Any chance you'll do a vid discussing the use of carbon fiber in the Japan Airlines Airbus fuselage that allowed all 379 passengers & crew to escape the burning plane?? Seems like it would be a great contrast with the Titan sub CF construction.
boy am I glad I took the time to watch this video.
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
I helped my ex boyfriend remodel his old house, including gutting the old bathroom and taking out walls to enlarge the room. I enjoyed the whole process. It was really fun and especially fulfilling to see the beautiful end result.
The owner's not going to like my opinion, but, IMO, the color is already passé.
Absolutely beautiful!!! Your friends must have alot of peace of mind knowing you guys did everything correct and you can tell!
Love the cat doing an inspection at 26:40
That's a tough cat
If during the inspection, the cat had failed any of the remodeling work, well that would have been catastrophic.
That is a beautiful end result; way beyond "pro level".
Absolutely beautiful job, Jeff and team!!! I really liked the care you put into the job. Where a lot of contractors are just doing a job, you guys are creating a space with passion and it shows. I know who I want to call when I have a project I know I can't tackle. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share this beautiful kitchen with us!!!
You must be a cat person to allow the kitty to work with you. As a cat person myself, I know how finicky and demanding they can be. It was just really cool that you allowed Kitty to inspect your work - most would want everybody and everything out of the way.
I can't wait for more of your amazing videos. Cheers!!!
Yes they own 3 cats!
I think you are a genius, sir. Beautiful to watch.
Excellent detailed narration with no unnecessary commentary.
Glad you liked it!
What an incredible finished product. Great work. I just kept asking myself however, why does a family need so much storage space in a kitchen? I scratch-cook most meals and make my own breads and do so in a small kitchen.
I was attracted to your channel because of the "Key" bridge coverage. Great job on Key and cabinet installation. I am now a subscriber and look forward to future content.
Bravo, superb remodel !
The only thing I would have done differently is hire a subcontractor to install a through-the-roof exhaust vent above the cooktop. I did that in my previous house, which was built in the mid-1970s. They had to chop out part of the wall behind the cooktop (which was in a bedroom closet), install a plenum and ductwork, cut a hole through the roof, get power to the built-in exhaust fan, etc., then clean up the mess. Done in two days. Worth every penny. Because my wife's cooking always generates a lot of smoke!
For your friends' house, the exhaust vent would have been placed where the microwave currently is. And the microwave would have had to been repositioned. I would have suggested repositioning the microwave to the left of its current position, to above where the toaster oven.
Absolutely beautiful work. I LOVE that you put cabinets all the way up, I cringe at the wasted space that is common in most kitchens. Nice work paying attention to the details that really make a difference. I especially love your inspection team, meow. 😸
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you appreciate the attention to detail in my work.
You speak my language plumb square and level that’s how I build as a site boilermaker rigger. 🙏🇦🇺👨🏭
Impressive. You are a master!!
Beautifully done, Jeff and crew!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Had to stop by and say MUCH LOVE from Baltimore!
One more click, like and comment - hope your channel does well!
Wow I'm impressed 👏
Nice cabinet job. I've done many like it. I'm sure after the prospective cost, you discussed updating the floor tile, but decided to keep the old style.
Well done!
Wow that is nice work! Seriously impressed!
Thank you very much!
Void spaces behind fridge would make a great valuables hiding area.
Good call!
Looks great!
That's an insane amount of work, great job Jeff! Looks amazing
Thank you so much for your kind words! It definitely was a lot of work, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Yeah!! I miss your home improvement type vids! just yesterday my brother was in my kitchen and asking when we were going to remodel our cabinets like I envisioned. Thanks Jeff!
Time to get busy!
Real nice work on the demo phase.
I try to do the demo like a surgeon, not a soldier
Super nice job. That bump in the floor got you. I learned one thing. Assume that nothing is ever flat, square, or level. I always check the floor. If the floor is really wavy then> The un-adjustable dishwasher height sets the counter height. The tall pantries and ( if un-scribable) finish gables set the upper cabinet height. Then I go to the corners.
Yes we knew it was higher when we started but initially we didn't do anything about it because we figured the pantry breaks up the flow of the cabinets and starts it’s on course down the west wall and you wouldn't notice it from one side of the room to the other. But it was once we started to add the crown molding which the owners originally did not plan on doing, it became problematic but luckily it didn't take us long for three of us to wheel it outside make the two cuts and bring it back inside now at the correct height
At around 14:35, Jeff said, “I thought there was a total of 60 doors and drawers in this project.” Really. That’s a tremendous amount of storage space. Jeff showed how cluttered the “before” kitchen seem to look. What exactly do the homeowners have and how much? Still, with all that new extra space, I’ll lay odds that they’ll fill every nook and cranny in no time!😱😝🤣
Now here’s the $64,000 Question? How are they going to keep track of all that stuff? (Gee, what’s behind Door #24? Where the heck is my kumquat slicer?) I don’t suppose the homeowners are professional foodies, are they? Are they “the caterers for the privileged”?
But whichever, this was a most interesting and entertaining kitchen installation video. An outstanding job with outstanding attention to details, especially to the most minute kinds. Keep up the good work.
I cannot wait when I inherit my great-uncle’s small mansion so I can hire you to remodel the kitchen. 😄😄😄👍👍👍
I like those inspectors. They cat-tch every misfit cabinet and prrevent cat-tastrophe before it happens. The contractor is felining good about his puuurrfect job. I concatulate these guys.
Haha, "cat-tch" and "cat-tastrophe" - love the wordplay! Our inspectors take their job very seriously, and they're always on the prowl to prevent any "cat-astrophes" before they happen.
@@jeffostroff He's right--you gotta watch out fur any mistakes, or they'll try to claw back your fee. My paw ran into that at the tail-end of his career.
Looks great really nice job you did
Thank you! Cheers Jeremy!
Nice job....looking for that tile vid. Gracias Amigo
I wish you would have given a cost breakdown including what you sold the old ones for. Then I would know if I had a chance of doing this for my kitchen. Still a great video, thanks.
Great video. What a project. Nice job.
Glad you enjoyed it
I just did my kitchen use very similar cabinets and almost the same sink. The sink is awesome . Im so happy with it .
That is awesome!
Great job
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Nice 👍🏼
Very nice!
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it!
Nice teaching skills 🎉
Thank you i'm glad you liked it
jeff, big fan here, I watch all your videos but have never made a comment before. Can you come to Maine ? I would love a new kitchen done by you !
Oh that's a long trek!
Excellent.
Thank you! Cheers!
I need a kitchen makeover for sure.
Me too!!
Gotta watch out for the F.B.I. (Feline Bureau of Investigation)!
I have a 1950s kitchen that's seen better days. Modern fridges won't fit in the corner space (wall on the left, base cabinet on the right, cabinet overhead), but I found a smaller French door unit that would fit, IF... Manufacturer had the size spec's on their website, which showed exactly how far the doors would open. I measured and sketched my tight kitchen space, made a paper "model" of the unit, and confirmed that it would fit, AND the doors would open all the way, IF it were simply placed diagonally into the corner! No remodeling needed, no hacking off the bottom of the overhead cabinet like my friends had to do when they got a bigger version of my fridge. But they didn't have a wall on one side, because the kitchen door was there. Somehow remodeling the kitchen is very low on my priority list.
It's a lot of work, but rewarding when you see it finished
Also, in addition to using Excel for a precise layout (see my other comment), I hung the uppers individually using homemade french cleats. I leveled the wall cleat using a laser level, then placed each upper cabinet on that leveled cleat. I glued and screwed the mating cleats on the backs of each cabinet. This way worked best for me because I'm a crippled old woman working largely alone.
All I had to do then was plumb the uppers.
Using french cleats meant that the 'ledgers' simply remained in place.
Oh boy it has taken me some time to do. I wish I had a crew like you have, but I did have a handyman on occassion.
Anyway, I'm proud to say that I have all hairlines and no lippages.
Yes I also used to use the Ledger boards like you saw me attach below the corner cabinet and with laser level them and everything but stopped doing that because I found out that once everything was all leveled and you put the cabinet on there sometimes you still have to make micro adjustments to the cabinet so I now prefer to just put the Ledger boards on the wall right around the point where you will hang the cabinets but allow an eighth of an inch or so below it so that I can just stick the shims in there and adjust the height up and down of the cabinet as needed.
@@jeffostroff Yes. I did have to make micro adjustments. Fortunately, I didn't lose my mind and stayed at it.
Spice rack: Put the sliding in top, hanging the shelvs below, dropping it all down 2-3 inch.
Yes, the owner realized that after putting it together, they should have done the spice rack like drawers, instead of having the weight of the spice rack glide on top of the bottom gliders. It makes the spice rack sway too much, even had to put in some guides inside the cubby to keep it from sawing.
I put my refrigerator in the corner like that and found that I could not open the doors all the way before it hit the cabinets. So I had to check the geometry of the doors associated with the type of fridge before purchasing. I wanted the fridge to be flush set in but had to bring it out a little. It looks nice but I would probably rethink all the angles if doing it again. Unlike me, I'm sure you thought everything through before hand.
Formica is light, MDF underlayment or particle board is heavy. Keeping up with the Joneses granite/marble/quarzite are heavier.
OMG, Jeff. I wish you’d come do my house!
Really interesting project, thanks Jeff. Where do you get the energy to do all the things you do? I'm lucky if I do 1/10th of what you accomplish!
Believe me, it is very difficult. I've already started to slow down and refuse many jobs
Lol... inspectors!!
Nice job.
Haha, glad you found it amusing! Inspectors can be quite the characters, right?
So much better instead of the shopping trips at cosco or Home Depot
I'm glad you found this video helpful as an alternative to the usual shopping trips!
20:51 I've seen StudPack use 2P10 Instant Wood Adhesive for kitchen cabinet crown molding. Not as strong as wood glue, but since the molding isn't something that will be fiddled with, they felt comfortable using it and said it made the job much faster.
Any adhesive is fine to use there. IT will never see a load
Take a drink every time he says spice drawer😂
Or pullout
I like pulling out
I've made pull out cabinets. They are great in the right place. A floor to ceiling pull out takes a lot of work. But it's pretty cool.
I must have missed somewhere the cabinet company you used! And did they provide the visual software to lay the cabinets out? Thank you. Tom
Power Point? I brag about my Excel layout. Set the row height at 9 and the columns width at 1, and you'll have a perfect grid. I scaled mine to one cell = 1/4", because I was working within very tight dimensions but I wanted a lot, which meant cramming.
I inserted circle shapes to evaluate cabinet door swings, drawer extensions, etc. I used borders to define walls, cabinets, and appliances. It allowed me to hyperlink the text boxes (to the cabinets and appliances online).
I even added a yellow "tape measure" left to right and up and down on frozen upper rows snd frozen left side columns using borders and color fill.
I further added a thin pink one foot square grid across my layout.
I'm not a very organized person, so I needed to have all of everything in one spot, not on scratch paper everywhere (as I'm prone to do).
Yes, it was work to create a plan in Excel, but when I finally installed my cabinets it was worth it (first-time cabinet installer/DIY'er).
You may not love Excel like I do, but I tried Power Point (months before seeing your video) and Excel did it for me.
Yes once you have one done you can use it for future designs too
Great job! Can you share where you purchased your cabinets from? And, did you buy the assembled or ready to assemble (RTA)?
J&K cabinetry I always have them assemble the boxes prior to delivery, $20 per box.
Enjoyed the video. Question: Under present code should the A/C outlet have the ground on top?
Code does not require it, and you can do it either way. Hospitals have the ground on top.
Okay, now you really have my attention. I want to remodel my kitchen but how do I find qualified professionals in my area.
Try Next Door app, ask people for recommendations
I would do job like that once a month in new home here in Iowa I was a Pro Trimmer for 35 years A kitchen like that would take me about 5 day by myself go in on Sunday pack all cabinets in unbox them in and then Monday Move in doing the bigger job DeWalt make Drill bit for tie cabinets to each other make the screw lose in the one frame and smaller hole on the other frame I have installed over 1000's kitchen over the years and sometime back to the same house 15 years later putting in new cabinets
Yah sure.
It looks awesome. What was the total cost ?
cabinets were $12k, I think the granite was about $6k, crown molding install was $800 and probably hundreds more in parts, cabinet pulls, and other materials we had to buy
Jeff - could you explain how the refrigerator is ventilated. With the refrigerator enclosed on all sides, it seems like the refrigerator would not be able to ventilate the heat?? 🤔
Yes if you look at the beginning of the video when I show the diagram of how the refrigerator is mounted at an angle in the corner that whole space is open and it's open all the way up to the top of the cabinets as well. Also you do have about 1/4 of an inch on either side of the refrigerator for air to get in and out of there. The ventilation is really most important at the back of the refrigerator.
@@jeffostroff Thank you Jeff for taking the time to reply to my question.😎
Really great.
I understand why some are critical of the time invested in the work. As a contractor wanna be, I have found that there is a continuum: professional to perfectionist. I tend toward the perfectionist end, which is not usually financially conducive. Unfortunately, perfectionism isn't usually optional; it's a compulsion. So, I appreciate the work you've done and the sacrifice required. It's worth it, IMHO.
If you have a moment, I'm just curious. On the crown fasteners, Brad or pin? Aren't pins too weak? I seem to recall Norm or Tommy suggesting pins being good for glue set up. May have been Hometime. It's been a few years.
Then there's that $27k counter measuring system. I'll be using the wasteful but cheaper templates until I get grown up!
Thanks, again.
That is a Porter Cable 23 ga pin nailer, this way the hole is not very noticeable
@jeffostroff So, the glue is doing most of the work, I guess. The reason I asked is that I'm debating pinning vs Brading base board caps and some custom 361 casings. The old way is to tap crossing nails into the outer edge to close any potential miter gap. It's kind of gross negligence against nice wood - or composite. I'm working on a way to secure connections that are also removable with minimal damage. In a rental unit, I want to be able to change out various trims efficiently. Successive and excessive coats of paint compromise presentation and marketability.
Thanks, again, for your time.
Personally, I prefer the before kitchen. Nice and bright. The new one feels a little claustrophobic. Good job though.
Really kind of agree, but when you visualize a plan, and go for it, you gotta finish it. White cabinets might have solved this feeling. The kitchen seems very small.
VERY NICE !!!!! HOW MANY MAN HOURS FROM REMOVING AND INSTALLATION .
My spreadsheet says 155 hours, but I don't know if I may have missed any days or not. The main part of the remodeling from tear down all the way up until the time the quartz counters were installed was 30 days. Then after that there was a lot of spotty days in between where we were waiting to put in the backsplash and that took a few days and then some other adjustments that we made to doors and caulking and stuff like that
Great work!
What’s the name of the cabinet manufacturer looks familiar
J&K Cabinetry
I'd like some detail on how you extended the cabinet for your fridge enclosure. I'm challenged by the same thing, except for an existing pantry closet. All the pantries offered by the manufacturer are not deep enough.
Yes and I am upset that even the cabinet maker didn't have a full depth cabinet for over the fridge which is why you see there we had to buy 2 cabinets and remove the back off of 1 and join them together to make it full depth so that we could utilize all of that space above it.
@jeffostroff Ahh. OK. I'm going cheap out and extend by birch plywood maybe. Ha! Like my carpentry skills are all that 😂
How much was it to redo that kitchen?
The cabinets alone were $12000. I have to check on what the counter cost
If you can check to see how much he you charged. That would be great. I'm about to do a complete remodel on my kitchen. But I don't have anything to judge on cost.
I feel like the push for speed has led to a lot of corner cutting and poor quality work nowadays. I follow a bunch of home inspectors, and new construction from a lot of these big builders is always shoddy. I like to see people put an emphasis on the quality of the build, even if it takes longer.
Yes and I get criticized for taking extra time, just look at some of the rude comments here from others.
Jeff what type woid was used on cabinets,?? Im hoping there all made out of real wood not pressed board, chip board junk.
Are you going to install a ladder to reach those top cabinets?
Yes, I showed the cubby that stores the 2 1/2" thick telescopic ladder
Hide all the good $ things up high robbers wont bother
I hope my wife doesn’t happen upon your video here. If she does my wallet is totally screwed!
You gonna be broke
These cabints were way less than Home depot wood special order cabinets
I think this is an awesome look, but caddy cornering the frig is a lot of wasted space.
i hate.. HATE that stupid wasted space on top of a regular kitchen cabinet set up, all of my homes have had them and ive hated them all, recently i used that huge waste of space as a base for an indirect upwards pointing LED array, which is really cool, other than that ... worthless.. smFh
Yes and I am upset that even the cabinet maker didn't have a full depth cabinet for over the fridge which is why you see there we had to buy 2 cabinets and remove the back off of 1 and join them together to make it full depth so that we could utilize all of that space above it.
If you invest a little time rescuing a stray kitten abandoned in this harsh world, you'll see immediately that they just LOVE the warm private space above kitchen cabinets.
Since pre-historical times, kitchen cabinets have been designed specifically for active, athletic kittens and cats to make their favourite haunts for resting and spying on rats and mice.
Not granite it’s quartz
Correct! I usually call all stone stuff granite
Jeff I love your disaster coverage but this is an absolute insane kitchen design brother lmao. Anyone saying don’t let my wife see this is also absolutely insane. Cabinets are exponentially the most expensive item in any nice kitchen and Jeff here just tripled his cabinet budget. OR the more likely scenario since he didn’t himself is he slashed his cabinet budget in 1/3 by tripling the surface area and you can kinda tell in the build quality this is pressed mdf cabinetry and not solid hard wood I’d be ripping this out immediately sorry Jeff
This is all solid beach wood in these new cabinets. The older cabinets that we removed were particle board, the cheapest form of cabinets, that all builder give you with your new house.
New one looks awful, bet that’ll be ripped out in 10 years time too!
1:30 So much space wasted by having fridge place like that.
He says no space wasted because his cut out.
But who the hell is going to slide their fridge out to get a box of cereal?
No one.
I hope this man does not install cabinets for a living. Most of his advice is nonsense (e.g. 4:46).... Do uppers after wards FORSURE. So you have much more control on spacing between uppers and lowers and can use a small 3 hand to lift the uppers into place. WAY EASIER. Never damage lowers doing this especially because I use a scrap board as a platform on lowers to life uppers into place with 3rd hand.
12:15 lol tiling to make flat surface is not required. With legged lowers they adjust east. With this cheaper version of lowers in video you can just have strips of material of the correct thickness under box gable edges.
14:17 it is true you do the right steps when it comes to leveling and flushing everything up BUT you take way too long doing it....
I cannot bare watching the rest of the video...
Your statements show complete ignorance. They don't slide out the fridge for cereal, they slide it out for things like holiday storage, or tall items that you rarely need to get at. You should NEVER be installing cabinets. Any expert will tell you to install upper cabinets first. Like I mentioned in the video, clowns like you will criticize those of use who spend the time to make it fit perfect. Also, the tiles were put in to level the floor so the fridge can roll in and out, and so the dishwasher will be at the same height, because many people install a dishwasher and cannot get it back out later due to uneven floor. You fail to spend the time, so there is no way your installations come out looking like this. Just another uninformed troll.
I've always done the uppers first. Everything in the video was excellent advice. You do you, but quality counts with me.
Sorry guys, this is a terribly expensive fugly flop. It looks so institutional. Like a prison. Who wants this in their house??? 🤮
They were looking for a very minimalist design, no loud complex cabinet doors, no loud granite counters, which this shaker cabinets afforded them and remember look what they had lived with for over 20 years and this gives them a lot more storage space which was important to them for their specific needs. I happen to think it looks very beautiful and graceful and grand especially the way the refrigerator is mounted and at the angle in the corner. But at the end of the day it all boils down to choice.
Uhh .. The Upper Handles on The Frig Doors Likely Prevent Doors From Open Enough Due To Collision With Countertop Or Cabinet Handles Preventing Doors Ftom Opening Enought To Pull Out Any Draws In Side Same ...

My Opinions From Main Starting Image Frig In Corner Pantry Keft Of Frig ...
Sorry I do not have the model of their refrigerator I just simply measured it before we started and it was exactly 36 inches across which is why we had to build out the enclosure 1/4 of an inch wider on both sides of the fridge, Because the cabinet on top of the fridge is exactly 36 inches wider so we made that slight gap on either side to allow the fridge to slide in and out of the enclosure.
