    Some things that have helped to control my hair fall include: (1) I stopped wearing ponytails because it leds to tension breakage. (2) I began massaging my scalp 2 times a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while leaning forward & holding my head inverted to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Covering my head while moving out to shield my hair from pollution. (4) Using soft shampoo again from liittleextra only to cleanse my hair.

    I'm 26 and had never faced such hair loss in life.. but now im facing a extreme hair loss even though my hairs are not thinning nor is an extreme dandruff issue ... I was really worried about my hairs.. i asked a dermatologist , she suggested multivitamins because i was vitamin d deficienct and low iron levels .. adding to this i was also going through emotional stress few months ago and had anxiety and gut issues due to anxiety and all , i hope i will recover from this hair loss soon..

      It sounds like you’ve taken all the right steps. Just be patient and know it’s normal to take several months after removing the stress and improving vitamins before the hair returns

    Thank you for this video Dr. Abby! I am 28 now but my hair fall began 4 years ago during covid when I lost my job. I had never experienced hair fall prior to that but I has a crazy episode of TE and my gorgeous hair was reduced to strands. Ever since then it's been hair fall central and my hair has never been the same. I've faced massive emotional and financial stress for the past 4 years so that makes sense. It's wild to think it's manifested physically! Could you do a video with foods (vegetables, nuts, seeds, etc.) and perhaps oils or other things that I could incorporate into my lifestyle to help counter the hair fall until things return back to normal? Thank you once again for you video!

      Sorry to hear you’re going through such a tough time. Make sure you’re getting enough protein, zinc, vitamin D and taking care of yourself. Since it’s been going on so long it would be worth seeing a specialist just to make sure there’s no other underlying cause (eg thyroid problems, etc)

    May I ask if you should start taking minoxidil immediately to prevent further hair loss during an episode of this? I understand that hair grown while using minoxidal will be lost if you stop taking it, but does this include the hair grown as you naturally recover from stress-related hair loss...not sure if I worded that well :/

    • @doctor-abby
      @doctor-abby  3 месяца назад

      Yes starting it can help prevent further loss and then most people can stop in slowly over 4-6 months after stress induced hair loss has stopped

  • @jhaberly
    @jhaberly 7 месяцев назад

    You said if you start and stop minoxidil then you could have increased hair loss. Is this loss permanent or does it return as well? Thank you for this video!

      It’s typically loss of new hair not old hair so you just end up back where you started

    So it really takes up to 3 months? I am male, 21 y/o. I just had the most stressful examinations in my uni 2 weeks ago and I noticed my hair sheds a lot after that. Everytime I pull just a small portion of my hair gently, there is always at least one hair fall, and sometimes it can be 4. Showering and combing can be painful and anxiety-triggering to me. I am going insane and thought that I'm balding. I have no family history of balding on both my father's and mother's side. Thank you for sharing this Dr, really appreacite it

      1-4 hairs can be normal depending. You typically lose about 100/day. Sometimes stress can make you literary “pull your hair out” a process called trichotilomania.

    I’m trying to figure out if my hair loss is stress or genetic. I’m in my early 30s which seems to be a typical time for receding hairline but I also just spent months in the most stressful hopeless anxiety life situation I’ve ever been in.

    • @doctor-abby
      @doctor-abby  Год назад

      Sometimes the pattern can be helpful. Genetic tends to be on the top of the head and frontal hairline whereas stress usually is diffuse on the scalp. Hopefully once the stress gets better the hair will come back

      Chronic stress can be very detrimental to your body and lead to hair loss. Stress can be difficult to manage alone. Consider professional help to help you manage your stress and anxiety if possible. Make sure you’re getting adequate vitamin D, zinc and protein if you’re not eating well. Good luck

    I had since 2019 TE due to extreme stress situation, I am a youngman (28), and this year I got all my hairs back. So it took years and not months. Mostly it doesnt take months, it really takes longer, even if the stress is gone, thats sad but the reality! I know many people who had TE for years and years. Btw its also not really typical for women, cause those I know are all men. Its really sad, but fortunately after I took Iron and Vitamin D3, I got all my hairs back.

    • @doctor-abby
      @doctor-abby  2 года назад

      Glad your hair has come back, and certainly it can take a long time for the hair to return all the way to normal but 3-4 months is the time it will take to even start regrowing hair. Both women and men suffer from TE, in fact women actually report it more often but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they suffer from it more than men.

      @doctor-abby  2 года назад +1

      Hi Palak. Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds very stressful to have lost so much hair. I would definitely recommend evaluation from a physician (ideally a dermatologist if possible) since what you described could be another type of hairloss different than TE. For instance, alopecia areata can present like this. Some types of hair loss require medication or other procedures to help regrow the hair. I wish you all the best.

    Hi, I’ve had chronic TE for the last 4yrs. It started Seb dermatitis then to TE. Since then I have had vitamin d course for 6 weeks and I did notice a reduction however my gp says my vitamin d is normal now, but I was only mildly low but I did notice an improvement. Stress has been there but not as much. I’m wondering how much vit d I can take daily just to see if it makes an improvement again. Thank you

      Some hair is going to fall out regularly including the new hair. It should be around 100hairs/day that’s normal shedding. As long as you continue to get mostly new hairs then it’s a good sign

    Does stress cause eyebrow shedding?

    • @doctor-abby

      Yes it can cause shedding of both eyebrow hair and eyelashes but so can other types of hair loss including frontal fibrosing alopecia.

    hello! i’ve been shedding since april last year and my number of hair fall ranges from 20-40 strands or more depending if i wash my hair. the problem is that i don’t know my trigger. i’ve also noticed that my front hairline is receding (like my forehead is expanding). im not sure if this is frontal alopecia or te? what can i do to lessen/stop this?

    • @doctor-abby
      @doctor-abby  2 года назад +2

      I would recommend consultation with a dermatologist if you haven’t already. Up to 100 hairs a day loss is actually normal but the pattern of hairloss you describe can have many different causes including frontal fibrosing alopecia and traction alopecia (from wearing braids or other tight hairstyles often). A proper exam and history will help to determine the cause and possible treatments for your hairloss. Good luck

      Hairloss can be in many different patterns. Hairloss on the top of the head can be TE, but could also be male pattern baldness or other types. If not improving in the next 6month it may be worth having it evaluated.

      It sounds like you’re going through a very stressful time. I know it’s scary to see so many hairs falling out. While I can’t comment on your particular case, in general the hairloss will start to resolve 3-4 months after the stress is removed. Try to do everything you can to reduce stress (excercise, yoga, meditation, balanced diet, seek counseling and support). Seek advice from a doctor if the hairloss isn’t resolving in 6 months.
