Notice how most of the time she's gracious in defeat always smiling , noding the oponent and making eye contacts with them up until the 13 th loss where she completly looses it with the oponent direspectfully laughing @ her . Then continues to smile (sometimes with a fake smile) as the lost accumulate , you can see that tennis is first and foremost a passion for her . That's why she was able to handle all those lost imo. I like how significantly more agressive her game beames once she started winning and doesn't overreact .
That was not Zhang's finest moment - i remember that match as well. Her coaching team were extremely rude to the umpire, who admittedly did not handle that situation at all well. Toth's celebration was not great but it was understandable given how Zhang was dragging that whole situation out. At the time, i thought Toth's celebration was borne out of frustration at Zhang's antics but now I see why Zhang reacted quite the way she did (it was out of character for her) as she was in a very poor run of form! I'm glad she stuck at it - now she's getting her reward and she deserves it... very well done to her!!
@@philipcross8121of course Zhang’s team was rude to the chair umpire, wouldn’t you be if your player was getting screwed over? Zhang wasn’t dragging anything, she was firm with her decision that her shot was in, the Doha organizers were just to lazy to do anything about it. I’m glad she stood up for herself as no one in the crowd did, they even seemed racist, one fan making fun of her saying time violation but didn’t have the balls to stand up and say it was him who said it. The WTA needs to fine players who play like Toth, do you think anyone even cared for Toth’s apology after the match at the press conference? She only did it to try to save face from her sponsors.
@@eric6650 I don't agree with you. I'm not sure why you think that match was in Doha - it was in Hungary! They should have been telling her to calm down and focus on the match, not being emotional themselves, inflaming the situation and winding Zhang up further. Zhang ended up quitting the match after having a panic attack and she hadn't even lost the set! The umpire, as I recall, didn't go down to check the mark and that was unhelpful and really, really poor. I still think Zhang's team should not have harangued her like they did. Toth can hardly be blamed for that now, can she? And the crowd's frustration was entirely understandable - Zhang is an experienced player and should have known better plus she caused a lengthy hold-up in play with her protestations. Many forget that Toth cleared the mark after Zhang WON the next point - marks should always be cleared after a point so Toth should have cleared it after play resumed rather than after the next point. I still don't know why Toth got and still attracts criticism for this incident. She was not the one in the wrong, in my view. Many media outlets have incorrectly & inaccurately reported this story and it's led to Toth being vilified unfairly in many quarters. I did watch the match so recall it reasonably well.
The Umpire did come down to check the mark, she affirmed it was out(bad call as the mark was clearly visible on the line), not sure what she was thinking, maybe she’s new. The crowd paid only to watch the match, not ridicule the player just coz they’re not getting what they paid for. Toth also removed the mark coz she knew it was in and the more it’s there, the more it would remind her of her mistake of not playing fair. There are ways to handle situations but Toth dealt it wrongfully and was scared her sponsors would cut her off so she tried to save face at her press conference. Thoth isn’t the only player sponsors have revoked their sponsorship. The fact you only see it Toth’s way only means you’re one sided with ignorance. You say you’ve watch the match but don’t recall the umpire competing down from her chair. LMAO!
Tennis is a very lonely and mentally challenging sport. Now imagine doing that as your as your full time job as well as managing your personal life/issues. I won't mock her. Many would have gave up in her shoes . Today she finally started to win again. So props to her, she can be proud.
Good things happen to good people. Zhang is well known as one of the most kind, friendly players on tour and the other girls will always go to bat for her. So happy to see her persevere and succeed, brava!
She probably would have beaten Toth. I understand how unfair she was treated by the umpire, player, and crowd but she’s a seasoned veteran. Clearly her losing streak had gotten to her.
The fascinating thing is how Zhang has been handling these defeats with grace--hugging and talking to her winning opponents at the net. Heck she was even gracious to that stupid Toth player.
Omg’ she has been loosing really bad she needed this relief! So good girl very respectful despite the loss, and keeps her mental together! One of my fav now and i am keeping her in my prayers to the final in this one!
So happy she’s just gone and trounced Navarro right after ending her losing streak! Other players have said how friendly she is. She always seems gracious in defeat as well, even though that losing streak must have started getting to her.
I'm so happy for her being able to end this streak, she is a really likeable player and she is still doing well in doubles reaching the final at the US Open this year. Also saw this on wikipedia: With her second-round win over sixth seed Emma Navarro, Zhang became the lowest ranked player to defeat a top 10 player since the inception of the tournament in 2004.
Aww Im well chuffed for Shuai shes such a good player to watch and very capable of beating top players when her confidence is there. Glad she broke the streak as it would have been a very sad way to see her singles career end.
And now back in quarterfinal. She’s playing with great and with more confidence. I can’t wait to watch her and Bodosa. Hope she continues to play well and whether she win or loose she should be happy with her results.
That match with Toth was the one that broke the camels back for Zhang. Toth’s attitude was despicable an unprofessional. It’s no wonder Toth hasn’t won any championships, she only good at lower rankings to ensure the WTA has enough women’s players on the circuit. I hope Zhang will bounce back stronger and hopefully the next time these two meet again, it’ll be Zhang to teach Toth a thing or two about sportsmanship, but who knows, maybe Toth won’t even be able to qualify unless she cheats.
Don’t see anyone mentioning her age - she’s 35! The courage, the resilience, and the sportsmanship are so admirable. Many would have quit after this sort of losing streak at this age. She starts winning now and her game looks very solid! Really happy for her and all the best in this and many more tournaments to come!
Awaiting another episode of Shuai, nobody remembers she also holds the longest streak of loss for her first Grand Slam single win. 15 matches? Then she broke the streak when meeting Halep in AO, the No.2 seed, ultimately she ended the run in the quarterfinal.
And Zhang said after the match Krueger's coach told her to keep playing cuz her talent is still there... They probably have a good relationship off court or most people just like Auntie Zhang.

Even after 23 losses in a row, she kept on smiling when she congratuled her opponents

She's like the one player every WTA competitor will absolutely go to bat for.
She’s super upbeat and always tries to lift her partner up at doubles games too.

Wow, Toth. Brutally unsportsmanlike to wipe away the mark. Petty AF.
This will be the only thing that Amarissa Toth will be remembered for. Great to see her snap that losing streak and take out Navarro.

Dishing out defeat so casually and gracefully to one of the more loud-mouthed players on tour is just so enjoyable to see, what a delight
Navarro was bang out of order lambasting Zheng like she did after the Olympics match.
It was very poor - I too enjoy seeing Navarro lose now!
她不年轻了,她不断地坚持打巡回赛,我以为她可能是想获得参加奥运会的机会。。。
可是奥运已经过去,她还是在坚持,并且在终于赢得了胜利之后、还在挑战世界前十的选手。
