I will have to try this. I am one of a few people that do not like pastelmat, especially for my color pencil work. I like sanded papers so much more because I really don't like doing a zillion layers. I see depth on sanded grain fairly quickly, especially if I have nailed my values and edges correctly. I don't like wasting pigment just to fill in tooth on the pastelmat and that is a big part of the work -it's like a continual battle to tell yourself "just trust the process" and it doesn't bring me a lot of joy. I however am not a hyper realistic artist. I aim for something between realistic and impression. I personally LOVE vellum and lux archival so I have a feeling I would like this one, I will order some. I have been saving for the release of Canson Velvet and put my pastel work on hold for now to wait for it but I will try this in the meantime and try both pastel and color pencil on it.
Awesome! I am waiting to try out the canson velvet too! I totally know what you mean about not enjoying the slow process of a million layers with colored pencil! That’s why I switched to pastel pencil and then ultimately soft pastel. It’s such a fun and immediate medium!
This was helpful, thanks. I haven’t tried pastelmat yet. I use art spectrum sanded papers but I have used a smoother version they discontinued which I loved. I don’t like to use heaps of layers if I don’t have to but also like the option if I’m problem solving.
Would love to see a comparison of Canson velvet vs the pastel grain paper. Could be intersting to compare both with Uart 400 or similar sanded paper with the different pastel mediums like you did here.
Are you psychic?! I’m working on cans on velvet vs pastel grain right now. It will be posted on Thursday! I want to try the black UArt! I’ve tried uart a few times before, but only the lighter colors (I tend to gravitate toward darker paper) so you’re right! I should definitely give that a try. 😊
Wrong, I don't have pastelmat 😆, I don't use pastels, but definitely pastelgrain would be my preference if I ever decide to give it a try. I loved the video and subscribed, it was really fun 😁.
I’m sure the oils get transferred at some level. I didn’t notice anything visible though. Usually I try and touch the paper as little as possible in order to preserve the paper for archival purposes but I wanted to feel the paper so I could better explain the texture for the video. I hope this helps 😊
LOVE this demo...going for the Grain Adventure❤
Cackling at that intro. 😂😂 He was havin a bad day lol.
8:39 I want to sleep wow 🤩 😅
They both are nice
Agreed!

New sub! ❤❤❤
Yay!!! I appreciate it 😊
Where can this be purchased? Can't seem to find it anywhere.
I got mine at Dakota Pastels!
Interesting. I use oil pastels a lot and I like more textured paper so this might be something for me.
Thanks for the review it’s helpful. It depends on your style if you’ll like it.

Awe that makes me so happy!! I had fun making it 🤪
Did your oils from your hand get onto the paper easily when you touched them in the center?

Shortcoming’s galore
@@katemcguiness8254 What are you referring to?
@@KaitlinGiada yes, it helps very much. Happy Holidays
These pastelgrain sheets are $15 each! Too pricey for me right now!
