I have an old micron pen that dried up. I pulled the nib out of the end and I kept it to use for a “scratch tool”. Works well and feels more natural to hold than a toothpick or a darning needle.
I like 3 the best and 4 is my next favorite. I can see how number 1 could be a lot of fun to do and would look great if one can get the water right. Thanks for this...I love trees and these will be fun to paing!
Omg “Queen of Trees 🥹🌲🤍 My absolute favorite subject to paint. Thank you so much for giving my art and channel a major shoutout. I appreciate the love. Love the salt effect! I’ll have to give that a go! And they all turned out beautifully.
Thats exactly what i thought of when she said that! Ive been binging ur videos lately, especially your tree footage.. All of them! I remember u saying its ur favorite subject to paint. U mentioned wanting to take your time and enjoy the process because u love it. That resonated with me so well!!! I absolutely love your channel so to see Emma credit you is absolutely amazeballs cause i love u both!!
We love, love, love that you created a folaige brush. Great job! This was such a fun video. Thanks for sharing all these hacks, we loved watching them.
These are so awesome!!! I can't pick which one I like best. To me it is like comparing apples and oranges! I really want to try all four techniques! Thank you for sharing this!
Loved all of these trees! While you were trying to fix the first one I was saying no no no..because it's made such a great misty forest tree. It's my fav but I will be trying all of these! Also appreciated the tree brush idea. Thank you for all you do. You were the first artist I subscribed to after a friend in a beginner watercolor class I was taking showed me your channel & I've been hooked since & love what you do. Your honesty is so refreshing. 🧡
As a realism painter of both acrylic and oil landscapes for thirty plus years, I'm envious of that first technique. Looked almost like cheating. 😊 Never dabbled in watercolors, but this technique makes me wanna give them a try.
Emma, I think I like the first and second trees best but I must try all of them. The first one would be great for background trees, you are so right. And some snow on trees would sparkle them too. Fun trees!🥰
Love it. I have the same spray bottle, and it sprays larger drops in some place. You can test them on a colored paper or blue paper towel type. I use the adjustable spray bottle from dollar stores. Liked all the techniques..
OOOOOO how delightful! I've never been so Festive as this year! While creating and uploading content for my own channel I am happily distracted and diverted by so much wonderful Christmassy crafts and cooking and videos. Merry Christmas everyone 😇🎄🎀🎁
You could be a "hand" model! Beautifully expressive gestures. Thank you for the close-ups so that we can actually view the marks as you make them. Wonderful to share other instructors' techniques. Thank you for giving us a sense of belonging within the overall art community. Really love the J.Peacock tree 🌲
Great tutorial! You could use a dip pen to carve your needles which would probably be quicker than a toothpick! Love the idea of creating a brush for trees!❤
Just loved this tutorial. You are so much fun to listen to while you are painting and experimenting. I am going to try all of them. I was astonished by the first one. Best wishes to you!
"Lynda Norman" does the first technique as well, her approach is a bit bolder, I like something more in between. She does a great job explaining the water spray in her "Mastering Watercolor Vignettes: Dreamy Landscapes..." video, around 7:00:00 in, posted 2 months ago. Highly recommend checking it out. I think the mist is too fine in some spray bottles. The bottle needs to "spit" (sorry) the water at the page.
Perfect timing for me! I was just struggling a little with Evergreen trees and voila…there was your tutorial! Thank you! And I actually couldn’t pick a favorite. They all turned out so well! Now I’m going to check out Jackie Peacock. Thank you for that too! 🥰
Love the foliage brush technique and salt addition is so cool-actually love them ALL! I’m new to watercolor! Great instruction Emma, thanks so much!!! Love your tutorials! ❤👩🎨
I love painting trees. Your trees all look great! I like them all. The first one was super exciting but I think the 3rd one with the salt might have been my favorite. Thank you for sharing your techniques ❤
I loved this so much to learn. It really helped. I liked them all and could use all methods to get a variety of different looking trees in a wood. Thankyou.
cool. I have a spritz water bottle, mini size, also a half spray bottle, by T. Holtz, but I'm thinking for the first tree I'm going to try a tooth brush, at an angle, I'll try to circle back and let you know ...thanks for the inspiration. Also I saw an artist usa a fan brush it looked like the first one, and had a background like your first one looked like, so she did the green mixed with some purple, like you have done...and dabbed it into the middle. and very little water at that point, my tree had spred so when I darkened in the middle it looked awesome after it dried...!
I admired your first tree with the spray. It encouraged me because today I tried a technique that looked doable by anyone who can follow three steps! Anyone? Not me. You managed to save yours and that’s great. Mine was too far gone. Maybe next time🙂
Hullo Emma, this was a very nice video and demonstration of different techniques for painting trees! I liked the spray bottle technique the most in this video. I have been painting more fall transition foliage and brightly colored trees of different types. I love painting the Japanese Maple! I often wonder at the different types of trees that are most common in the New England area of the US? I looked it up once, but I do not remember what is there just now. I am wondering how many of these techniques will work with them? I like the saying : There is no poorly painted tree, even the most imperfect tree, is a perfect tree!
I have an old micron pen that dried up. I pulled the nib out of the end and I kept it to use for a “scratch tool”. Works well and feels more natural to hold than a toothpick or a darning needle.
That’s brilliant!

Great idea!
Some magic markers and pens can be revived by resting the tip in alcohol for a minute.
I love this. Thanks so much! I’m 73 and new to water color! This video was, very, informative and helpful.
I like 3 the best and 4 is my next favorite. I can see how number 1 could be a lot of fun to do and would look great if one can get the water right. Thanks for this...I love trees and these will be fun to paing!
Enjoyed your video. I appreciate that you are still learning and that you don’t make it look too easy. Thank you for being genuine.
Omg “Queen of Trees 🥹🌲🤍
My absolute favorite subject to paint. Thank you so much for giving my art and channel a major shoutout. I appreciate the love.
Love the salt effect! I’ll have to give that a go! And they all turned out beautifully.
🌲
I also found you a.few weeks ago!!! Love your misty trees and that you're from the Pacific Northwest!!! Love from a California Gramma ❤️
@@annenglish2935 not quite the PNW, but pretty close 🌲🤍 thank you for spending time with me on my channel.
@@annenglish2935 aww thank you! I’m not quite from the PNW, but close.
A fellow west coaster 🌲🖤

We love, love, love that you created a folaige brush. Great job! This was such a fun video. Thanks for sharing all these hacks, we loved watching them.
Loved all four of the trees. Thanks for showing us these neat "methods" for doing pine trees.
I teach art and have many watercolor books explaining different techniques. This is the first time I have seen the toothpick technique - WOW!
Like you said, with practice, all of these techniques are fun and useful.
I love them all. I will definitely try the spray, salt, and toothpicks methods.
Very well done...I do believe I like #1, however with a little bit of each technique I think trees would work well.
These are all so fun & helpful to see. They're all great for their own purpose (background, etc) but I particularly love the salt tree.
Omg I love that you shouted Jackie out. She really is an amazing artist as well. You’re so fantastic, Emma. 🖤🖤🖤
Love the way you share the process and show how some results are better. It encourages experimentation
I enjoyed the experimental , real time tutorial. Very encouraging
This was fun to watch. I haven't ever watercolored before so I learned some new things. The bottom right tree is my favorite one.
I love them all. Thanks for demonstrating all four of these techniques. I think the first technique is addicting.
That tree looks pretty natural! I see trees like that first one up here in the mountains look like this. They aren't always perfect for real.
These are so awesome!!! I can't pick which one I like best. To me it is like comparing apples and oranges! I really want to try all four techniques! Thank you for sharing this!
Awesome. Love the spray bottle technique (even before you "dabbed" on it)! You definitely made the most out of the bottom two. They are all lovely.
Loved all of these trees! While you were trying to fix the first one I was saying no no no..because it's made such a great misty forest tree. It's my fav but I will be trying all of these! Awesome tutorial Emma. I learn a lot from you.. thank you.
I really like them all... but the wet on wet with the salt that sparkled was just magical for me. I cannot wait to try it. Happy Holidays!
I’m new at watercolours and have painted many many trees with no avail. Guess I have to keep practicing. Love yours, especially the foliage one.
Really neat techniques. I think I like the spray bottle and toothpick. The salt is cool too though
Excellent! Trees!!! I’ll definitely try a few of these, thank you.
Thank you, being new to watercolour I love watching your tutorials they have helped me so much. Thank you ❤
Lieben Dank für diese tollen Anregungen!
As a realism painter of both acrylic and oil landscapes for thirty plus years, I'm envious of that first technique. Looked almost like cheating. 😊 Never dabbled in watercolors, but this technique makes me wanna give them a try.
Love them all! Can’t wait to practice! Thanks for sharing.
Love all the techniques, but the first and last trees are my favourites
Wonderful video Emma and I liked all the trees.
This was fun! Love the different techniques.
Love them all. The first one and the toothpick are my favorites
Hi Emma! I like the foliage brush best, and it also works quite well to "mis-cut" a fan brush, which we seldom use. Gorgeous!
Emma, I think I like the first and second trees best but I must try all of them. The first one would be great for background trees, you are so right. And some snow on trees would sparkle them too. Fun trees!🥰
Thank you. I always have trouble painting Christmas trees. I love the first technique which looks like you have mist around the tree. 😊
They all look great. Makes me want to try. Thank you for sharing!!
Wow! Thank you so much. Love the foliage brush, I will make one. awesome tip! As well as the toothpick technique. Sure glad I found you
Wow - that moderately large brush has an amazing point!!!
Love it. I have the same spray bottle, and it sprays larger drops in some place. You can test them on a colored paper or blue paper towel type. I use the adjustable spray bottle from dollar stores. Liked all the techniques..
Thanks for sharing Emma, love the softness of these trees!!
OOOOOO how delightful! I've never been so Festive as this year! While creating and uploading content for my own channel I am happily distracted and diverted by so much wonderful Christmassy crafts and cooking and videos. Merry Christmas everyone 😇🎄🎀🎁
I love the toothpick! But I love all of them, thank you Emma
