      I think it would have been 100 times better if he would have been more Phil and just let it rip! I think was trying to be respectful and keep it Lane-ish but Phil’s gotta be Phil! Not to shabby though,har act to follow, Lane is one of the greatest of all time.....

    • @cobrastriesand7693
      @cobrastriesand7693 4 года назад +26

      @@ZO5150 yeah I clicked, because I assumed he would do it "full-Phil", and it would either be amazing or a total train wreck. Maybe if Layne were still alive he would have been willing to take a bigger risk like, but I don't know, a lot of 90s bands wrote lyrics that were just words that were supposed to sound cool together, but Pantera and AIC songs usually sound like they are about something or somebody in particular, even if you cant tell what or who. Maybe that demands the more conservative interpretation.

      Phil could sing as high as Chris Cornell when he first joined, you can hear it on a few songs on Cowboys from Hell. It's just from Vulgar Display of Power he started singing lower and wrecking his voice more over the years. Drugs didn't help much either.

    • @jefflitchfield4950
      @jefflitchfield4950 2 года назад +4

      I'll say this; Phil didn't sing his best here, but what he did was transfer the emotion very well, which in this case I feel was better than technique or prowess. You can tell he felt this song, when he sang "so I made a big mistake, try to see it over my way" you can feel that he feels that too. There couldn't have been a better aic song for Phil to do, and it was great. Cool to see duff rocking with them as well.

    Everybody saying "this just shows how good Layne was if even Phil's struggling with this song". I am not taking anything away from Layne or from the difficulty of performing this song properly, but Phil Anselmo was well beyond his prime here. He recently got off the heroin and his voice was completely destroyed after heavy shouting and careless incorrect singing over many years. If Layne sang the type of music Phil was singing, his voiced would have burnt out a long time ago and he wouldn't be able to reach those highs either. Phil Anselmo would have NAILED it perfectly if he performed this in 1988 - 1996.

    When band members get on stage with other band members to pay tribute to other band members that we have lost over the years and still continue to pay tribute is the most honorable and respectful thing they could do to honor those that are gone no matter if they can sing their songs almost as good or not good at all is besides the point of what really matters and what really matters is that not only to honor them and their memories but to keep their life and talents alive because of what they gave their fans to honer their talents and who they truly were in life and not death and when I see and hear all these different brands all these different voices singing the songs of those that have passed truly brings so much joy to my heart and makes me cry every time no matter who is performing them it's love for their friends and brothers and sisters that's what it's all about even the ones who sing the lost ones songs like shit it's still beautiful last week Gavin Rossdale and Bush did a performance in Vegas and when they left going thru Reno Gavin got on stage with Breaking Benjamin and Korn to sing in Layne's honer sang Would ?
