  • When I was in Edisto, my friends and I found this beautiful little gem of a scene out behind the restaurant where we had brunch. There was a house surrounded by greenery across the marsh at high tide. I just had to paint it in plein air! Come along with me while I paint and explain my thought process!

This is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, I LOVE your paintings. I just got back into art & have been exploring both oil & soft pastels, really liking them both, and doing landscapes. What I like about landscapes is that they take you to another place, kinda like an escape. Your art is VERY, VERY INSPIRING, KEEP ON CREATING, ROCK ON & GOD BLESS.

I’m really into oils as well! I kind of go back and forth between the two. I think those mediums really inform each other. And thank you so much! That means a lot ☺️

It is so helpful when you explain the reasoning behind your process, and I think your painting has more interest than the reference! It's lovely! My biggest struggle with pastels is storing the finished paintings. You mentioned needing to borrow a frame from your friends, to transport it I'm assuming. (?) How do you generally store your finished pieces?

hope you don't mind me replying, The way I transport and store my pastel paintings is by having a mount (that is usually used more than once, but for storage or transportation purpose doesn't matter if dirty) and some greaseproof paper also known as baking paper , glassine is more expensive. but Never use fixative, honestly don't get pulled into that minefield... especially the "cheap hack" hairspray............. it darkens and maybe spits on your art... do 2 paintings the same and only spray 1 ,you will see...

@@johnhoffmanpaintings8512 Thanks for taking the time to reply. I don't ever use fixative, not to worry! I usually frame my art, but I'm running out of room and mats and frames are expensive. By mount, do you mean a mat? And then wrap the glassine or baking paper over the mat and art like a present?

@micheleyoung9292 just a flap in front of the window is fine . Yeh matt and mount are the same thing, I usually have a few cut that I use for this purpose..

Thank you so much! 😊 I only needed a frame because my friends and I were at a plein air event and needed to be able to display our work in frames. Typically I just put a piece of glassine paper on top of the pastel planer and sandwich both between two rigid boards. Gatorboard works really well for this!
