    This is the first time I've begun to understand something about camera modes ! Thank you for explaining in simple terms. Trying to understand complicated explanations from an expert is frustrating for the non-technical amateur. If I lived in Australia I would happily sign up for a one-day course ! • @photogenius

      For bird photos try Shutter Priority mode (S) on the camera dial. This will allow you to dial in a faster shutter speed and the camera will look after the aperture for you. You may also want to consider using auto ISO if you are less familiar with how it works.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  6 лет назад

      Hi Vicina, I'm not familiar with the s9900 but would suggest checking the manual to see if the camera allows or has exposure correction when using the video mode. If so you should just be able to increase the exposure compensation for a brighter video.
      Hope it works for you.

    • @lawrencekahn2766
      @lawrencekahn2766 5 лет назад

      According to the manual, there is a short movie clip mode where you can shoot and combine very short videos. It seems that there is some exposure control if you use this mode; however with the regular movie mode, there is no way to change the exposure.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  7 лет назад

      Hi Sifakubi Masuku, thanks for watching. Both of these cameras are great but they are very different cameras, the D700 is full frame where as the D3300 is an APS-C (cropped sensor camera). The D700 is nearly 9 years old so unless you particularly want a full frame camera I would probably consider the newer D3300 which is newer and ideal for a beginner. The link below is worth checking as it compares the specs for both cameras.

    Photo Genius says "absolutely no control" in auto mode. Better to say "limited control over settings" in auto mode. On my Nikon P900 there is exposure compensation... a very useful and powerful control.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  5 лет назад

      Correct, exposure compensation is very useful. I don't have a p900, so please correct me if I'm wrong - but I don't think exposure compensation works in Auto. I believe you have to be in Programme or one of the manual (creative) modes.

    • @boblite2
      @boblite2 5 лет назад

      @@photogenius On Nikon P900 exposure compensation is definitely available in Auto mode via a button containing a plus and minus sign on the back of the camera. Also available on my Lumix FZ300 via a function button on the camera top. But not available on my Canon SX70 camera.

    I really like how you explain the different things, thank you for that! I'f i am confusing about anything, i allways went back to your videos.
    I have the Nikon D7000 with the VR lens, and i am a beginner with DSLR cameras.
    The different values on the camera is a little confusing to me. I don't really know what i adjust when i scroll on the buttons.
    I saw your video with that display you are using, where it shows when you adjust the aperture, the lens open and close, but i can't find that. Why not? Do i not have the newest software, do i have to download something from the pc to the camera or something?
    Another things is that my pictures aren't that sharp that i want them to be. Can i adjust something on the camera, so my pictures get sharp. Also when i focus the pictures aren't that sharp that i want them to.
    What settings, modes do people recommend for beginners. I don't want to go in auto or no-flash mode. But to get a understanding of the iso, aperture and shutter speed in practice, what do people recommend?
    I am from Denmark so my english are not that good, write if i have to explain something a little bit better.

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  6 лет назад

      I have a free tip sheet that you can download that may help you, here's the link : photogenius.com.au/learnphotography
      On the d7000 it's really easy to change the settings. You have a 'wheel' on the front of the camera and one on the back, in the Manual mode the front wheel will change the aperture value and the rear wheel you can use to change the shutter speed.
      If you images are not sharp then it could be focusing or your shutter speed is to slow.
      Keep watching the videos and practising!
      Thanks for the support.

      There isn't much to seperate these cameras to be honest, they are all great for this price bracket. Although the EOS 700D is the oldest of the bunch I would be tempted to consider it, particularly if you want to do video as it has a articulated LCD and is touch screen. I've included this link which compares the specs of the four cameras side by side.

    So, if I want a quick shutter speed at a sports event or something, the light entering the lens will be cut down according to the F/stop number. So does that mean a good way to combat the loss of lighting is to open the aperture more?

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  6 лет назад

      Just to clarify - shutter speed and aperture (f number) are two very different ways of controlling light. If you choose a fast shutter speed for a sports event you let less light into the camera (because the shutter opens and closes so quickly) buy you would then ideally choose a larger aperture (small f number) to allow as much light down the lens as possible.
      Also don't forget ISO, if the light isn't good increase the ISO as well.
      Hope that helps 😀

      @photogenius  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Isack, try experimenting with the Aperture and Shutter priority modes (A and S on the dial) to begin with and if you're feeling more confident move onto Manual for more control. Also check your manual and read up on exposure compensation.

    If i increase my shutter speed to take a picture of a moving object, do I have to increase the aperture to let in more light to compensate for the quick shutter speed?

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  7 лет назад

      Hi Joseph, You are correct, if you increase your shutter speed you will almost certainly need to increase the aperture, BUT do make sure you are selecting a low f number which is a larger aperture (yep, I know it's confusing). If you pics look a bit dark after that you may need to bump the ISO a little as well.
      Let us know how you get on and please consider subscribing for more videos and tutorials.

      HI Elvis, here is a video where I explain how to blur backgrounds and foreground - this is generally referred to as a 'Shallow depth of field'.

    What would be the best setting for taking photos of skateboarding or surfing?

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  5 лет назад

      May I suggest a good place to start would be shutter priority (S on the camera mode dial), select a fast shutter speed to freeze the action (try 1/1000) on a bright day and increase the ISO to 400. Focusing on a moving subject is one off the trickiest things so I suggest watching this video : ruclips.net/video/QmS6IhqMQ7A/видео.html

    I'm brand new to the Nikon Coolpix P900 and have been trying to take some macro shots. I've set it on the flower setting but the camera is still blurry when too close to the subject. Are there other settings on the camera I need to use for super close-up pictures? Thank you~

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  6 лет назад +1

      The P900 is great at Macro. It could be you are too close.
      Make sure lens zoom is fully retracted and use a tripod.

    Hey Paul, thank you. One question. I go to a lot of football matches, so your tips on TV setting etc is excellent, as I approach the ground and want to take pictures of the stand etc, if I turn to landscape setting or auto, will it remember the setting s I set up for Tv mode? Canon egos 2000d. Thank you

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  4 года назад

      Yes, if you go from a Manual mode (M, Tv, Av or P) to an auto mode, the settings should be the same when you return to a manual mode.

    Sir what is the best mode for photography?

    • @photogenius
      @photogenius  7 лет назад

      +Jules Baldon Depends on what you are doing, I like to see people using the Manual mode because then you have to think about Aperture, Shutter and ISO (the exposure triangle), sure it's a bit more work but is the best way to learn how to get more from the camera. Thank you for watching. Paul @ Photo Genius. 👍😊
