as dead. My only annoyance being the Vikhr's are beam riders, making it so I can't hit multiple targets in one pass. at least not yet.
the su-25t does not autolock on air targets, it has infrared missiles which are locking onto the target by detecting the heat, these are borderline always automatic for every plane, as far as the simplified controls go, they are for the "game" mode something similair in a way to arcade battles in warthunder but dont even bother with it as its terrible compared to dcs
Thanks for this video. I just started playing the game and was a little bit uncertain about if this is a lack of skill or these are weapon capabilities that I couldn't take several targets in one run with laser guided missiles.
Anyone got any suggestions for MANPADS when running in, I often take a missile to the face while trying to lock something up. They're impossible to spot
well the su-25t lets you take a hell of a lot of s-5 rockets with you which are quite good for area suppression so if you have a vague idea of where the manpads is a burst of rockets might just help you out
If there is no air threat I like to work my way in tangentially, slowly edging along the outer limits of the known enemy ground forces. I come in fast and pick a target on the outside of their position, take a shot and break away by about 90 degrees as soon as my missile impacts, dropping a flare/chaff duo as I turn, and hit the deck. This way I can whittle away some defenses while kind of doing recon and avoiding most defenses. I loiter this way and only work deeper into their position when I am fairly confident in what defenses are left.
MANPADS are quite limited in Range and Altitude. Stay above 3000m/10000feet and you should be good. Other than that, dont fly directly above your target. Depending on the weapon you are using, break off and fly away from the enemy as soon as possible. For laser guided munitions, keep the target just within the slew limits of your targeting pod, and as soon as the weapons hit, pop some flares and go cold. Keep your eyes out the window anytime you possibly can, to spot a launch early. If done correctly, MANPADS wont really be a thread anymore. When lauched upon, pop flares, not chaff. Maneuver your aircraft to keep the missile either to your 3 or 9 o`clock, that way the missile will need to maneuver the most to catch up to you. Constantly change Altitude and direction while poping flares. Pull hard on the stick, make your turns agressively.
Manpads only have 3 or 4 missiles available (which are quite easy to defeat) and they won't fire at you if you're flying high enough (~15.000+ft / ~5000+ meters). Make several passes at the edge of the manpad's range, looking down. When you see the manpad's missile smoke, kill engine thrust and flare, that should be enough to defeat the missile(s). Rinse and repeat 3 more times, until the manpad(s) run out of missiles, then you'll be free to run in at lower altitude (you'll still need to keep an eye on AAA fire, though). Alternatively, since the manpad's missile smoke will pinpoint its location, you can simply memorize it, point your shkval in that direction and look for the manpad. When you find it, blow it up with a vikhr (vikhrs outrange manpads)
How do you lock onto the actual ground target? I see you press target lock to get a terrain lock but I press target lock button and I lose terrain lock.
its automatic ... when you are over a target its adquired automatically (its can take some time or maybe just get closer to it)... you CAN shoot without the AC most of the missiles anyway
On a separate note what system are you guys running? Your display looks crystal clear and very sharpe, I can hardly make out the numbers on mine. And the cockpit looks defined and sharpe too. Does it look like that in VR if so how? Lol
You mentioned the Mercury Pod and how to turn it on. I turned mine on in training, but I am unable to get the images to light up on my tv in my aircraft. I can't see the lights, buildings, and I can't see my ground target through the Mercury Pod. Everything is black. Did my game not install correctly or something, or what am I missing? I won't be able to do any night missions at all if I don't solve this problem. Edit: I did a little research on the Mercury Pod in DCS, and I don't seem to be the only one with the problem. I came across a few comments that describe the same issue I have. It seems that the Mercury Pod imaging wasn't modeled correctly when the training videos were made. They remodeled the imaging system in the Mercury Pod and put it in the new update. But somehow, when I got the game just a few days ago, I experience the problem as if it was never fixed. I hope to come across this said update file, but I don't know if I will have any luck finding it as I downloaded the free version of this game on Steam.
It is much harder without a eyetracker because u have to use one hand to look on the shkval and the other hand for aiming it so u have to use autopilot
If you don't have a proper trackir headtracker or ir headtrackers you can use aruco marker head tracking, for that you need a printer, cardboard, and some sort of head mount (like a headband)
Ah, I was trying the in game tutorial, I managed to get the first one to fire. The second one just wouldn't work, it said nothing about the laser overheating or whatever, maybe that's where I was going wrong. It's quite tough lining it up on the fly yeah.

trying to lock a target isn't fiddly its horrible. First time i tried it it instantly locked. After that i wasn't able to do it again. Even though i restartet my mission and had the exact same speed, height and direction as before. Tried it like 10 times.
