    I bought a 20$ Strat copy in 1970 at a pawnshop and started learning about electric guitar.. it was a great instrument! It had strings on it for 50 years and the neck is straight and solid!! It was stolen last year and I could never replace it for the feel! 1989 American standard is trying to take its place!! That old 60s copy(Apollo) was one killer guitar! Love your show and slide ! Great work

    I’ll never forget my legs shaking while driving my car home with my new les paul in the trunk. I couldn’t barely keep my foot on the gas pedal. I’m a Les Paul freak for life. I got bit 37 years ago and never looked back.

    A few months ago I took a trip to Nashville to look for a Les Paul, my *dream* guitar. I had only ever owned Epiphones up until then. I tried a few out at various shops and just wasn't feeling any of them. I started to have an existential crisis, thinking that the guitar that made me fall in love with music wasn't actually as great as I thought. Luckily I took one last trip to the Gibson Garage and picked up a 50's in heritage cherry and I immediately fell in love and knew it was the one. I had never experienced that feeling before and now four months on I still absolutely love it and can't wait to get home and play it. I totally get what you're saying. Sometimes you lust after something and it just doesnt live up to the hype you created, just gotta move on and you will eventually find "the one".

    • @dylanadamsguitar

      I totally get it man. Good Les Pauls do indeed live up to the hype, but you gotta find “The One” that really speaks to you, regardless of model/price. Stoked to hear you persevered and found it, I think I should’ve just done some more looking/trying before I jumped on this one!

    Totally get what you're saying. There's a lot of things that make an instrument what it is, some intangible. But that outro you did with it...just beautiful.

    I appreciate you being able to do your thing with almost any guitar. Tone is a real thing. Feel is a real thing.
    The more I play with a guitar, the more I learn to love it. But that said, there have been many guitars that have been sent down the river.
    There are guitars that are GREAT guitars, but just don’t keep you coming back? Sometimes I fall out of love with a style of pickup and then come back when I want something different to stimulate creativity.

    I used to play a fair amount when I was younger, before life got in the way. I had a ‘70 Tele and a ‘71 Sigma GCR7, a Martin D-28 knock off. Both fit my hand well, but I later played a ‘67 Gibson ES 135 TDC whose neck felt exactly like my Sigma’s and fit my hand very well. I got rid of the Tele in anticipation of buying the 125 only to find it gone when I got to the store. I’ve played other 125’s and none have had the same effect on me. I’ve missed a guitar I never owned for more than 40 years now. So, yeah, I can relate to what you say.

    I completely understand what your going through with this. I got back into playing electric guitar from years of bluegrass guitar in 2018. Always wanted a 50’s style strat, my first electric guitar was a 98 Squier strat made in Mexico, maple board and all.
    Fast forward to March 2019, I found a AVRI ‘56 reissue strat. Kept it till ‘22 and by that time had refretted it with jumbo wire, new pickups and wiring, but still couldn’t fully connect with it. While it was bittersweet, I sent it on its way and found a Tele that I connected with more than it.
    All that being said, I really enjoy your music and your playing, no matter what guitar you have in your hands! 👍🏻

      I hear ya, it’s always a bummer when the guitar you were sure would be “the one” doesn’t do it for you after all.

    that opening was great ! Nice playing . I have 2 strats one the tone is insane a 2000 american standard . I bought another 2012 american standard looks like jeff becks the tone sucks it is very metallic and harsh BUT the neck action and playability is insane but like you Im still getting rid of it . I have a 1979 Les Paul custom i bought brand new I love it . Your playing is great my friend refreshing hearing something melodic tasteful and not one swept arpeggio or altered scale LOL

    Humbly and respectfully, I think you’ll miss it later. I play ‘60 Les Paul Custom Shop and it’s amazing. I wonder if you changed amps it would be the magic fix? I play through old blackfaces (concert & deluxe). Gets clean or dirty all day long w just the volume knob. Also, Red looks sick on stage. Wish ya well, your playing is ferocious.

    I hear you Dylan. My first electric was a 1978 Les Paul classic that I bought in 1978. It sounded pretty good but had all these quirky issues including the finish coming off at the base of the neck. I sold it. Don’t really regret it, but in hindsight maybe I should have just had some work done. Off Topic: You got a shout out on That Pedal Show Viewer Questions and Comments on Monday for your slide playing and RUclips channel. Well deserved.

    I haven't owned a stock branded guitar in years. I prefer to 'grow my own' through various third party bodies and necks. Partscastors, Les Pauls , Ibanez RG style etc, etc, sometimes from unfinished bodies that I have a vision for a certain finish and body mods. You never know, after spending possibly months finishing every aspect, the chance that after strapping it on, that it might become a total blah moment, knowing maybe one out of three might become that invaluable attachment, the others languishing in a gig bag in a closet. But, boy howdy, when you find 'the one'. As stated below, I have a couple made from 'leftovers' and cheap components that my heirs will have to figure out what to do with. Funny how the price of building these things has absolutely nothing to do with the connection we have with playing our guitars, period, those moments when it is about the tone and the guitar sort of just disappears in your hands, does that make sense?

    I've wrestled with this on one of my HH guitars too. I've only had one set of pickups in it, but I can never get the bridge pup to sound like that fat, chewy PAF, that in my head, is what a good vintage style bridge humbucker should sound like. Not sure if it's the pup, the rest of my rig or the guitar itself, but alas, the journey continues! Looking forward to seeing what you get next and what killer music you make with it. Cheers man

      Yeah man it’s a tough call, I went back and forth for a good while with this one... I’d say if you love the guitar itself then a pickup swap is definitely worth trying, otherwise may be time to find another one. Thanks for watching!

    • @chrislestermusic
      @chrislestermusic 9 месяцев назад

      Not sure if you have tried them or not but I think the Duncan Antiquity is a great PAF style pickup. Also, and this is a big factor for that vintage PAF tone, is how it’s wired. 50’s style makes a huge difference. Good luck with whatever you do!

    • @CargoShorts7
      @CargoShorts7 9 месяцев назад

      @@chrislestermusic Interesting, I tried 50s wiring in this guitar at first, but I felt like it made the bridge pickup too thin and spikey sounding. Ended up switching the bridge back to modern wiring and that helped fatten it up some, but I still have to dial the tone back to 5-7 to take away some of the thin top end. Hoping I can get this guitar that chewy PAF sound eventually cause I do love everything else about it. Thanks for the advice guys, cheers!

    If you don’t connect, you don’t connect, it’s an intangible thing. I had a similar experience a while back when I bought a small producer’s P style bass and it was a great instrument, but never felt at home on it (funnily enough it was red too) and that went pretty quickly. Conversely, I bought an off the peg Mustang bass (my first short scale) and it’s now my go to bass, there’s just something right about it. Looking forward to seeing your new guitar soon; PRS Singlecut (I like a bit of controversy)?

    I have several guitars that I really like the way they look, the way they sound, or the way they play, but they just don’t really do it for me overall. I probably should sell some! However, I have trouble selling them because each does something a little different either in terms of pick ups, visual (that’s you Flying V), output, level, etc. so I have difficulty selling them because I always said to myself “I never know when I might want that particular sound”. You know?

    • @dylanadamsguitar
      @dylanadamsguitar  9 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks man, I am indeed programming the grooves myself in Logic Pro! For all of the videos I use the same kit preset that I modified and saved. I think it started as the “Motown Revisited” preset that comes with Logic, but I went in and messed with the settings for each individual drum in the kit until it had that tight/fat early 70s type sound.
      I can’t play real drums to save my life, but I’m obsessed with drummers/grooves/drum sounds haha

      Nothing, they call it “Custom Shop” but the majority of the guitars they put out are their high-end vintage reissues built to the specs of exact model years. ‘59 Les Paul, ‘64 ES-335, etc. Mine’s a limited edition color but otherwise is just a ‘58 Les Paul replica.
      They can make custom-order guitars but it’s mainly just a designation.

If I were you, I would hold onto it for another year.. pick it up every couple of months, play it for a couple of hours, and at the end of a year, if you feel the same way. sell it! Why would I say this? Because.. It Sounds Freakin' Great! And that's just coming over my PC speakers! It's not easy to find something that sounds that good! Like I said.. my 2 cents.

      I highly doubt that. I never sell guitars because that I've bought for my personal use (I've sold hundreds purely bought to flip). I have always feared the regret of letting a _good one_ go. I finally found *_the_*_ one_ and traded in many guitars in order to be able to afford it. As much as I honestly thought I would regret letting go of most of those guitars, I can now barely even remember what I gave up to get the single best guitar I've ever laid hands on in 33 years. Without that bond, it's simply another guitar, no matter what the price.
