Thanks for taking the time to review the Nokton 35 1.2 iii. From what I could see, you are one of the only reviewers out there that took the effort to do this. I greatly apprecitate it, especially the size comparison vs the 50 1.5 and 35 1.7, as it's size is it's most appealing factor over its predecessors. Looking forward to more videos :)
You’re definitely the overlord of lens reviewers. I have the 40mm f1.2 which I love, it’s a very good lens that’s just one step away from greatness and that’s because of the temperamental bokeh and out of focus highlights in the corners. I say temperamental, because in some circumstances it’s fantastic. You’re the only person who put the finger on what wasn’t quite right… the weird triangular specular highlights… I do blame you a bit as once seen, never unseen. Having recently been sanctioned by my wife to buy an M11 I’m thinking the 35 could work as with 60mp I can still crop in a lot. Thanks for another excellent and wonderfully quirky review.
Many thanks for this comment (this is Fauxtaku from a different channel). I have never before been called overlord, so I will cherish it. I am really keen on bokeh, preferring bokeh that doesn't collapse to the middle (the 40 does not), and also love gentle oval cateyes at the corner, so these triangles really stood out. I will have another lens review coming in a few days to a week after nearly a year of not touching this channel. Cheers.
Hi, I own this Lens for a couple of Months now. Its my first real Rangefinder lens for my M9. To me its just the perfect all around lens. Travel, Portrait, Landscape this Lens can do it all.
Thanks for the review, there seems to be a lack of review for this lens currently. I am contemplating to swap this one with my zm 35mm which is a tad big a heavy for my liking
Glad it was helpful! The Zeiss is larger, but it has the advantage of not being Aspherical, which limits the amount of onion rings it shows in OOF highlights. This one isn't bad, but if you are into shooting nighttime shots of the city focusing on things close at hand, those bokeh balls will look like onions.
This is the only version I've had the pleasure of really shooting. A mate brought his version I to Tokyo some years back and I tried it with his M8, but that was it.
Right on man, right on. Which lens would you favor between this one and the Zeiss 35mm Biogon F2? I've narrowed it down to these 2 for an M8 and M9 coming in.
Nice review and pictures 👍 So will you be selling your no longer manufactured VM 35mm 1.7? Or are there different optical aspects of that lens that you enjoy?
That's what I am interested in too. I own the 35 1.7. love the images but not in love with the case design, and been weighing if I should try out this or the new ultron.
Hello, I am looking to buy a 35mm 1,2f II version, quite a few used ones available for reasonable prices. But ill be using it with Sony A7II. I was wondering if you could say something about the II version? Like compared to III in real world situations is the difference big enough to buy III instead of II version? What I am concerned about is optical formula differences, I have feeling that the bokeh differences between all 3 versions of this lens might be different. And I have read that the newest version III and SE made specially for Sony mount, are optimized to give better bokeh and sharpness at closer distances, while the older lenses might give better results at a bit further distances. I was hoping if you had any information about it?
I have both versions, it seems like v2 is sharper in the center at close distances. V3 is sharper at mid distances and better at the corners. V3 has more 3d effect. Its all shot on my digital cl.
That 50 is my favourite aspherical 50 and this likely is my favourite aspherical 35. I prefer 35 so I prefer this. They have somewhat similarly rendered soft highlight bokeh.
Hi, what about shooting moving objects with this lens? I am thinking about sony alpha 7c + close range adapter/vm adapter + this lense and wonder about shooting a moving object.. thanks and greets from germany
Many thanks for watching. Moving objects are easier to photograph with an slr or mirrorless than a rangefinder but still, they are hard to nail with a manual focus lens. Before the corn thing I shot events with manual focus lenses with no trouble but sports? No thank you.
I am using this lens for one week on Fujifilm xt4 and gfx 100. Sharpness is not important for me at all. I considered this lens for the general look with character and soul for my taste. On xt4 It is ok. no vignetting, no visible distortion, as It is an APSC camera. However On GFX, It is not good in my opinion. There is heavy vignetting as expected, but this can be corrected in post, as lens covers all the medium format sensor. The main problem is with distortion. I understand that it is not designed for medium format. But I did not expect such bad performance. I see this distortion on your photos as well. But It is ok and acceptable on full frame. In the center barrel type, at the edges pincushion type distortion. On GFX, it is impossible not to see this because the field of view is wider. On GFX, edge frame of the view where full frame sensor doesn't see, shows pincushion type distortion at extreme point. Considering the center has barrel type distortion again, this extreme, complex, wavy, mustache type distortion makes the viewer dizzy. I feel sick when I look through electronic viewfinder and moving the camera around at the same time. I guess 40mm 1.2 has similar type of distortion, but less (I am not sure.). Lightroom does not have lens profile for 35mm f1.2 iii. I applied profile for 40mm f1.2, and distortion was corrected to some degree, but not totally. So, GFX user should keep this in mind. thanks for the review.
You need a small sensor or a sensor with the right micro lenses. the GFX has a flat sensor for large lenses. If you put it on an A7III it also won't be as good as on Leica or X-T4.
@@FauxtakuLounge Exactly. GFX is very beautiful. Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 iii is very handsome. But they are not a good couple together, not for each other IMHO.
Hi! Can you make a video (in case u didnt yet) of these voigtlander lenses that you mentioned such as 35 1.2, 40 1.2 and so on rendering with any Fuji X system camera? Cool channel just subscribed
Sorry these lenses were borrowed. And, likely I will sell my fuji stuff once the R6 comes around. Sorry to disappoint on two fronts but I hope you’ll enjoy otherwise. Cheers.

Loved this review! Most reviews are so analytical but they hardly show any images that do the lenses justice. You really nailed it though!

I'm glad you really like it. It is a great lens. Many thanks for the comment.
I fell in love with the photos from this lens immediately after seeing them in my m240.
Really glad you liked the lens and the photos from it.

When the version II came-out, reviewers found few differences with version I: perhaps slightly improved contrast but that was it. Cheers, OX
Looks like a really good lens. Colour rendering etc. looks great on your shots.
Thanks for great review! Is there any major differences between I-II-III versions?
This is the only version I've had the pleasure of really shooting. A mate brought his version I to Tokyo some years back and I tried it with his M8, but that was it.
Do a review of the new 35mm lanther for VM.
loved your images from this lens
Many thanks.
Right on man, right on. Which lens would you favor between this one and the Zeiss 35mm Biogon F2? I've narrowed it down to these 2 for an M8 and M9 coming in.
I'm not a big fan of the Zeiss. The bokeh explodes outward and looks too bubbly, but the colour is good. This I much prefer.
Hi you've gone into great detail about the sharpness on this lens and I've watched your 40 1.2. Which one is sharper the 40? Or this 35? Thanks!
You know, I think they must be pretty similar.
Great hands on review of the 35
Glad you liked it! It is a great lens.
Nice review and pictures 👍
So will you be selling your no longer manufactured VM 35mm 1.7? Or are there different optical aspects of that lens that you enjoy?
I don’t own this lens, I merely borrowed it.
That's what I am interested in too. I own the 35 1.7. love the images but not in love with the case design, and been weighing if I should try out this or the new ultron.

I'm sorry, I can't really say anything as I haven't used the II for more than a few minutes with a friend, and only on a Leica.

CA is also much less on version iii.
How’s the fringing wide open? CA? I have the 35/1,4 and love the lens, but wide open it needs a fair bit of post-correction.
Check out Philip Reeve's review for that. He has everything you need. I saw some fringing for sure and it appears that there is coma.
Hi great review, does the camera sit flat when rested on the baseplate or does the lens tilt it forward?
It sits pretty flat.
Nice review! How does it compare to Nokton 50mm 1.5 vm?

このレンズ購入しようか悩んでます〜
コメントをありがとうございます。価格はかなり高めですが、どこを見ても、クオリティは高いです。
Colors are beautiful!
I think so too!
Is M10's RF able to couple down to 50cm?
No, only to 0,7m. You can feel it shift past that point because the helicopter is so smooth.
Like your style,...and video's,...keep ut the good work!
Many thanks. I don't got the pizzaz but I got the heart.
Beautiful Images!
Many thanks
Where d ya get that strap?
It is a Gordy’s strap. I’ve had it since 2013 or so. Great thing.
is this the f mount?
VM mount for Leica M.
excellent review marred by the irritating background music, after all it is a review not Godfather XVI
Anyone using these on a7iii or similar? I intend to use it with techart.
I am getting this for my A7Rii w/ Techart and Leica M6. Will let you know. 😉
nice lens
Great lens.
Ok. There is no h in Cosina. It’s pronounced as you read it.
Actually, Cosina are a Japanese brand and their name in Japanese is: コシナ, which transliterates to koshina.
