If I am seeing it correctly, I believe what they have attached to his stomach is called a Wound Vac here in the states. This does exert negative pressure on the wound and sort of suctions out any fluids/debris coming from the wound. This also increases blood flow to the wound promoting healing. They really are a wonderful piece of the healing process. It can be irritating being attached to it and trying to move around, but at the same time it really lessens the healing time required for wounds. Thank you so much for updating us and I really hope that Paul gets to feeling better soon. I know it's a bummer for him not feeling well and being sort of bed bound, but this too shall pass. And I loved your "anatomically correct" drawing of Paul's internal workings, lol. Hope you can keep yourself rested through all this as well. Tell Paul, Mary from North Carolina in the US sends him many healing thoughts and good wishes for a speedy healing.
I loved your diesel pump analogy! You should show your picture of Paul to him so he can gave a laugh. Make sure you explain why his ears look like a nose. Paul seems to be doing much better now. I’m sure he’ll be on the videos in no time. Please tell him we miss him, but at the same time we are very much enjoying your updates! Have you guys in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏🥰
I had a wound vac for a good portion of last year. It is really a wonderful tool for healing of difficult wounds. There were a few of us at the Wound Clinic that had them that did really well healing. I am glad Paul had one and hoping he is healed from this infection soon!
You’re amazing Caroline! The drawing and your clarity of explanation is excellent! I still think students would do well to follow you! Big warm hugs and strength to Paul and lots of gratitude and love to you xx
Thanks for the update Caroline, think you missed your vocation as a medical illustrator! Sending you both love from the UK, hoping Paul continues to improve, it’s been a tough road. 🇬🇧🤗
Paul, don't stop believing! You are just a wonderful person. My wish for you would to not only be happy but restored in perfect health. I do thank Caroline so much for the updates. Sounds like you've got a good plan. I keep handing your health over to God to take this on for you and also asking that he carry the burdens so you don't have to. Prayers to you & Caroline.
Caroline you should get a job explaining procedures to families, trying to get any accurate details out of hospital staff is very hard, probably because they are so busy. Great update all the best from NZ
Actually it would be a great idea if every ward had a patient advocate who checked in with patients once per day to explain things properly, address patient concerns and other issues as they arise, liaise with family members, report to doctors and nurse managers (with follow up to see if action has been taken) and just generally be a supportive, assertive and caring advocate. Patients are so often kept in the dark and not listened to, and if the patient is cognitively impaired in any way whatsoever, or has no family hovering around to advocate and 'annoy' the staff, in my experience these patients are very, very, poorly treated. Sometimes in a very callous and inhumane manner.
Dear Caroline and Paul, All of us walking through this life have so much to learn from each other. Not a day passes and we must remember we are here to love and be loved.
Paul I'm Keeping You In My Daily Prayers 🙏. May You Start Feeling Better As Soon As Possible ❤. Keep Your Chin Up Good Man 🙌💙. You Are Loved By So Many ❤!!! Caroline Thank You For The Update And For Being There For Paul ❤. Western Upstate New York Here
Caroline, you are an angel sent from heaven to us and Paul, of course. Your patience is incredible. Your heart is as big as Texas. Love the drawing, you are quite the artist. Thank you for the updates with explanations. Love to you both. Praying for Paul's healing and praying for you to be covered in love. ❤
I've been wanting to comment for two days, but find words just aren't sufficient. I know that Paul will , and is , coming through this, but it hurts to see him going through something new every day. Thank goodness for you Caroline, who helps us make sense of it when you can, and helps us see that all these new things' purpose are to make him better and get out of that place ;-). Please give Paul my very best wishes and hugs, I do care. And Caroline, take care of yourself. I had a friend who was very sick and it can cause a lot of anxiety and emotional exhaustion. I know how much Paul appreciates it and would urge you to do the same, but that sentiment comes from all of us.
Thank you for the update, Caroline. Poor Paul is going through the mill again. Hopefully, with the new drain and the forthcoming procedure, he should be up and about soon. Your drawings were perfect and explained a lot visually, Sending love to you both ❤❤
Hi Caroline thanks for the update and for explaining with your drawings so easy to understand. Paul is having a challenging time of it but his resilience and your support make a fighting team. Love to Paul. Your smoothie looked delicious. xx

Glad to hear from you, Caroline, and glad that Paul is getting better, even if the going is slow. Loved your drawing-the face really looked sort of like him. I especially liked the sideways Spock ears! Sending love and prayers to you both every day. ❤
Thank you dear Caroline for your continued updates on Paul. Such a roller-coaster ride with highs and lows. My thoughts and prayers are with you both on this journey and as always, I send much love to you both ❤️
Thanks for the update Caroline ❤ sorry to hear about this uncomfortable set back for Paul but the medical services sound great 🙏 @ 9: 47 you have a lovely heart and great sense of humour :o) " cross with me for not knowing the answer to a question I didnt lnow I had been asked ...so hes keeping me on my toes 😂❤"
Thank you Caroline what an absolutely dedicated friend you are to Paul - you must be pretty exhausted too and I don’t know what Paul would do without you. If only they had done this procedure before and stitched that hole maybe Paul wouldn’t have had to go through the agony he’s been in with that abscess. I pray to God that Paul will get some relief and also that he gets to have some clear fluids, can’t imagine how awful it must be to not be able to drink when you’re thirsty. Good luck Paul, a light at the end of the tunnel at last 🤞🏻Much love and virtual hugs to you both, keeping you both in my prayers from here in England. 🧡
Thanks for the update as always. Your drawing made perfect sense. Sending prayers for both Paul and you too Caroline. Such a true friend you are. 🫂 🙏 🙏

I have had an NG tube and I did not tolerate it well. In fact I couldn't talk while it was in, I could only whisper otherwise I would gag. I was so surprised to see Paul was talking with ease having that in. I'm so happy for him that it is out, though, and hope it can stay that way. Continued prayers for healing! And thank you again for doing the updates. They are appreciated. Glad you could treat yourself with a PB smoothie. That looked delicious! 💜🙏
The acute issues in my PD et al ... household ... are nothing compared to this challenge you guys are facing. Looks really, really good and your interpretation, illustration, and so forth are super educational. Thank you and much love to you all.

Hahahahaha I love that you got in trouble for not answering a question you didn’t know had been asked on a show you didn’t know you were on. That made my day. If he’s cranky at you that’s a good sign he’s got some energy and spirit haha. Sounds like that infection is clearing. Glad to hear there’s some progress and improvement with the infection. Keeping all my digits crossed that the provisional plan goes ahead and is a success.
Thank you for the update Caroline. …love your illustration of Paul..haha…his ears are abit ‘pointy’…don’t know whether Paul will approve! 🤣..hoping for a swift recovery…sending love and kisses ❤ from UK …Debs x
