- I've owned this car for a year, finishing the kind-of-restoration the previous owner almost completed before he passed away. While there's still some nit picking to do, I'm happy to drive and show it as it is. This car's website is: www.1967-imperial-mobile-director.com
Every time I see one of the Imperial Crown coupes with the mobile director option the first thought that comes to mind is why the coupe and not the sedan? if it had been an option on the 4 door sedans I think it would have been a huge hit.
Because the door was longer, and easier to get in and out. The seat wouldn’t clear the b-pillar if it was a 4 door when rotating it.
Thanks for keeping this classic as close to original as possible. What type of fuel do you use in it? When this car was new, it took the old 100 plus octane Premium, or Hi-Test as it was sometimes called. Just curious.
That is so damned cool. 👍
I'm puzzled as to why you thought we wouldn't want to see more of the interior, like dash board. Or see it start up. Or hear the exhaust note at more than idle. Or hear about more of its features - thought the swivel seats are cool AF.
Classic healthy 440 V8 exhaust rumble.Very nice car.My grandfather had a 67 LeBaron.He always bought Imperials.
I loved the tick to the engine in the drive by.
A beauty !!! love those cars with the big blocks , this one in blue , very nice.........a crown jewel !
I own a 67 Crown Coupe, only like 3235 of these Coupes were made in 1967, not sure how many are left
I had a 67 Crown Coupe too, but it was not a Mobile Director car. I just love these big yachts!!
Wow 19' long. Ok, I'll quit griping about how garages are too short and trucks are too long. That would barely fit in my garage which is 20' long. Very cool car.
A laptop in a 67 Imp is just plain wrong! LOL!
Oh my gosh, I was about to ask "how many bodies does that trunk hold? " when you said something about fitting 6 people in the trunk...
Absolutely gorgeous auto, it's a shame assholes like to derby them.
They were banned at our county fair demo derby.
Couldn't think of a better use for a ridiculous plodding P.O.S. Ever try to take a corner or stop for an Air Port Hooker? I mean a customer service rep.
merc1110 you actually had to edit one paragraph??!!! Haha!!! I can see why you can't take a corner in one, you can't even write a paragraph correctly without editing.
@@orange70383 They are banned in many places because they were too strong.
They are banned in many of these derbies because they are too strong. At least some have been save because of that.
My parents had a `67 Sedan when I was growing up. That was the base model Imperial. It was brown with cloth interior and AM radio, but still an awesome car. They sold it in `76, four years before I started driving.
Nice car. Beautiful. Good job restoring it. This has always been and still is my dream car. I still want one, but these are very rare. How is the reliability? Can you daily drive it?
0:20 Quite a tick to the engine in the drive by.
Now that’s a substantial car. And nothing I like better than a two door hardtop.
Very, very nice automobile. You must be so happy to have it and be able to drive it. I’ll bet it would be magnificently luxurious on a cross country trip, like taking your LazyBoy down the highway.
I fell in love with 67 1st time I saw one. A wealthy older lady in the neighborhood drove it home new - black over silver. What a car! When I turned 16 I went over to see if I could buy it. She told me I could - after she died. Oh well.
Watch the movie Point Blank and see what Lee Marvin does to a 67 crown conv.
I love Imperials.
Of the 87 of these that were built, I can't help that think that more than a few must have perished in demolition derbies.
No...these cars didn't perish in demo derby's big Kenneth! Who goes by Kenneth??? Isn't it usually Ken, Kenny or K-man? Obviously you were too busy yucking it up at the country club on Friday & Saturday nights. These mofo's...errr i mean Mopar's were never used at demo derby's because they were unbeatable. They were like the TIMEX your wife gave you for your birthday. These behomouth's took a licking and kept on ticking. These sh_t mobiles were unstoppable for the all important demo derby's (or driver's ed live training if you were from my neighborhood). These Imperial's were banned, period. Get it K-man??? (Naaaahhh you probably don't get it more than a few times a year, hence the TIMEX) You would never see IMPERIALS run in a demo derby. Now it's rare to see them run period. The MoPar Engineer's were thinking in terms of planned obsolescence so we could all drive K-Kars. Mopars greatest auto ever... at least that's what I-O-Coconut said (hope you didn't drink that Kool-Aid). K-man IMPERIALS handled like a bathtub full of water. The brakes were cr_p, they drank gas, the old leather in them smelled like something from a TV crime drama, if you could smell that. Or if you prefer your sister's sock drawer, or duffel bag after two weeks at camp. "Southard"... is that your real name? Are you practicing false advertising??? If you live up to the moniker, I bet that got you a few dates in high school! At least I'd hope so, TIMEX and all! Rock on big K!
Dude what is with the personal attacks? Imperials were banned from most demo derbies in the late 80s due to the fact that they were pretty much winning all of the derbys in the 70s up to the mid 80s. I went to several of these derbys back then vs. hanging out at the country club and they were full of Imperials. Matter of fact, it sounded like Thunder going off at the end of the main event as all you had left were Imperials destroying each other,. You should have been there, but then maybe your K Car broke down and you couldn't make it. However, I also think that due to these cars running in the derbys for around 10 or 15 years that a significant number of them are no longer around.
Great video David and awesome car. I always loved these. You likely know this, but the design started in a show car and included such things as a fax machine and special telephone! Yours DID come with a little gooseneck light, do you still have that item? I would love to see that. Kudos to your friend showing us very clearly how things worked.
Thanks, Toy King. I saw the 1966 show car in a magazine when I was in high school. It made a big impression on me. The goose-neck lamp and table were both missing from the car when I bought it; lost long ago by the first owner. I had a new table and support fabricated based on photos and drawings from other owners. The best I've been able to do about the lamp is to find a period correct Tensor lamp, to which I added a lighter plug. The whole story is at the C Bodies Only website: www.forcbodiesonly.com/mopar-forum/
...yeah one big oil dripping metallic turd!
merc1110 you wish you had one
There is a high intensity light that goes with the fold top desk. It plugs in and clips onto the desk. Do you have that detail?
Nice car. Awful video.
Matt you seem like a nice guy. Truly it's "Awful car and Nice video."
I am a nice guy, thanks. The car is cool. The video's choppy editing, shaky camera work, and extraneous background noise makes it awful.
Nice car I have a 67 crown coupe too it’s all in black.
GORGEOUS car! I've never actually seen one of the swivel seats in action, so that was damn cool to see it!
No Hank a swiveling seat isn't cool unless you have a hooker in your lap face down. Now that's cool! Scratch that, that's awesome!!! See ya at AV Club if you don't have detention again Hank.
uuuhhh ok... whatever you say...
Hi David.. does the Tensor lamp still work attached to the work table? .. if only Elwood Engel could’ve envisioned laptop computers when he designed these lovely cars! He was a great designer!
The original lamp went missing. I adapted a period-correct Tensor lamp to replace it.
Elwood Engle? Are you sure you don't mean the Boston Dangler? And you are complimenting Elwood on designing a lamp. Doesn't the car count for anything? What about the car?! I see you are just impressed with the table lamp. Awesome review. Did you spent your honeymoon at Home Depot?
Warning to women and children: Apparently one “Hank Austin,” a fellow RUclips commentator, lets loose with some vulgarity “two weeks ago.” The lamentable remarks are entirely unnecessary and unfortunate.
Ancil hoffman?
Cool car and all but I wanna know who that super-cute chick is?
I think is a boy, dude.
That’s a Keeper! 😉
Needs dual exhaust..... our crown coupe runs cooler with dual exhaust by 21 degrees with Evans coolant .... Delo 30 in engine
I hope the car did not go up in smoke in the recent wild fires.
No loss, Hagerty will cut you a check.
Cool chair swivels
...and underneath there is a toilet and a hole in the floor for ice fishing. Oh wait it's not a hole in the floor it's rust.
Imperial's was great! Imperial Diterector - how good idea for business!
Beautiful car! And the chrome is in great shape. How many miles on it?
149,000 miles, based on its annual registration records.
Duffy the chrome has less miles on it than the car. I am going to go polish my "chrome helmet" and you can't watch. Say, did we go to camp together? I remember a Duffy, PM me if you were the kid trying to earn every badge possible. You missed one!
жир, давай сюда)
What a beauty. I always thought the tail lights of the 1974-1976 Cadillac were inspired by the 1967 Imperial (which, in turn, could be argued to have been inspired by the 1965 Cadillac). Thanks for posting!
Nothing was inspired from Imperial. Cadillac was inspired by CADILLAC. What an absolutely uninformed and crazy post!
Awesome Imperial........... Editing skills? Not so much.
Entitled idiot much
Smooth editing...
Where’s that same kind of innovation in Chrysler today?
They brought back the swivel seats and table in the min van.
Stow n Go. Swivel n Go. Chill Zone glove box. Lighted cup holders. Racetrack taillights. The ring of light around the Darts dash. Floating console in the 200. Cab forward. RWD Hemi back after 30 years. AWD RWD family car OR Muscle car. Muscle car for a family. Wrangler roof options. Liberty Sunslider roof. Removeable flashlights. Swingdown tailgate speakers. Hemi Hybrids. Etorque alternators. Pacifica & Magnum. PT Cruiser. Blue wood trim on S models. Foot slide side doors. Under seat secret storage. Lots of innovation....
long gone dude, long gone.
What are you showing us? There were no laptops in 1967.
Is that lifter noise or does the old car have arthritis??? Nope it's lifter/ push-rod chatter. Better keep a Cadillac handy, in-case the MoPar pukes out...errr I mean breaks down. They say there's a sucker for every seat, what do you think and what are you directing in that car anyway?
the fucking asshole is at is again! get a fucking LIFE!
