Everyone knows it isn't Pantera without the Abbott brothers, and I never would've wanted a Pantera reunion if Vinnie was alive, but choosing to sit it out. And it's understandable that he would've chosen not to participate, because asking him to do Pantera without his brother would've been selfish. I also know about the drama between the Abbotts, Rex and Phil. But I think, all things considered, a world in which half of Pantera is playing again, and performing some of the greatest metal ever recorded for live audiences once again, with the only guitarist it there who both knew Dime and can emulate his style, is a better than a world where people only find Pantera when some old metalhead plays it for them and says "this was the good old days brotherrr."

Phil and Rex are just trying to cash in on past fame as neither has had as much success since Pantera broke up because of Phil in the first place. He was banned from dimes and Vinnie funerals so how the hell does he get the okay to do this shit now? I think I most disappointed about Zak because he really was Dimes friend and the guy isnt hurting for money like the other guys I mean the guy hasn't signed an autograph or spoken to a fan since dimes death. I was a college radio DJ and volunteered for the campus paper. I was also a hang around in the alley when bands would pull up. I often helped bands with load in if they needed it. Every band was cool with me helping out their crew and took me on as a friend for the afternoon. I helped Nirvana load and unload in the early days and Kurt and Krist remembered me at further shows. I ended up with all access passes for the nevermind and the in utero tours.
one day, i was coming home from work and noticed a tour bus in front of the croatian cultural center in Vancouver. I figured i'd stop in and see what was up. It was Damageplan. Dime and Vinnie were especially hospitable. I watched their soundcheck as well. we were talking music and i mentioned bands I used to go see and check out and they thought it was cool. Dime loved the Van Halen story I told. I had a pick pouch on my house keys and opened it up and had a couple guitar picks with the band name printed on them. Dime said to me "I have a couple picks for ya" and went to a guitar case. he gave me a dozen picks. Half of them had cuts all over them. He still had Pantera picks in that case as well.
I mentioned Phil and both Dime and Vinnie said that he was their brother and they loved him but they had to keep moving on.
If I ever run into Phil I'd like to tell him that Dime and Vinnie loved him and that they said it to some new and anonymous guy they had just met.
I believe the media created more animosity and division between the band sadly. The love didn't die and it was just a time where the love and the friendship was rocky. Sadly, it ended on that note.
Anyone reading this has free reign to pass the story off to Phil if they ever run into him.

If he wanted to he could get fairly close to Dime's licks (kinda like Wolfie, if you will) but he's showing tons of respect for someone he loved dearly.
