Things I took from this song: Simon cannot hit the high notes. Mat can. (Plus, he got the best moves) Ben is diverse. Jim is far and away the best singer. (Tho Mat can sing pretty bloody well himself)
This song makes me laugh so hard! They are all so attractive and hilarious. I love Horrible Histories. I wish I could get this program in North America. BBC is the the best! :)
I love it when they all lean forward and Commodus falls over. All the HH songs are amazing. They are kind of laughing at themselves, whilst being serious.
Honestly, Nero might actually be the nicest of them, since he eliminated capital punishment, lowered taxes and allowed slaves to bring complaints against their masters
I read he was pretty popular with the working classes, so much so that there were pretender Neros popping up for quite some time. Of course, the literal plebes were not the ones writing history, so…
i watched it four times to look at how each of them dance in the background and there are some gems. jim's is during mat's and ben's, and everyone is in on it during jim's
While Jim is singing Mat shifts from being in the middle to being on the right. It must be two different takes, but he is really getting into it on both!
To be honest most of hitlers evil actions were done through other people and their decisions. Hitler loved his wife and loved dogs and animals, he mainly had evil ideas. Nero on the other hand was an evil person, he stomped his pregnant wife to death
Caligula was not bad. He was just crazy. He planned to make his horse Consul. Yes, his HORSE Consul. If that's not insane, I don't know what is. Elagabalus fed the liver of his enemies to his lions, but so did Nebuchadnezzar. There's no difference between those two. Commodus was an obscure Emperor, but killing a person because he was a better gladiator was the same thing Didius Julianus did, so why doesn't anyone call him out? But Nero, Nero WAS an evil Emperor. If anyone looks up evil Roman Emperors, he is almost always near the top of the list if not number one.
Lol! This makes me laugh for so many reasons, & the more I watch it the more I notice other things that are just hilarious, like the background dancing whenever someone is singing a verse is just hysterical!
Elagabalus was the youngest, he was 14 when he became emperor. Mat's the youngest there so obviously he'd get the youngest role = Elagabalus. Also, Jim as Nero is the best thing ever.
Fun fact: Before Commodus, the 5 prior emperors were dubbed the “Good Five”, since they helped Rome thrive and were the nicest emperors to have existed by that point
And all but Nerva (who was appointed) were adopted by their predecessors. Then Marcus Aurelius had to go and have a surviving son/pretend gladiator. When it comes to emperors…adopt ‘em don’t breed ‘em?
He's the only emperor here I hadn't heard of before, so that was a hilarious surprise to me to! Wish they'd done more with Commodus though (killing amputees in the arena for 'entertainment', claiming to be Hercules reborn, slaying helpless wild beasts for sport and charging the public a fortune to watch him, etc.).
any HH fan should be able to recognise this line up as the 4 georges in the very first episode of the very first series and they have reunited to form the 4 baddest roman emperors. love it
Keep in mind we get a lot of the stories of Nero's craziness from Suetonius, who was pretty much a gossip archivist. He also had his own agenda when he wrote, specifically that of flattering the emperor he was writing under at the time. (Admittedly, not a whole lot of Roman writers represent Nero positively either, but it's been debated that these reports weren't always reliable. I'd at least hold out for exaggeration.)
Each one even has little quirks, just like their real counter parts. Like commodus being essentially a frat bro, or Nero having the best dramatic performance.
"Of badness I'm the daddy!" Couldn't stop laughing at that line.
Your profile pic is truly haunting
He absolutely is daddy 😋 he goes hard in this one.
I love how Matt Banyton can pretend to be a 17 year old Roman emporer, even when he's thirty with a kid of his own.

Caligula is one of my favourite Roman emperors.
The story about him making his horse consul is hilarious.
Apparently he just told someone his horse would make a better consul than him so that's not true. At least that's what I heard
I love it when they all lean forward and Commodus falls over. All the HH songs are amazing. They are kind of laughing at themselves, whilst being serious.

Most of the historical records of Rome came from the senatorial class. To say they were biased is an understatement.
I read he was pretty popular with the working classes, so much so that there were pretender Neros popping up for quite some time. Of course, the literal plebes were not the ones writing history, so…
"the woman empire" brings back good memories from life of brian, dosent it? :)
I didn’t get the reference until I rewatched horrible histories and I was like “omg-“
I recited the Commodus bit in Latin and my teacher gave me a gold star :)
I love how they often imitate famous songs, sometimes even better than the original (this one's close!)

"If you told me a fibula..." The fibula is a leg bone.
A leg bone that was probably named after the pin that was used to fasten clothing in Ancient Rome, like a giant safety pin.
Fib is colloquial language for a "lie" in English, so they're just forcing a rhyme for the song: "fib-ula"
A fibula is a kind of ornamental safety pin, first spotted in Etruscan graves, too. I think that's what he was referring to.
