1. Don't sleep on a painful hip, you can use a pillow to avoid putting pressure on it, either between legs or at your back.
2. Distribute your weight evenly when standing, avoid holding heavy weights against one hip for prolonged periods.
If standing for a long time, use cushioned inserts or march in place.
3.avoid sitting for long periods or crouching. If driving long distances, try to stop occasionally for a walk.
4. When walking, avoid striking ground with your heel first. Shorten your stride and hit floor with the flat of your foot instead.
5. If your hip pain flares up, use a cane. Hold the cane in hand opposite to painful hip. Avoid stairs and hill climbing during flare ups.
'Treat your own hip' by Robert McKenzie (book recommendation)
You're welcome 🤗
Thank you for the tips.
Aren't you just repeating what Bob and Brad discussed?
@@musiclady49 that's the point- to summarise what it is in the video for those who don't have time to watch 🙄
Im so guilty with #2. I like to lean on my right side and sure enough hip pain comes after
Thanks!!
I am presently taking physical Therapy at a facility that is quiet expensive ,but do the exact things Bob and Brad are teaching for free online. I an so happy that so many people can now benefit from theses exercises they might not be able to afford. Thank you guys so much. It's a wonderful service you are offering.
Same here, Mary. I finally cancelled therapy and now I'm achieving better results at home.
My Dpt subscribe to these guys
I cured my ankle with help of this channel when I sprained it..twisted actually n had a ligament tear..now it's healed fully
@@christrickett3291 calm down dude... she's actually vindicating the advice we're getting for free...I found her comment useful, as someone who can't afford that therapy myself
I when you say now
you need a new hip?
Even a simple remedy is reliving pressure on the hip through weightloss. I lost 40 pounds and this made a huge difference to knee, hip and ankle pain.
Well done. 👍 You must have been huge!
Thank you for the encouragement. I am on a weight loss program and hope to lose 25-30 lbs. I am hoping that it helps my hips and knees and feet.
what was the single most important new step in your weight loss?
I lost over a hundred pounds by intermittent fasting and time restricted eating.
Well Roger, you probably won't be spending Christmas in Sweden.
Hello you lovely guys
I have been suffering chronic hip pain for a year ...I was unable to walk despite taking pain medication and Tramadol...it was 24/7 torture 😢...till I saw your video. I no longer go to sleep in agony and wake up in agony. I practice your methods ...it works!
Thank you so much 💓
Maria
Also eat gelatine - very helpful!
I love watching you both and learning more about how to fix my various painful areas. I cannot always comment because I watch you both on my TV on RUclips. I watched 3 shows tonight and had to come to my computer to comment on how much I appreciate you both. Also, I ordered the book "Treat Your Own Hip" because you recommended it. Thank you and please keep making your videos!
I found your video tonight as I was falling asleep. I did a couple of your exercises for my bad hip ( osteoarthritis) and I must admit you guys know EXACTLY what you are talking about. Thank you ❤️💯✨
Try bridging for you hips..it works
MORINGA! look it up on RUclips.
Yes they are good
I've been having hip pain and lower back pain for a while now and you're right. I tend to sleep on the painful side every night and awake several times to change positions. I often end up back on that side to face my wife and hug her😁. I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left shoulder and lower back. Thnx for the advices and I plan to start right away on it. 🤓
I love your information! Thank you for all of your wonderful tips! I had hip pain for 20 years or so- I tried many things and finally discovered what the matter was. For me, it’s my structure- the way I am made- but I did find relief. I taught myself to sleep on my back, with support under my knees and no pillow. I am pain free for the last 5 years.
You guys fixed my nerve pain that I was put on lyrica for 7 years... you explained the I.T. BAND. I bought a fascia gun and am loosening my fascia and finding amazing relief. Thank you for changing my life! I had that pain for 10 years. Love you guys 🇦🇺😘
What's a fascia gun?

Thanks Bob , Thanks Brad. You guys are so funny, I’ve put the pillow between my legs, almost instant relief. Much appreciated. Keep up the good work.
I want a fascia gun!
I've had hip pain for many years. After watching this video I now know why and plan on making some adjustments. Thank you Bob & Brad.
Love the simplicity of your messages. Makes it easier to remember. Or, keep replaying your videos!👍🏻😀
Ho sir 49yrs female having severe burning in both legs n warm sensation in hips.dr.says itt may be hip gout. How to stop my burning. Pls help
1. Don't sleep on a painful hip
2. Equalize your stance; march in place
3. Don't sit with knees higher than hips
4. Don't strike with the heel, when walking
5. Decrease weight on the hip, including stairs, steps, uneven surfaces - use a cane
Thanks, Guys!
Thx for the summary!👍
Thanks! I wish they'd put the information like this in the comment section of all their videos.
Thanks MsBizzy!
Man i love summaries. These guys should always have that at the end of each video
@@the_alchemy_method admittedly it might be handy, but we can write our own notes as we go. ALL video creators know that if they start giving lists people do not watch the video, and go straight to the list. That's bad for us as viewers if we do that, as we do not get adequate information, and bad for video creators when it comes to RUclips whose algorithms keep tabs on everything.. including how much time people spend on a video.
You guys rock! I turn all my patients on to you when I see people with musculoskeletal problems in the urgent care! I use your help myself. What a wonderful public service!!
Didn’t know that about not sitting with knees above hips! I’ve been sitting and putting my feet on a step stool which made my knees higher than hips. That may have contributed to my recent hip pain! Thank you!11
I love these two. For some reason they remind me of the two men in the box in the muppets. 😂 Statler and Waldorf !
I my gosh yesss 😂
That’s so true! It’s the way they talk back and forth to each other- in a funny way?
That's hilarious! 😂🤣 I love these 2 so much.
Hmmm 🤔
😂😂😂 that’s good
Thank you for all your free gifts of great advice that you give us everyday ! I am blessed by your generosity across the world in Plettenburg Bay RSA ! God bless you !
You people are amazing, I have been struggling with tight hips for two years. I am a martial artist but can't kick high. This video of your helped me a lot.
How long did it took to rest?
You gentlemen are fun to listen to entertaining and most of all you are changing my life God bless you for the work that you do
All your posts are so helpful. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the reminders guys. Hard tio break ingrained habits so good to have them pointed out. Heres another one my chiropractor mentioned i can pass on.. Dont sit with your legs crossed except at ankles. Thats a tough one!! Very hard to break. Apprec all your pearls of wisdom and for making me chuckle too.
Thanks for adding that tip, mary discuillo! I'll have to try working on that. I have noticed, though, that crossing my legs fully gives a nice stretch, at least in some chairs.
As someone living with hip pain (history of major surgeries to hip and femur) I can attest that I do all this bad stuff and trying to correct it does make a difference. I swear, the more that hip hurts the more I'm likely to sleep on it, stand off balance, bend awkwardly - all that stuff adds up. Really appreciate the good advice here gentlemen, it's spot on 👏

I just Love these Chaps
They are Professionals in their field but present the programmes with a hint of humour along with Common Sense.
Great Thankyou .
This was so helpful!! Thank you! I have automatically used the pillows between legs and tucked behind my back to sleep. Just felt like I needed it. I started doing it at the hospital with spine surgery ( this time lumbar 3 and 4 with Robotic surgery and it was a little easier than the last one for sure!! I asked the nurses for extra pillows. But need hip surgery after awhile on the left side first, but would rather try this now!! I may die with all this surgery!?
Right now it is Bone on bone on the right knee now too (cortisone shots needed)and the left knee had Total Knee Replacement already, I am 70 yrs old and now my body has to act like this and wear out! I was very active. I do reluctantly use the cane sometimes but keep trying without it, but am only 8 wks from that spine surgery, and the knee and hips are acting up, and to be honest some days, I do not feel like I am can trust my balance totally.
Thank you for all you are showing here to help in order to keep us moving properly and maybe being able to save ourselves from some of the surgery, if that is possible, for us? It is very helpful to know more about what to do in 'other ways',
You’re so refreshing and positive. Thank you for all you do.😃
Thank you for the very informative video! Many of these habits I have. Big help my Dr. has never addressed.
Yup - you know what you are talking about. I have mostly converted to being a back sleeper (with pillow under my knees) due to hip issues that started mid-January. Hip-strengthening exercises have helped immensely. I have no "extra meat" on me for cushioning. I usually catch myself trying to sleep on my side (habits are hard to break). I understand side-sleeping fetal position is especially bad. Thanks for the tip on cane.
Thanks for the information, I’ve been making a lot of mistakes
Thanks the B square.I've been asking myself why my hip has gone crazy but now I know why.
OhMyGawd. I always sleep on my painful hip because it is more painful the other way. Of course, now I know why. It is because I do not use a pillow between my legs. As for sitting, I figure if I am going to endure pain getting up, I will not get up so much. I will look up the tutorial video for using a cane and the recommended book. Thanks so much for the common sense/logic nudge and your videos with helpful information.
yes the pillow honestly works wonders. i had to do that when my hip was throbbing and the pain went down my leg and i couldn't sleep. 3 days of using a pillow and my hip feels alot better
Thank you so much. I will definitely order that book. Blessings to you both.
Thank you for the soldier comment ‼️I was in the USAF and was trained to march by striking the heel. Learning to walk with a flatter stride and listening to you both 🔥💯 Grateful for your tips and channel ‼️
Yes! UAN vet here! I caught on to the marching. Gonna be hard to change my step stride!
Yep great tips. Unfortunately I have to sleep on the sore hip because I have an a old injury in my C2 spine and if I attempt to sleep on my back or my left side I wake up with a bad headache. I did figure out on my own to lean back and put a pillow behind me just like you illustrated. Thanks guys, your tips have helped me so many times!
thanks guys
Good advice, matter of fact excellent advice, and advice I will follow until the end of my journey.
Thank you for all these great videos. You two are the best. Respect!
Valuable information -- for free. Thank you Bob and Brad.

Thank you so much for these tips. I have the worse hip sciatica pain I ever could imagine I hope this will help me, cuz my tears are never ending
Wanda, look for a Chiropracter who does Active Release Therapy or ART. It really works.
Wanda have you had epidurals for your pain ?
Thanks so much
Thank you for all of your amazing videos!!
Thanks
Thanks guys, i have sleep apnea and have slept on my sides for years, and now have hip pain due to sleeping on my sides all the time - im gonna give it a shot to slightly rolling back onto my glutes a lil' more . . ...
You always seems to know exactly what you are talking about bro(s) 🥰👌Hope you keep it coming ty so much 🙏
Thanks for the tips especially the pillow tip
I try to walk backwards every now and then. Seems to help? What do you guys think. Thanks for these extra tips.
Hi Bod & Brad. Everything you guys talked about in my own discovery I have experienced it.
I do everything you talked about I this video. My low back, both hips and both knees kill me all night long. I toss and turn and adjust that pillow between my knees. I had the McKenzie treat you back book. It was awesome and helped a lot. I am going to buy the hip one. Didn’t know it existed. Thanks. I really need help.
Another great video guys, I'm suffering from all kinds of back problems, all stemming from my botched surgery on L4/L5. Now I get a giant invisible hand squeezing both butts, pain down both thighs down to my ankle and toes. My genital region Is totally without any senses. If I shoot water at that region during a shower, it's like an empty hole, I don't feel it at all. Your exercises are a big help to me, thanks,
You guys are just the best! Thank you for all the tips to help this aging body feel better!
Thank you so much, Bob and Brad
Thanks again Bob and Brad. You guys are helping a lot of people. Love you for it🤗
You have made a major influence!!
These video s have helped
me A Lot !!!
Definitely give this a try, I do sleep on my side (have done since childhood) and I tend to lean on my right leg, carried my children on my hip and also my grandchildren so that probably didn't help at all either! Throw in hypermobility and it's not a surprise really my joints ache!
These guys are literally angels working for the people to help relieve pain and to live life to the fullest.
My mother-in-law was dealing with hip pain for a couple of months; doc decided she needed a partial hip replacement. On the operating table they found bone cancer lesions on her hip and upper thigh. So sometimes pain is something more...best to get to your doctor for some pains that don’t go away.
Oh my goodness! This Video is Heaven Sent! I appreciate you both! Good God! I have an undiagnosed Genetic Muscular Disorder! Have been intuitively doing these things and will be sharing this with our Neurologists and Genetics Doctors and Nurses to hopefully 🙏 Test the correct next choices for answers! Good Golly Miss Molly! Any advice would be gratefully passed on!!!! Nelson bC canada 🇨🇦. Much love 💕
Great advice about sitting with knees below your hips & not walking heel to toe. What exercises can you recommend, do you have a exercise for hip video? Thanks
ruclips.net/video/cNMICPmhQXg/видео.html
Thank you Bob & Brad! I have a nasty right hip that is always sore, which means for me very tight glutes, hammies, quads...you get the picture. I want to apply these suggestions and find the right exercises that will help improve my health. You both are doing great work helping people with their health.
Guys I have been suffering horribly I’m 67 When you show me that exercise I put in one leg on the floor on bended knee and the other one out front also bent....n your painful side foot and ankle slightly candid outward and then pushing forward with the glutes the back and hip that was the magical one for me I’m so grateful you guys were rightThank you thank you
Wow, This video came up on my home page and it sure makes a lot of sense. Thanks a bunch guys! Really appreciate your help.
Could you please please give me some stretches or simple exercises for chronic sciatic pain? I have had 2 failed surgeries. The last surgery they fused the L4-L5. Pain came back 3 months after surgery. Pain was from the middle of my right buttuck right down the outside of the leg right to my toes and top of my foot, about 6 months ago I started going to a Chinese Acupuncture and the pain has left my leg, but pain is still in my buttocks. If I walk to much or be busy during the day, the pain will come back in my leg, but after two days off doing nothing, it will go away, but the pain in my butt, stays 24-7 on morphine slow release twice a day plus pain pills when I need them, I had been sent to a physiotherapist once but they couldn’t do anything for me, because my pain level was too high. I go once a month for acupuncture and it is what keeps me going, because before I found Chinese acupuncture I was in bed up too 16 hours a day in bed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thank you. Sorry I wrote so much but I have a lot off things wrong with this sciatic. And I’ve had this for 10 years now and took me 4 years too get a doctor to believe me
Thank you for this one, especially!
hey you 2. I am a physio and I think what you are doing is just fantastic for patients and for the physiotherapy profession. Well done B and B !
Great job,thanks
Thank you lovely men!🥰
Thanks for the important information
Yall have been very helpful !!!
Thank you . Those tips will be helpful . I do some now , but needed more !
Love your presentation as they are so helpful ! I want more videos on stretching to prevent low back pain. Thank you !!
Right we (nurses) do position people off bony prominences. I sleep on my right side because my left hip hurts "some" cant stay on left much . Lay on back ok at times. Marching in place, around house gets me off couch; funny I am compelled to do this; it feels good to circulate legs and hips. Bike rides daytime. I have impingement in shoulders. Using bands. Yoga. And physical therapy exercises to keep myself in general functional. Thanks you two are so helpful.
I have hip bursitis in both hips. Hard to sleep at night as I am side sleeper. Using a type of wedge under legs and towards hip to lean on. Helps part of the night. But once I wake up, hard to get comfortable and back to sleep
I´ll do my best and always find your advice helpful. I live in a very steep area, actually the crater of an ancient volcano, so do have to walk up and down hill often. I need to find a balance between getting enough exercise and not doing any harm to my hips. Any suggestions?
I have developed GTPS over the past year. Despite cortisone injections and physio, it's worse than ever. I have frequently told health professionals that I relieve the pain by lying on the affected hip. Having viewed this video I will now try to stop doing that, as well as use a correct sitting posture (knees lower than hips) and see how that goes! Thank you very much for this informative video.
Soooooo helpful 👍😊🙏😍
Enjoy your teachings. thanks
Thank for sharing Bobb abd and Brad, God blessed you guys always 🙏💯❤🥰
Thank you.that Information is going to help me a lot
I am short and notice my feet don’t touch the ground on most chairs…..so I cross my legs instead of dangle them. I’m looking for a chair that fits my stature! My PT told me not to cross my legs and that has helped.
Big thank you!! New hip pain last few nights. (Sleepless more or less last night). Your tips re cause and solution are just what I need to look and explore. Thank you Bob and Brad 🤗
This channel is so helpful...Thanks Bob n brad
U guys really know ur “stuff” Thanks Mike B.

Helpful advice Thank You both
This confirms what I’ve been doing you can get a little heart shaped pillow that is great, cushioned insert. Also I wear Birkenstocks sandals the soft red ones take so much pressure off, yoga mats in the hall and kitchen sound great for my hard wood floors, thanks for the great suggestions. Get MOUNTAIN STICKS especially if you have osteoarthritis. Thanks guys ❤❤❤❤❤

This is so helpful! Thank you!
This is amazing. Thank you for your work, you do Gods work on earth. Thank you. Be blessed.
Nice info for all of us
This hip pain has just started over the last 6 weeks. Taking long acting Tylenol and using pillow at night. Aha! You said sitting with knees higher than hip is not good! I'll work on stopping that. Thanks.
Good one! I have been having hip pain and am guilty of two of these. Thanks for the info.
I’m guilty of always standing with my left hip out.
Good advises Sir tons of thanks giving
No problem! Glad it was helpful!
Excellent thanks so much.
